So on FB today and this ad cropped up - look familiar at all, wondering if anyone else has seen this??

Posted Image

Clicking the link takes you to this window - that appears to be an awfully bad yet similar rip off of the catapult in that small window.

Just saying.. ..not trying to promote, but seems like a rip off our much beloved franchise... ...that first image...

Wonder if PGI has heard of this or have any comments?

Wonder how many years it will take them to develop Community Warfare in that game? Maybe they should just skip straight to Transverse, fail it, realize their only revenue stream will be 'Mecha galaxy' and finally keep at least some of their promises.

Ahem. I sense potential conflict of rights should that get too far. (And fyi that first image is a literal copy of a timberwolf diagram. Seen it before many times.

Even if that poorly-knockoff-catapult is not an issue, that's legit old-school Timberwolf art in the ad, certainly enough to get the legal department rolling on it.

This needs to get signal boosted. Somebody tweet Russ, perhaps?

EDIT: Crap, got ninja'd!

A cease and desist order will fix it.

On the same note, it upsets me that this garbage exists while MW:LL got the axe
of course, this is fairly recent, so maybe I haven't given it the time

Looking through their "mech" selection... Seeing some familiar faces, a Catapult, a few that look like Dire Whales, a few that look like Stalkers, one that looks like a Nova, even a Locust one. Haven't seen any Urbies thankfully. Don't give em any ideas please guys. (The one mech underneath the facebook thing is pretty much a Nova.)

http://s722.photobuc...ml?t=1428294124

http://i722.photobuc...pg?t=1428294121

(For whatever reason these links are failing but looks like a Locust upper left corner second pic, Cyclops upper right, mid of second row looks like a Dire Whale/Warhawk, Catapult AND Stalker middle of third row, the Nova looking thing bottom right, and another Dire Whale there too. First pic middle of first is a high mounted hardpoint Dire Whale, Stalker second row, Blood Kite middle second row, looks like K2 and Nova bottom.)

Other then that top pic of the timberwolf, there is really nothing about that game that seems like its ripping off battletech except for the presence of mechs, which isn't something the makers of mechwarrior or battletech created. Does it look dumb, yeah. Does it mean anything, no. As long as they get rid of the timberwolf.

Theres clearly a Catapult and Nova, along with very similar looking mechs shown in the links I had earlier. That game makes me want to hurl in how similar it is. Too similar.

I disagree, the 'Mechs aren't that similar. I had a look through your links, and most look comparatively original for the mecha design field as it stands these days. Not as original (or radical, at least) as some of Hawken's designs, but certainly within the norm. The Catapult-like 'Mech (the Dread) isn't any more close that it is to a Mad Cat, or an Excelsior or Sovereign from Reaper Miniatures CAV tabletop game.

The Timber Wolf in the advert, though, is indeed dead-on, but that's not necessarily a thing the game devs have done themselves. Earlier, MWO inadvertently ripped off the art of well known BattleTech artist Shimmering Sword, because they had outsourced their advertising to a third party, and that party in turn figured it was perfectly fine to steal images wholesale from the internet.

I'm not saying it's a great game or anything, or even that they've spent a lot of time developing distinct and unique designs, but the designs to me look fair generic mecha, not purposeful rip-offs of the BattleTech franchise.

And even if they are ripoffs, who cares? PGI isn't exactly stunning the world with their rendition of battletech.

Maybe they have a toxic community that bought ad space to discredit their devs...

I spy a Fridge in the second picture. Well, kinda.

I dunno, feels way too similar to what we have right now. That Catapult looks dead on, and the Nova looking thing looks quite similar to the Nova Battletech has. The others maybe not too similar (like the 4 legged things and the other stuff I pointed out like the Locust looking thing), but you may be correct on the ads 3rd party issue (heard of such multiple times).

Still don't like the fact that multiple mechs there look too alike to Battletech.

Don't see it, if you are referring to Ice Ferret. The 3rd mech in the second row looks sorta like an actual fridge combined with a Warhawk/Whale. Can't see a Ferret though.

Bottom right, although it is reverse legs as opposed to humanoid, it has the distinct face.
