And mind you, I am not saying Mech types, like "Oh derp derp, Hunchbacks, Centurions, Atlases, Stormcrows and Direwolves".

But which 5 individual variants of those chassis.

For example, my 5 favorite, most played mechs in MWO:

1) HBK-4G (F) Hunchback
-It's my go-to, signature mech when serious off the reservation wrecking needs to happen. Looks great, moves nice and easy, is tough enough to take a hit, and hit back well above it's weight. Don't think I've ever broke 100 damage in it... but 5 kill matches are not uncommon. 8 is my record in it. Nothing fancy, jsut the plain jane ac20 (ammox4), 3xML and a 225std. Old school

2) CN9-D Centurion
- Has supplanted the Wang, mostly because the current HBK-4G just fits my AC20 needs and style better. Absolutely LOVE the balance of this mech. Tough as nails, tanky, at 107 it's decently fast, and it packs deceptive firepower with the 2xSRM4, 2xML and it's autoshotty LB-10X. Probably my most consistent mech, nothing flashy, just never seems to get a bad game, and seems like it needs 550+ dmg and 3 kills like it's on autopilot.

3) UM-R60 Urbanmech
- Oh my. The fun, the lolz..and shockingly...the effectiveness. Still new enough that the R63 or R60L might supplant it when the dust settles, but so far, despite have the lightest armament, my "Ghetto Deputy Dawg" (call him Southland...some of you will figure it out, lol) is by far my most effective. Who knew a LPL, ML and 4xMG could be so fun? He's decently agile, decently tanky, and deceptively strong. And what's more, beside the PNT-10K, the Urbie is the only Light I don't actually suck in.

4) HBK-4J Hunchback
-Inefficient, poorly optimized, slow and dependent on one of the weakest weapon systems in the game. Yet one of my highest avg damage mechs, and it just suits me. Sometimes it's fun to autovomit streams of LRMs (especially on Caustic), despite not having enough ammo, the back up weapons being too hot, and the mech being too slow, lol. Not a proponent of letting others aim for me, prefer to get where I can lase them with my own TAG, but I sure won't pass up a friendly lock or NARC. Out of over 100 mechs, I have....3? With LRMs, currently. This one narrowly nudge out my VND-1AA "Huntress" for the honors.

5) SMN-P Summoner Prime
-Let's be honest. It's....just... bad. But, it's my favorite Heavy in the game. Love the looks, love the mobility, love it's toughness..... hate the "almost there" feel to the firepower (and find the 4ERML and Gauss boring to run) and hoverjets. But it plays mostly like a Medium Mech, and Medium Mechs are what I excel in. Someday (in my fever dreams, lol) I'll almost be as good as Koreanese was. On an off day. Lol. Anyhow....always was my favorite Clan Mech, and Alex's iteration of it has grown on me.... and I even though I have to carry hard to do well in it(as opposed to the scores I get asleep at the wheel in my Timbys), it's the only Clan Mech I actually have FUN in. I run it either Bone Stock, or in my (I) version (yes I have 2) or as a Summoner-M knockoff (instead of the silliness of 2 tons of SSRM ammo, I add a second ton of LB-X).

So there you have it, my 5 Top 5 must have mechs, in MWO as of today. The HBK-4G is my favorite and best, the CN9-D my most consistent and the the Urbie, the most fun. But if I was going to get all but 5 mechs wiped from my account tomorrow, these are the 5 I would choose to keep. Even without the current quirks on the 4G and 9D, they'd stay, though I admit the 4J would be replaced by my VND-1AA in that case. (Just in case someone gets confused how I can reconcile my Quirk thread and liking quirked mechs in this one).

Such Meta, Much Comp, WOW! Right,

How about you?

I'll play.

#1 DWF Prime(I) Daishi
My favorite mech in all of the games. Bought the DWF's a la carte as my first MWO purchase...Was convinced that was all I was ever going to buy...wrong there.

#2 IFR C
I have had so much fun piloting this mech. In my top 3 as far as my personal stats go. Great for quickly punching assaults in the back.

#3 Orion Protector
Solid performing mech with some meaning to me.

#4 Spider 5D
Happens to be meta...happens to be fun.

#5 Mist Lynx B
IF you pull off any kind of a good match in this mech it feels good.

My top 5 in no particular order:

PIRATES' BANE

Or as I like to call her, how to be irritating 101, will she pull top damage, top kills? not a chance in hell, but will she be a P.I.T.A. to the OPFOR? Hell yes! and in the case of some mechs, a literal P.I.T.A.

YEN-LO-WANG

The amount of times, that this mech has let me snatch victory from defeat is amazing, also helps that she is in olive drab, to blend in noob CN9's helps, a lot.

DRG-1C

I finally got her back, after take a clan brake, and all I can say about her, is I missed this mech, nothing impressive, but she can hold her own, and be such a P.I.T.A., helps that I've gotten better at twisting, and aiming since I first ran this thing when I got started with MWO

AWS-8Q

Yes it's bad, but man, when you take down a Dire Wolf with this thing does it make it worth it!

BLR-3S

Yes, she is a little undergunned, but she's so fast, and doesn't fall over dead from ST loss, and that is enough to stun some people long enough for me to get in that last hit.

1. Atlas D. --> Fits multiple roles. From a good brawler to a medium range supporter. Heck, it's one of my best brawlers.
2. Atlas K. --> Love and played it from the beginning. Still one of the best variant to walk with the team. Engage LRM boaters, or try to sneak on the flanks with medium to long range capicity. Overall a good peforming mech and very underrated. It's a powerful mech in the right hands. Very unforgiving if it's not played right.
3. Atlas S. --> Does surpisingly well on all surfaces. Close medium to long range. Great overall peformer. But it's absolutely face wrecking on close range. I recently added another S to my collection.
4. Atlas DDC. --> Will tear you apart when unseen on the flank. Will tear you apart if unseen on your back. Will tear you apart when used as a spear formation.
5. Atlas RS or BH. Cant decide. But both interesting for divers setups.

The Atlas carry no meta, but it's a overall good chassis with the current meta if it's played right.

YLW was so close to making it.... if the that seed and ac20 still rock it. And it's the only mech I own on both of my accts.

I know I could drop a couple tons of ammo, and turn those MLs into MPLs, but I like the boom of the AC 20... and often I still run out of ammo for it...

I run out sometimes...but with 4 tons, it take some doing. You got a STD in there or something?

Did you really thought i own other mechs then the Atlas? ;)
As soon i read your thread i had to post!

I do play sometimes on my housemate's acc. If i would add another mech i would add the Jager S. It's surprisngly.. no.. monsterly good as a brawler. Yes, you read that right. A brawler Jagermech. Destroys any mech on the flanks.

300xl... I'm often left to do the squirrel hunting... and sometimes that AC20 fails to register...

Commando 1D: 171KPH SRM brawler from hell.
Posted Image
DW-S: The JJs for increased mobility are crazy good.
Posted Image
Trench Bucket 3C: 140 KPH light mech serial killer
Posted Image
Ice Ferret C: Clan version of the Treb 3C, but slightly faster, hotter, and harder hitting.
Posted Image
Cicada: Any variant with dual PPCs, an old go to mech that can still perform wonders when piloted properly.

I remember those Wangs or Hunchies. These are with their AC/20 real painmachines. Especially Wang with speed and the Hunchie with a higher mount.

Spider 5d - was one of my first mechs, still has the most seat-time of all of them. My top performing light, I love how it "ninjas".

Warhawk (any) with 4lpl - with the wub warhorn, makes me smile non-stop. Ridiculously effective chain-fired.

Yen-Lo-Wang- my first hero, I like the simplicity of the build.. a fast ac20 doesn't hurt :) paint it green/green and people don't know it's not a basic cent :D

dragonslayer - it's not what it was, but I bought a couple of them so I love the dang things. I miss the old agility and jumping :(

death's knell - I don't know why... but I like it oh so much. Always puts a smile on my face. Sometimes paint it blue with a ppc and play "megaman".

--------------

runner up - ac20 raven 4x - for a longtime it's been my "having a bad day" mech. No... it's not good... I know that - but it IS fun!

HBK-4G(F) -- (AC20, 3ML) I took this mech as my Elite Founders choice and was snickered at by better pilots in HHoD. That annoyed me so much that I buckled down to prove them wrong. I was one of the only guys in CB driving it and found the now famous build early on and I've not touched its config since then. Mine is called "lil mugger" because I've been known to mug kills in the streets of River City, I usually flank around buildings and catch the enemy buy surprise.

HBK-4J -- (2LRM10, 4ML, TAG, BAP) This is the only mech that's second to the HBK-4G. As an LRM machine there is no better mech. I kill everything with this guy. High mounted missile points, with an even higher energy point with TAG means I can peek a tiny bit over a hill and LRM stuff. The CPLT can't do that, Its got to expose its whole CT in order to get TAG going. The Treb can't do that, the Awesome can, sort of, the missile points are lower. Plus the 4J's cooldown quirks are amazing.

WVR-6R(P) - (2AC5, 3SSRM2, MPL) The AC5 quirks on this mech is insane. I've posted huge games with huge damage in this thing. Ignore this build at your peril.
Though this mech is in favor right now, I've got a soft spot for the SRM bombers: WVR-7K, GRF-3M, GRF-2N -- but that's too new, I'm not done eliting it, then I'll pass judgement on it. So really any of those mechs could be here.

CN9-AH(L) -- (AC20, 3SRM4) Like the HBK-4G but more ammo dependent. This thing appearing before the enemy always intimidates. Players will duel it, but after that moment of "oh hell.." you can visibly see them go through.

RVN-Huggin -- (4SRM4, 4MG) The knife fighter, the back stabber, the kill stealer. I call mine "Loki". I work hard to "lie" to the enemy about where I'm at and what I'm doing then I pounce for back shots and use those MGs for crit seeking open mechs. I'm the annoying bugger zooming around in the brawl with drive by SRMs.

After that I get into heavies. The Protector deserves an honorable mention. I have great luck in that mech, though its a bit sluggish.

1- Stalker -Misery
Fits like a glove.

2- Dire Wolf
Slow, but it has so many possible configs it would probably be my choice if I could only have one.

3- Warhawk
Should be my number one, it's my favorite robot. but it's gargantuan size makes it kind of frustrating to play.

4- Atlas-D(F) or Boar's Head
Classics

5- [reserved for Blood Asp]

1. banshee 3e. i was slow to warm up to this one. it wasnt until after i got over my 'put xl engines in everything' phase and put an std 300 in it that i really learned to like this mech. now its got 3 ac5s (8t ammo!), an erll and 3mpls and is my best cw assault. this would be the bansh 3m if it still had lpl quirks, but it has fallen into disuse because of its newfound heat problems.

2. grf 3m. a pair of erll for jump snipe and 4xsrm4 for brawlin. xl265 engine and 3jj for mobility. another cw beast.

3. ctf im. its my go to mech when i need damage and i need it now. simply carrying 3 ac10s (5.5t ammo), and a small laser, running on an xl280. it has no endurance, but its hella fun while it lasts. a great pugmatch build.

4. timby, all varients. ive never met a twolf i didnt like. its got that mix of speed and brutality that i like. i like non-lrm builds. usually a mix of laser and ballistic.

5. hellby prime (or whatever, varients dont matter for clans because omnipods). i currently have mine running dual gauss, ecm, and a head mounted small laser. its what happens when you give a ninja akimbo sniper rifles.

these are my usual go to mechs for events. though i dont play them as much as id like. im usually leveling new stuff trying to find new builds that stand out as effective (and more importantly, fun).

I have a lot of mechs I love, but the CDA-2B is alone at the top. My original favorite chassis and my all-time favorite gun come together at last.

Clan mechs must derp, because really the CT just doesn't matter, even in the cases where it actually is different.

Direwolf. When I'm going Assault, I go all the way. 2 gauss, 4 erml, and Something Else (what varies)

Warhawk. 2LPL. 3ERML. Lurms.

Urbanmech. Doesn't matter which one, I use the same build on all three swapping ML's for MG's alongside the LPL.

YLW/HBK4G can't decide, they're different but same concept.

After this, it gets very hard to choose. Very hard.
