For little mechs like the Commando, a good way to give them "more tonnage" without literally giving them Ghost Tonnage would be to integrate all 10 base heatsinks into the engine. This means you'd no longer have to spend 9-12 critical slots on external heatsinks, which would let you equip FF armor (in addition to Endo) for some minor weight savings.

The improved cooling of 2.0 engine Trudubs over 1.4 Poordubs would also in way give you "free heatsinks" (well, more like the heatsinks that every other mech gets to enjoy) due to that higher efficiency.

I don't think that'll work in a sense. If that were to be implemented in the game, it would kinda break stock builds (mechs suddenly become overweight). You "could" release them as a buyable option in the mechlab (PGI moneysink) or "upgrade" (another moneysink route) for the chassis to "upgrade" the engine (not upgraded by default), but it makes more sense if implemented as the "reverse" 25-engine heatsink upgrades (like 275+ engines get additional HS space, sub-225 engines would get additional HS space for every 25-engine levels).

I'd rather not have a moneysink (and my solution with HS space in the sub-225 engines would get them automatically-free of charge), but it would solve the problem as currently constituted. We can't really do the change "as is" outright because of the stock-TT construction rules...

Weapon quirks can also be used as a more indirect form of "Ghost Tonnage." For example, you could give Commandos a massively tighter missile spread quirk, which would essentially give Commies access to weightless/slotless free Artemis.

That route seems alright... especially when the Commandos need some help.

Literally giving some mechs "extra tonnage" out of completely nowhere is something that even Space Magic has a hard time with. Weapon/armor quirks at least have some reasoning behind them. If we're really worried about mechs like the Owens and Strider, I'd honestly just want to have PGI create their own non-canon "Mk II" versions that have somewhat more min-maxed base chassis (i.e. XL for the Strider, remove CASE from Strider, DHS for both of them, etc.).

"Space Magic" will get some people crazy for the mechs the OP wants "adjusted". It would be extraordinarily problematic...

Stock weight wouldn't be effected. The heatsinks would just be shoved into the engine instead of being on the outside.

But wouldn't that break stock loadouts?

If the heatsinks (usually single) were supposed to be external anyways, then it would "break" the stock loadout.

Take the Commando-2D for instance:

Quote

Heat Sinks: 10 - Single (6 in engine) 0.00
Heat Sink Locations: 2 LT, 2 RT

I'm just saying... PGI would have to "fix" all sub-250 stock builds. That would be a PITA.

Somebody would have to be a complete, unrelenting tightass to fuss over a sink getting moved to a different spot on a stock build. Also, Hellbringer Prime...

Just close this thread man, it's a bad idea that needs to be killed NOW.

I don't care if I've spent close to $500 supporting this game. If these ideas followed through, I would delete MWO from my desktop and perma-block this website from my web browser. I would go THAT FAR.
