I think this is good, even pro players have lives to lead, and now a dedicated casual can win it all if they're persistent.

That's not the point. This is not t-ball. This is not 5 year old soccer league. Not everyone should be the winner and get the big trophies. Sure we can all get some cool participant "ribbons" or "most Improved" reward, but not everyone should be able to easily get the Edge goal "MVP" plaque. That's why its the edge. Edges cases are not common. Usually in the less then 1% area. now we are making the edge something anyone can get basically.

I'm not going to get it either way, as I don't have time. I'm just tired of the "Easy button".

I have been debating whether I should chime in with my opinion or not. I decided I would.

As a long time gamer in general it seems like PGI is following in the MMO style. What I mean by that is they are rewarding the grind. In MMO’s I always felt like I was behind because I could not play enough. Rightfully so those that invested more time had better stuff. By the time I got that stuff new and better gear was out. In the end I stopped playing those games because I felt like I was wasting my time and not having fun always being behind the curve.

There are several major differences between those grind games and what PGI is doing with MWO in my opinion. One is they actually give the casual (all) players a chance to win free stuff! Another is the fact that they sell you the gear, mostly so they can make money, but I happen to like that. Lastly the challenges are also all very different with some being easier than others. I find it funny that for the easy events the elite players complain that everyone gets the rewards and in the hard ones the casual player complains because they know they will struggle to achieve the rewards. In life not all participants get the trophy. Only the winners do!

My guess is that is as intended. PGI could easily just cater to the players that spend more time playing. But they don’t, which is good! They still think about the little guy and have easy challenges. So should I complain if they have a hard one? No, they are rewarding those who invest the time. No one should think casual players, such as me who may play three to five hours a week, should be able to achieve all the same rewards as someone who plays 20 or more hours a week. Those who invest more time should definitely be able to achieve more rewards. That said, before they extended the time frame of this event I think it would have been almost impossible for even the elite players to get to 50.

All my thinking has made me wonder why PGI would even have those easy events? I think the answer is they want the casual player to be happy and keep coming back. My guess is the casual player probably even spends more money on the game. I know I have spent several hundred dollars on this game over the past year. No, not pay to win as many of you are probably thinking. Let’s face it an average at best causal player is not paying to win no matter how much money they spend. I purchase mechs to get free premium time, free mechbays, and to prevent myself from having to grind CBills with mechs I don’t want to play. It’s all about saving time! If I had more time to play I probably would do everything with in-game CBills (aside from mechbays of course).

Does this event cater to the elite player? Heck ya it does, and that is true even with the extension. Does that mean I will not play in the event? It does not; I will be dropping at least a few hours this weekend. Do I plan on achieving any rewards as a PUG? Nope, even with the extension I doubt I will get one qualifying match based on my PUG experiences in CW, but I am going to have fun anyway. One reason is I know that PGI will eventually have another challenge of some type that I can achieve the rewards. Just not a CW event, I do not think I will ever achieve any rewards in a CW event because I PUG almost exclusively. But I will compete in as many as I can! Why? Because I love the BattleTech Universe! Rewards; who cares, I just can’t wait to participate in a battle I have read in the books at least ten times!

PGI hasn't posted how match score is calculated outside of one developer post that showed it was 10 points of damage=1 point and couple other ones.
CN: get 800 damage and make it unless you have a TK.

Someone has taken the time to figure out a few more, but this list is still incomplete, rewards 2.0 have increased the match scores and things like well placed UAVs can generate a lot of extra points.
http://mwomercs.com/...63-match-score/

Thanks for that. I know I remember seeing what things would comprise the score in the past, but couldn't recall for the life of me what those values were.

Are the prizes going to be extended as well since we now have twice as long to fight for them?

Thank you very much!

But, I warn you! If in the future, you further listen to the players requests and make such a decision not after, but BEFORE even the starting the event... You will have to buy some new servers! :P

Really.. Those extra days, make this event to category "just very hard", but not "impossible", for the casual players too..

Again... Thank You!

There is no "easy button" here. Anybody who wants the rewards still has to put in just as much time in order to get them. They just now happen to have the option to do so over a realistic number of days. Get the sand out of your va-jay-jay, because this is extension is 100% a GOOD thing with no negatives whatsoever.

Thanks for extending it...I was thinking it was gonna be a major grind this weekend. ;)
I'm looking forward to getting that BNC-3M(C). I need 2 more Banshees to start leveling them up, so this can be one of those. Plus this mech costs MC to buy and the WHK-C can be purchased with C-bills later.

And something for the old farts who play this:

And for the grinders:

"Edge Case Rewards" should be a plaque or e-peen enhancer, not a mech. Lower level rewards should be a mech.

Is there a dislike button?

I think we can assume that there is no reason for such huge requirements. Only about a fifth of the comments on the big requirement supports it. All others are against.

Huge requirements? Supports it? For free stuff? Really? You are against free stuff? You do realize this is to get people to play CW. Often. Relentlessly by some. If everybody got easy rewards, the numbers would drop. It's not about YOU!

AWESOME!

Thanks for the reaction. I like to play MWO heavily during those challenges, but 3 day/40 matches+waiting time were kinda extreme.

Challenge accepted!

edit: But which side to pick? IS means more mech variety (and heroes) for me, while Clan is more comfortable when it gets tough.

So I was in the Bog the other day. Where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda. When I saw this little runt sitting there on a log. We got talking and I told him I would try and win the mech in this event, and he got all preachy and told me....

Shoulda hopped back in my blue Urban Mech and squashed him.
