I have a Thrustmaster Topgun Afterburner Pro. It was all right, the problem with joysticks is its really difficult to get them set right for shooting, torso twisting, and moving at the same time while still being able to hit anything. Switching into reverse really got me because it required a button press, because the throttle couldn't be adjusted for mid-setting stop.
I ended up snapping the plastic pegs holding the joystick to the base while playing MW2: Mercs. I fixed them with modeling glue and used a postage stamp to re-attach the Y axis sensor. The problem I have is that these things are too flimsy, I need something made out of steel. So I'll try keyboard and mouse first.

Throttle on the logitech wingman I had had a zero spot somewhere in between so could go forward or reverse and no hitting a button to switch direction.

only got to page six so i appologise if this has been answerd

on low income atm so really cant afford to slpash out so need a cheap stick/throtle combo........ however i like the torso twist pedal idea dont think i could afford a new set but would there be a way to use two xbox rockband pedals with an adapter and some software to do the job? even in a limited way as i already have those lying around was thinking hold for left/right then use a throttle/joystick button for centre.

Edit: do not have the knowledge to do much more than plug and play on this cant program and wire for toffee

I will try to use the Thrustmaster T.16000M. If it does not work well for me, then I will use keyboard and mouse.

Left hand: Mouse. This aims. All weapon groups are bound to buttons. I will probably put some targeting/command buttons on here.

Right hand: Joystick. X axis is steering, y axis is throttle (preferably its position should act as the throttle setting rather than pushing it forward/back to increase/decrease the throttle setting, as MW4/MWLL work by default). Everything maneuvering and subsystem-related goes here - jump jets, crouching, etc. given the limited mouse space, I will likely bind zoom to a button here. (I imagine all of my interface stuff will go here, really.)

My mouse is a Razer Lachesis. I highly recommend this thing. Be careful with the updating (and it only has Windows drivers) but it's light, high-precision, ergonomic for people with big hands and has an amazing number of buttons. It also has macro functionality, which is always nice.

My joystick is a Saitek Cyborg X. It's one from 2009 or so. This does /not/ come recommended. The stick is chintzy plastic that flexes like crazy before motivating the joystick to actually tilt and provide input; one of the face buttons broke off at the flex-based "hinge" after a year of sporadic use; aggressively pushing the stick forward easily tilts the rear off the table. I picked it primarily for the surplus of buttons at a low proce point; if you want an especially precise or durable joystick at a low price point, you'll be disappointed.

I found a Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS X flight stick on amazon for $50 and free shipping, its excellent for everything roughly simulator-ish.

HOTAS, an abbreviation for Hands On Throttle-And-Stick

Hi, total n00b here, aside from having played MW2(Core, GBL, Mercs), MW3(Core) and several pen and paper games.

This idea struck me a few years ago, that a large walking vehicle should likely be controlled relatively similarly to a modern tank or aircraft in the use of a pedal rudder system, particularly if an extensive environment modelling scheme were used for the machine to automatically "right" itself in broken/uneven terrain, and led me to building a couple of mock-ups from scrap bits from the hangar I used to work at.

No, I wasn't fired, I was honorably discharged. :rolleyes:

About the only major issues that I can see, outside of feasibility of design (Where would one find potentiometers of the size and durability depicted, comes to mind rather prominently) is that like with Honest Real Vehicles such as large helicopters, it requires some degree of endurance on the operator's part. This doesn't bother me, personally, since if it works out here, I might be inclined to try it in a few other applications.

Anyway, on to the point;
I'm looking for feedback as to whether the pedal assembly below sounds like a reasonable setup from an input standpoint, and for technical advice on the matter(Scrounged or Custom components, et al).

A functionally standard flight rudder pedals setup w/ toebrakes(For turning and jumpjets) WITH;

A slider assembly which the pedals are mounted on for THROTTLE.
A twist/tilt assembly as part of the slider assembly to torso twist.

Usage Scheme; Use the balls of your feet to depress the pedals, heels to tilt the entire footboard, stirrups to pull the whole shebang; Spring-loaded to reset to neutral throttle, neutral rudder, neutral twist.

Essentially, everything to do with movement being in the feet, leaving the stick free for directing the weapons.

Oh, and what I'm doing with my left hand?

Hah, yeah...I'll probably use a PC-oriented keypad for the left hand.
Right now, the Warthog is looking like a good right hander, and I've been doing a price check on the potentiometers that I'll be needing for this.

So far the Gamester has been good and frustrating.

MY Z axis is fast so I have a hard time targeting..

The keyboard commands of MWLL and getting into the Mech make it a PIA

MWLL Controls for joy/gamepad etc.. are frustrating..

Then there is the Elemental operates one way, VTOL another, Tank another and Mech another.. Which is also REALLY a PIA when setting up a controller.

SO I am thinking the Razer maybe the way I go.. Just waiting for the Beta to see if I can get the gamester setup that way, and may just use it. Although thinking of combining it with a TrackIR for body control.

So, I'm looking at the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X, and I was wondering if I could Torso Twist, and Turn, without using peddles? I'm on a rollie chair, and I know that can be a pain.
If I extend my budget out to $75, are there any good alternatives, including any refurbished stuff?
Also, could someone please explain the Axis, I'm assuming the Z-Axis is twisting, but is rocking side-to-side X, or Y?
