I think the laser armed mechs are inevitable at this point. We're starting to run out of mech designs, and as others have mentioned there are bound to be overlapping designs now.

I mean compare the Guillotine to the Grasshopper. The only significant difference is where the missile hardpoint is.

Still, I would advocate that the next IS "light" be the 40 ton medium Assassin. We need another speedy 40 ton mech to compete with the Cicada.

Pack would've been a knockout, with the Assassin in place of the Crab.

Speedy, extremely jumpy, 40 ton SRM brawler would've been up my alley.

If only they could give us an ECM black knight, something to challenge the HBR with.

Absolutely love the art so far. Mauler is broad and I'm not against it, because I drive my Pretty Baby to death, but I think it is a huge factor on whether people will buy it or not.

People bought Mr. Gargles.

Hardpoints on the Wolfhound is a tad bit underwhelming as I was expecting hardpoints to be inflated by an additional 1 or 2, though it'll be interesting to see the WLF-1 be the fastest IS 35 tonner, with the engine cap of 315.

The Mauler also marks the first mech that has 2 PGI custom variant to the chassis.

Everything looks funky. The Mauler had all the iconic maul taken out of it. But I don't want more 'mechs, I want a fixed game and lots of new maps plus game modes.

For the first time ever I am completely and utterly underwhelmed by a mech pack. In fact I'm not just underwhelmed but I find myself asking the question "What is the point?".

There isn't anything in that pack that offers me something that I don't already have. The lead time is also ridiculous which tells me PGI's need for the income from these packs and the development time needed is really starting to bite.

Zombie mechs have never had any major use in the game anyway due to manual pinpoint aiming and low TTK. They're even more pointless now that aimbot use has become more prolific.

I've bought every pack bar a founders one. This is where I have to bow out simply because it's a complete waste of $80. I would get more usage and satisfaction from wiping my arse with $80 worth of paper money.

thats going to start happening. Wer just getting more and more mechs, its no suprise when some become redudnant

Yep. When I saw the BK artwork I actually thought it was the Grasshopper used by mistake and the Panther was used as placeholder for the Wolfhound.

I know it was bound to happen eventually. I really think the problem is that PGI spent so many resources on balancing the base game and implementing PaulWarrior that they now have nothing left to make genuine strides forwards and fixing the mistakes he's left.

But you know I did warn about these things as well as the direction Paul was taking the game. I have a fair amount of experience in game balancing and multiplayer implementation but sadly my posts can be quite "toxic" in nature. I have played and supported enough niche games and very well predicted their downfall yet each time I'm ignored as simply a rager or as someone who is just a noob.

I'm sick of saying I told you so, I really am.

I'm curious to see when new IS weaponry gets added it might be only those new mechs will have quirks to make those new weapons more effective.

I mean would you put a snub nosed PPC on a Thunderbolt-9S that has really huge quirks for the ER-PPC?

They're never gonna add new guns to the game.

The Wolfhound is probably not going to be able to compete with the Firestarter. Lack of jump jets mostly.

The Crab is a really cool looking mech with very boring variants. This would have been a good time to create some new variants. One variant does have jump jets, so that gives it something over the Hunchback.

Black Knight: Please, for the love of Kerensky, put the torso lasers higher. Like right below that collar bone shaped ridge. Otherwise this thing is going to see about as much action as the Orion. Optional: give one of them ECM.

Mauler: I like it. Would have been more impressive before the King Crab, but should have some interesting ballistic options. Nothing really game changing now, though.

Overall, I like the pack. However, I think you can safely ignore it unless something with Black Knight changes.

Wolfhound: I'm hoping for some serious pulse laser quirks. Other than that, I don't see it doing very well compared to its competitors, unless PGI does some reworking of core mechanics. Koniving's armor proposal would make the Wolfhound (and Panther, for that matter) really come into its own.

Crab: Looks great. This is my favorite mech from the pack. I just wish they'd held off and done a ComGuard Tukayyid Pack and used the Crab as the Medium.

Black Knight. I love the look, especially the knightly helmet and gorget. The thing looks super beefy. As for its capabilities, it's a 75-ton mech, so it has that going for it, but no JJs, no ECM, and nothing but energy makes it a bit of a weak choice. I'm still tempted, but we'll see.

Mauler. I hate this mech in principle, but at least Alex made it less stupid looking. The hardpoints should be great, enough so that I'm very much tempted to go all-in for this pack.

Really, if I could substitute a Javelin or a Mongoose or something for the Wolfhound, I'd get this pack without reservations. The Wolfhound makes me leary, though, and the Black Knight would be better served being replaced by some other option. A Penetrator would offer a more interesting profile, or an Exterminator would give a lot more variety in loadouts.

I am getting the Mauler package because I am a man of my word and I said I would get it if the Wolfhound was a part of the package. That said the brick head makes me want to cry.

I am pretty disappointed, The art for the new mechs is janky, the wolfhound lacks ears.

the Crab looks like the one from sarna, all lopsided and jank instead of the sleek machine from MW4 (plus no ECM even though with its advanced computing systems it is a good candidate for ECM)

The Black knight looks nice, but the hard points are badly placed, and its just another energy boat.

and the mauler looks like it will have **** hit-boxes.

oh and its pretty much just more energy boats all round, witch is old hat by now.

Yeah seems that way - PGI isn't capable of balancing them.

Calling it now. Grinner will have unique geometry and it will be the ears.

That would mean they failed - should of went with that system though. That game lasted for years.

I'm very disappointed in the Black Knight. It's the only mech I was looking forward to, and I was hoping the IS would finally get an ECM-capable heavy mech to contend with clan superiority.

...oh well...

But if they gave the regular Black Knight variants ECM, how would they convince players to pay for the ECM equipped Hero variant?

That's going to be the last straw if that ever happens.

The only reason noone really whines about the Pirate's Bane, is because it is a Locust Lolcust. Nothing more.
