Calling it now. Grinner will have unique geometry and it will be the ears.

Except Grinner was noted for being a stock WLF-1 when it was first destroyed. Dan Allard's Wolfhound on the other hand is a bit of a mystery.

The fact that Resistance II makes Resistance I look like money well spent is basically all that one needs to know about the mechs.

I don't believe it would be the first time they made a hero mech out of someone's mech that was stock except for the name and pait job.

Black Knight is the best looking humanoid heavy in my opinion, at least by the art.

I like the Mauler, it was always one of my favs...

but I'm a heavy pilot at heart and I really can't justify another laserboat after the Grasshopper. BAsically the Black knight is the same thing minus the JJs....

so.. I'll wait for the next IS package.

Hopefully featuring the RAKSHASA which is a sure win for PGI as far as my $$ are concerned

It actually would be. Both Pirate's Bane and The Gray Death were not well documented and in fact Pirate's Bane had been destroyed by this point in the timeline and Lori Carlyle was piloting The Gray Death (renamed Boss Lady). Basically, they are knock offs of 'Mechs which may or may not have been stock. Grinner's only notable feature compared to even other Kell Hound WLF-1s was the special muzzle paint job with metallic strips as part of the grinning wolf's head that would appear on both thermal and magres scans of the 'Mech. Everything else was very stock.

Unfortunately PGI doesn't give us the quirks until too late in development, but right now the quirks are the only thing that could make this package worth buying. We learned our lesson from the Grasshopper.

Looks like crap. Too faction/Comstar specific.

Where are the great classics of the succession wars?

Dervish (symmetrical mixed builds with good jump)
Clint
Assassin (much needed)
Hermes II
Javelin (much needed 30 ton missile boat)
Vulcan
Whitworth (lighter hunchback 4sp/4j with jump)
Cyclops
Charger (does have some interesting variants)

my opinion

if you buy this package, MW:O will never improve as it will show the devs that the players are dumb and do not demand a better gameplay experience over Laser Vomit.

I'm pretty underwhelmed by this. I really don't care for the proposed art either. Nothing has that "ooh ahh" feel that the Shadow-cat, Cauldron-Born, or Panther gave me.

#1- Wolfhound with no wolfy-head-features. Too far from canon.
#2- Crab has too little style. Bland.
#3- Black Knight... everything. Low hard points (on concept art). Again lack of that "wow" factor in the art direction.
#4- Head lasers... useless on the GH so far, probably one slot on these too. At least give room for 2-slot-sized energy weps.
#5- yet again, hardly a double heat sink, ferro etc... only a couple XL's. I would like to see the "exclusive" mechs at least come totally kitted out with all the upgrades.

I do like the Mauler's inclusion, and the look too it. Feels like the Mauler should IMO. Wolfhound looks like fun to drive, a better platform than the Panther with similar size, and likely play style. If you like energy, 1-3 are the mechs for you.

Oh, I wouldn't be so surprised at all if Grinner had unique geometry. So far all hero mechs are notable for NOT being stock in any way, and Grinner is the only Wolfhound with a famous pilot and name that I can think of. In fact I don't even need to look up anything to name the pilot of Grinner, Phaelen Kell.

Coming from someone who only bought a founder's package, I wonder if this pack is good for new players? Personally, I like the way the BK looks, but looking at the hardpoints on these mechs the only thing I can think is "oh god, more lazer vomit." I didn't immediately consider that the Firestarter could outclass the Wolfhound and the Grasshopper could do the same to the BK. Which leaves just the Crab and the Mauler to be useful, and from the commentary it sounds like the Crab might be the only grace this thing has at all.

But I wonder, would this be a decent starting point for new players, or would most people tell a newbie "nah, just go back to Resistance I."

To be honest, I don't understand why the IS packs are 10$ cheaper per backer level than the Clan ones, or why the clan mechs cost so much more C-bills/MC than IS. I actually just had a conversation about the fact that a friggin Uller costs as much as an Awesome with my brother, and the only conclusion I came to was that PGI is greedy for as much money as they can milk, and after the $500 golden madcat packages sold out, they realized clan players are willing to shovel out cash.

So, I bowed out on resistance I because the Zeus was the only mech I like, but I might have to get the Black Knight tier of this pack because I love all three of those mechs. The mauler does have the big missile pods but hopefully those will shrink without anything equipped.

My current disappointment with the Resistance II is that there is currently nothing cute written on the preview skins for the mechs. That's always been one of my favorite parts of the other recent packs.

As for hero speculation, Grinner would be an interesting hero mech, especially if you could run it as the pre-capture version or post-upgrade.

I think you will be able to say this about most new mech packs. PGI is close to jumping the shark here. How many combinations of M/E/B can you do and make a different mech than the 75+ we already have?? With mechs being their sole revenue source, the future is not bright.

Prepare to be surprised.

They're never gonna add new guns to the game.

Don't be so sure. I think they will. One such way is to introduce "new" slot types. Advanced E, Advanced B, Advanced M which take the later era weapons (both Clan will have this and IS of course). Only later era mechs (or variants) can equip them so they can make initial early adopter offerings for these new toys. Advanced slots could say allow the use of older weapons or new weapons but the older slots can't take newer ones. This also gets around the issue of balance as you don't change the dynamic of existing mechs. This is can basically be done like the clan introduction was. I see money signs all over at least until they run out of tech upgrades in the long timeline.

I noticed that mauler becomes available on Sep 15th for the pack owners... yet the cbill version becomes available in February as the last chassis of this pack.

PGI, i think you are over-playing that card a little bit. You know that everyone only cares about the mauler. 6 months is way too much distance.

this is exceedingly untrue. both the locust and the shadow hawk were stock as long as they were in use by any notable pilots, with "boss lady" being mostly mothballed until near the end of it's use and having target tracking issues due to the joints being out of use for so long. neither of them recived any modifacation between the times they were obtained in the original book, and the their last appearances in fiction.

I almost pulled the trigger yesterday when I saw the Mauler. Been waiting for this Mech since 2012 beta testing. My decision changed immediately when I saw rest. Honestly cannot tell the difference between them, just lasers in different slot configuration. Seriously no ECM on any IS mechs? I play mainly with Stalkers, Hunchbacks, Ravens, Catapults and some Awesome previously. Tired of laser boating, LRMs and using light balistics.

I quickly logged into my computer after being out late (phone couldn't display store page properly) to see the full run down of the new mechs after seeing the day one promo. Not too impressed.

My impressions:
  • I don't care about the Jagermech champ.
  • Last time I bought the $80 Resistance pack day 1 it came back to bite me. I bought it TOO EARLY to qualify for a 2nd set of Loyalty mechs.
  • Quirks will not necessarily save bad variants. Resistance 1 still has bad mechs with underwhelming quirks.
  • If the Black Knight had ECM I would buy in a heart beat.
  • I still haven't fully leveled the Zeus (another highly anticipated mech - more-so than the Mauler for me. They just kind of suck.)

Wow so many energy.

Much wub

So pewpew

Seriously though, Res II looks about as appealing to me as Res I, which is basically nothing. Once Wave III hits, I probably won't be getting very many (if any) new mechs for awhile as I've already got just about all the mechs I want and will just use my 720 hours of banked prem time to save up $$$ to outfit all my mechs with modules.

My thoughts on Resistance 2: Instant purchase as soon as I got home from work.

I see a lot of potential fun with these mechs regardless of where the traits fall. Don't care if they're "best" or "mediocre", I can make them work to my playstyle.
