As for aesthetics.... Ugh, the NX-01 is not a pretty ship. She's an Akira with inverted and retro-ized nacelles.

I FORGIVE your blasphemy!

The Akira is hands down one of the prettiest ships out there (not to mention completely BA), so if Enterprise is nothing but an Akira with retro nacelles, so much the better!

The NX class is a gorgeous ship :)

Posted Image

She's also one of the toughest ships of her technological era.

This is the ship that went one on four against an enemy squadron, and after being carved up for several straight minutes, having the roof cave in on the bridge, 80% of her systems go down, and hull breaches on almost EVERY SINGLE DECK, she STILL defiantly spat out a torpedo and split one of the enemy ships in half!

Like the E-C almost exactly 190 years later, she not only survived the encounter, but was operational a short time later (and engaged in two further major battles without proper repairs, hull fractures and all!).

Aside from being an early M/AM design, that ship is a beast (though a larger ME ship would probably still win, handily, on size, since the tech does seem comparable).

I know this is the most ridiculous comparison to a starship ever, but does anybody see the similarity between the above picture and this?

Look where the saucer and the arms connect, and then look behind the propellers.

Oh, yes, the P-38 was an inspiration for the Akira class.

No, this is a pretty starship:

You don't get much more sleek than a Sovereign class.

Though the New Orleans has its own beauty, as you can see here, despite being blasted all to hell:

And then there's the other of my three #1 favorites (yes, they're all tied), the Steamrunner. Like a bulldog, nobody will call her pretty, but also like a bulldog, she has her own attraction:

Eve online, hands down.

It also isn't as retarded as SW and ST but neither is as realistic as BT and BSG.

Comparing which fictional universe is stronger is just stupid. They are fictional, the writers can make their characters, super heroes, and weapons as powerful as they want. I could invent some fictional universe where regular foot soldiers shoot deathstar rays out of their *****, have unstopable personal force fields, can fly faste rthan light and teleport themselves, travil through time and resurrect themselves after death?!??!?!

Coming into a thread dedicated to comparing sci-fi franchises to say that comparing sci-fi franchises is stupid is... well, rather a silly and pointless waste of time, don't you think? If you think it's silly and pointless to compare sci-fi franchises like we have been doing, well, then, just move right along and find another thread to post in. If you want to stick around and post, then please post something that contributes to the general discussion at hand. Thank you.

Hmmm...
For the Trekkers/Trekkies: is there enough canon material available to reasonably debate a conflict between the Federation (circa the 24th+ centuries; we know they had timeships like the USS Relativity by the 26th century...) and the Time Lords (prior to the Last Great Time War; say, the Fifth-Seventh Doctors' eras)? :P

So... what is that? ;)

Also, are we considering any power from the listed franchises?
If so... I would posit that the Forerunners from Halo (prior to activating their Halo Array) could take down anyone currently listed on the poll who isn't already god-like (e.g. the Q and the Douwd, the Eternals and other transcendental beings, the Celestial Avatars and the Spirit of the Abyss, the Chaos Gods and their daemons, and so on) or time-active (e.g. 24th+ century Federation, the Time Lords, and so on).

Your thoughts?

I dunno... We really don't know much about them and their capabilities at all.... Personally, I prefer to just leave timetravel well alone, all it results in is confusion and headaches...

I would say that the Forerunners would definitely be able to compare to any top species, at the least. Just off-hand, I'd probably peg them as roughly comparable to the pre-Wraith Alterans.

Powerful or not, I've always liked the Covenant ships from Halo. They have a nice otherworldly, alien, predatory look to them.

Cruiser

And the Supercarrier dwarfs all but the largest ships in scifi

And the tiny 935 meter Covenant Corvette

Some of the human ships are pretty nice thought much smaller

Destroyer

heavy frigate

light frigate

and the ancient Halcyon cruiser (modified)

and the modern Marathon cruiser

How can you forget the Prowler?

Halo has awesome ships, on both sides, and they certainly don't lack for size. I also like how the get rid of planets. Rather then some ridiculous super weapon, they just glass it with plasma until the oceans are gone and the land is superheated plasma.

Fortunately for the UNSC, Covenant attitutes on technology (and pretty much everything in general) preclude the sort of attitudes that would allow them to really exploit the sort of power they could be getting out of those vessels.

They are definitely pretty though :D

P-38's are my favorite WWII fighter. It was the most expensive prop powered fighter aircraft of WWII, and the only US fighter to be in production all the way from the begining of the war till the end. Also, it would defeat the Enterprise AND the Deathstar because it is real...

My father is named after the WWII fighter ace Robin Olds, (who flew P-38's, among others) because my grand dad knew Olds while he was in the Army Air Core.

Advent drives your crew to insanity

A shame the Lightning II is sort of... homely. And its a taxpayers nightmare.

Although it apparently is pioneering 30 different things at once, so that's nice.
