DOD retirement times are 15, 20 and 30. So it could be 11 depending how you look at it.

Canadian Military in CFB Gagetown, NewBrunswick. I was an armored trooper for almost 10 years (tanks and recce/recon), but changed trades to Materials Technician. Welding/fabricating/metal work, autobody, textiles, basic carpentry, machining, and minor lifesaving devices (gasmasks, floatation devices, firepacks etc); and have been doing that for 10 years now. Most of my friends list is also current or retired CDN military and will make the core of our merc unit ;) Cheers to all of our current or retired service personnel!!

I am an actuary working on asset and liability management: I advise my employer on how to invest the money you pay in life insurance premiums to ensure they have enough to pay you back when your policy matures or (sadly) you make a claim. I also try to make my employer make as great a profit as possible with those investments regardless of market conditions.

In a previous life I was also a fencing teacher.

Ummm ... you didn't read the full thread did you. No offense to anyone but Chef, Software Engineer, and Student hardly fit my idea of "tough guy" status (then again, I know a few in each group that would kick my @$$). My job doesn't fit into that group either.

Read before you post and go troll elsewhere.

Hmmm, a little quick to take offense, aren't we? I don't believe I said anywhere that everyone was in such jobs, or claiming, just that I was "impressed" by the very high ratio of these jobs, since my personal experience at conventions, comic book stores, and other such Gamers mecca tend to show about 7 people working menial jobs living with mom to every professional degree, or soldier. (yes, I exaggerate, though the degree of hyperbole is not great.) But then again, I am also well versed in the manner in which many, many individuals feel the need to... shall we say, "embellish" reality on the Internet? And in general, gamers with that surfeit of imagination, more-so than others.

So maybe it's you who needs reading comprehension skill before jumping to conclusions, or maybe need to troll elsewhere? No? OK then.

So take a deep breath there red-rider. Especially since I didn't see anyone appoint you the new sheriff in town.

I work in development at a tile factory. It's my job to make sure that when we feed a product into the kiln it's going to come out looking like it's supposed to. It also takes 70 minutes to find out if you're wrong.

I fire howitzers for a living. In my line of work, it takes about 30 seconds to find out if you're wrong...
