Currently working for my dad in a plumbing and heating/sheetmetal shop. Ah, the joys of being 17 years old. :)

What branch are you in? I plan to join the RCAF as a pilot sometime down the road if I can pass my courses. Can you confirm if the 20/20 vision restriction is limited to CF-18/CF-35, or to all aircraft? I have 20/24 vision, and I was wondering if I would be elligable for flying helicopters, maritime patrol, or tactical airlift if I wore glasses or got laser eye surgery. Thanks for your service!

I suppose you would be the guy to ask actually. Will aircraft such as the Aurora or Hercules allow sub-20/20 vision if they wear eyeglasses?

Senior web engineer for a major international bank you've heard of. I develop and support applications that detect money laundering, data mining, and other fun stuff.

Also a father of three, and I spend more time on THAT job. It's more rewarding too. :)

Interesting... I never thought about combining my two favorite interests.

I've worked in IT for the past 16 years... everything from hardware/software support to DB design. Still at it, but looking for a change of scenery.

Its not as interesting as you might think, it kind of ruins the joy of it after awhile. BUT it does have its moments.

Just curious what all kinds of professional peps we have floating around the inner sphere.

I have a degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Human Computer Interaction. I currently work as a front end/ui-ux developer working mainly with HTML5, CSS3, jQuery/Javascript, and PHP building a custom cloud application, and extending Joomla for clients.

My guess is that we have a lot of computery people here.

You wanna know what we do but don't tell us who you work for? Isn't that the real interesting part?

I am UI/Graphics Director for Phoenix Age that does Castle Age on Facebook and Castle Age HD on iOS (was a top 15 grossing app til our latest debacle..). Lotta new games coming up. We also did lesser known Monster Hero and Heart of Darkness. So I basically make the UI look pretty and useful, while also handling various producer stuff.

Short answer: Yes. You still have to pass an eye exam but I know a few pilots who wear glasses. As far as I know only jet jocks have to have 20/20. Right now they're revising the rules for laser eye surgery. As it stands having the surgery done rules you out for aircrew duties though that may change shortly.

Thanks, appreciated.

Is going to cadets a requirement or a huge advantage? I'm learning to fly outside of the Air Cadets, and likely going to university at Mount Royal to continue my training. I have been planning to do a commercial career, but joining the Air Force has attracted my interest and I want to make sure I'm making the right decisions.

Yep. From 2000-2011 I worked there tracking every satellite outside of Earth orbit (besides Voyager 2).

So were you one of those soldiers who got lost and had to find their way by finding "the big dishes?" :P
