I always use that red beam as indicator for "shoot me please". :D
I think, this map will mostly be good for: Large-Lasers, Gauss, UACs.
I won't be very good for slow brawling mechs.

A lot of effort went into building public maps and CW maps, when I think they could have built a large canvas instead, split them up into 9 boxes. The 8 outer ones are CW maps with gates and bases. The middle one is map for public queue and also the centrepiece when conquering a planet in CW (reuseable map for CW as well). Would have used less resources to build a large map and cut them to specific pieces rather than building many-many small ones.

All that said, I think this map would be interesting.

(btw why do people call it a map? Isn't it a setting, or a scenario? A map is only when an eagle eye view of the area)

no....that's not true at all.

It's that it's practically only playable for for those in big groups. they flat out said they designed it to be that way.

I play solo in CW all the time, and have a blast doing it :P It's more fun when you score an organized group to play with, but being a pug aint bad at all...

The longer wait times are offset by with longer play time. Most matches really do last 30 minutes, 20 at the shortest barring a total slaughter. I'd be interested in seeing a study done, of how much wait time it takes to get 30 minutes of play in normal queue, vs CW.

The only thing that is just gidawful about CW is ghost drops...

This map looks interesting and the open lanes concept is something a lot of us have been howling for. Should be a nice change from the 2 lane funnel in that the other maps have become. I look forward to giving it a spin.

However I said it before and i am flogging a dead horse I know.

As others have pointed out there needs to be more PUG maps. PGI please SERIOUSLY consider allowing the fans to help design. I have heard the argument they would have to check each map. But if you create a mirror of the testing server and call it Map Test or something the players themselves can login and test the unholy hades out of them. Give each account a vote. Maps that get really high votes then can be reviewed by PGI and tweaked as needed. The best player map designers would naturally rise to the top and the dregs would give up. Heck create a monthly cockpot item as a prize given to the best map of the month. We all know you can create those in just a day or so.

It would create so many new and interesting maps that even more players would join or rejoin just to play.

Let the fans HELP build this game and keep it alive!

I'm happy for you, but not all of us live in the same time zone or keep the same hours.

Does it change temperature ?
Does it have zero G (or somewhat near there) ?
Does it rotate around itself , showing more than just a static skybox ?
Does it have zones of different ambient temperatures ?
Does it finally have some more space to move around in mechs, given a CW match could last 30 minutes ?
Does it have a design that isn´t derived from a lab-rat´s maze ?
Does it play well and not only look shiny ?
Does it enable attackers to easily destroy O-Gens without even a need to enter the enemies´ base ?

All those questions ... let´s see if there´s some kind of answer available ...

A personal request:
- We need bigger resolution images of these! With the Leopard in them, these are wallpaper material! (I so love the Flying Brick, especially the 80s aesthethics in it).

Thank You PGI for another rock-solid map!

Makes me a happy camper for sticking with the Good & Bad times(as a Founder). The map looks astonishing!

The patch notes say the attackers will have their work cut out for them on this new map. There is little to no cover. It recommends "leap frogging" from crater to crater as you make your approach, as the craters are the only real cover.

It's going to be very interesting.

Jody

If only JJs functioned properly!!

Now I'm angry

Change JJs, forward arc leaping, hold space to move cursor further away from mech in rough implementation then add in 2 keys to allow people to adjust their preset arc done, skill required to plan leaps.

Russ stated in the Town Hall that the PUG maps are being revised & re-worked; as in some made bigger & so forth.
- He also mentioned that some CW maps would be getting a "PUG" treatment in the future, as in put in a different fashion in the future for the PUG matches.

Re-hashing? Yes, but honestly, I wouldn't mind if they would be minorly adjusted/made to work in PUG matches with tweaks.

With minor map changing, can be made a dramatic change in "how the map feels". So... I am all for this. I know what the effect of Forest Colony Snow made, when it was done from Forest Colony.
- It was huge back in the day, and it still feels way different to the standard in all regards.

Sooooo.... the same as every CW map ever? Pretty much the reason why I don't bother too much with CW because the builds are the same every match. 3+ Large Lasers, Dual Gauss, Dual AC5's or UAC5's. Gets very boring getting sniped across the map for 30 minutes especially if you're a brawler-type player since your weapons can't reach them before 6+ large lasers melt your CT in seconds. At least in regular queue at least every third mech will be carrying LRMs, Med Pulses, SRMs, Streaks and AC/10's and 20's.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm disappointed I'll rarely play these sweet looking maps because I prefer to brawl than snipe and you are punished for bringing brawl builds into CW. So I don't play it.

Actually Corundum (Al2O3) is colorless. It's the same material apple uses for it's watch display on the higher priced models and the iphone/ipad camera cover. The red color comes from cromium-ion impurities (as in a ruby).

Are you thinking of something like pure lab synthesized Corundum that's used for stuff like Emery abrasives (and your iproduct screens)? The stuff is almost never colorless, unless purely synthesized. I wouldn't call a planets surface covered with the stuff a bunch of crystal clear synthesized material. The "impurities" you're referring to are still Corundum . . . they're just in the process of becoming various colored Rubies and Sapphires (the gem varieties of Corundum that it's most well known as). Corundum can even be striped in many colors.

Corundum is the base chemical combination for Rubies and Sapphires . . . it comes in MANY colors. One of the most common colors, though, is a reddish-brown color (although actually more brown than red).

Sorry the following images are just links. For some reason the forum editor is NOT liking the prospect of me attaching direct images.

An image of Tanzanian Corundum . . . in the process of becoming a full fledged ruby.
