So I didn't buy this resistance pack, despite wanting the Grasshopper like mad.

Had some left over MC and got the flash sale today and .....the grasshopper is downright horrible!

What the mother man?

It's a literal walking CT. The only way I am seemly able to take damage to the LT or RT is if I accidentally catch a stray shot meant for another mech.

Worse I can't even hide behind the usual cover because the damn thing is SOOO tall. Which wouldn't be so bad if every LRM launched against me didn't strike the CT 90% of the time. I can get shot in the back by LRM's and still have it hit the front CT.

I knew IS energy vomit was going to be bad, simply because IS energy weapons "NEVER" deal full damage because they are always out of optimal range. I just didn't think it would be THIS bad.

So, can't take damage, can't deal damage, and can't jump. Another disappointment...and to top it off, missile perks on a single missile slot located in the head. Desk palm.

I just avoid the stupid missile hardpoint... Load it up with mpl and go to town with the biggest XL engine
The resistance variant is a good jumper with max JJ's, which shouldn't be a problem with all energy

With the right loadout they are average.

But you can't keep the CT alive...it's like the Kintaro fiasco all over again.

Basically this. With their current quirks, they cap out at mediocre.

Since hoverjets are pretty bad right now, Thunderbolts are better in every other way.

That's a bag full of disappointment.

Another childhood Icon crushed.

I was REALLY looking forward to the Grasshopper when they went on sale. When it arrived, reality set in. It's a disappointing mech.

It's frikkin' HUGE.......not good, and an overall mediocre mech. It works for some, but not really for me.

Grasshoppers are very good mechs...more or less slight variations of the same flavor, but very good mechs...if you build and use them well.

So who think they suck are the weak link...can't blame the mech for your failings.

I certainly don't think they suck................the prime problem is they're just too damn tall. They tower over most every mech and stick out like sore thumbs.

They stick out, but they're smaller targets (Surface area wise) than the phract.

Anyways, OP, don't know whatch'ur talking about. Easily one of my favorite Heavies.
But considering the other is the Orion, I suppose I wont find much agreement.

OF all the nerd sci-fi stuff I love, I missed out on battle tech. I got into MW with MW2 in a closeout bin in the 90s. I have never bought a mech because of emotional attachment. I wait and see after the packs come out and buy the biggest brick of cheese I can find. If the mech gets nerfed it does not matter because I always have the cbills leftover from not buying shiny *****.

I am not trying to be a troll, but this system has really made a difference in enjoyable gameplay as well as keeping my cbill real dollar purchases in check. Also for someone who has been a bit of a geek, I have the chance to finally just use the hot ones (OP mechs) and dump them when I lose interest without any real outlay of cash, commitment or expectations.

What are you doing with them, skipping across meadows and amber fields of grain? Use terrain and obstacles...peek-a-boo until they get to brawling range. Use your mobility. Use those high mounted hard points.

I find them good for hit and fade tactics. Despite their height, they've got less frontal area than the barn door that is the Thunderbolt, and people will often try to chase a heavy into an ambush, when they wouldn't chase a light.

Couldn't comment on Grasshoppers first hand. Have three from a pack. Have never taken them out of the mechbay. They just looked too bad by the stats to bother with.

All PGI needs to do is shrink the CT hitbox down a little bit, this way you can actually torso twist to defend your self and still be relatively safe running XL Engines. The mech may be tall but its skinny as hell, if you were actually able to spread the damage around the mech would be rather potent.

IS engines & IS laser boat - without one critical aspect "+range".

You can make a decent showing with solid quirks, but what the Grasshopper has is very middle of the road and it shows.

There is just no real way to compete on equal footing when you are at both an engine disadvantage (vs. Clan XL), inferior weapon disadvantage (vs. Clan Lasers) or a performance disadvantage (vs. Other Quirked IS mechs).

Being ridiculously tall with JJs that are weak, really just exasperates the issue.

It needs a big xl engine in it.

With the extra speed and the JJs you can you can dictate position and range.

It can be effective but it needs the edge in maneuverability. So you must sink a load of cbills into it.

XLs are exceptional in this mech. The boost maneuverability with a big XL is crucial. You have no meaningful survivability trade-off, coupled with JJs you can just come and go as you please.

Just don't try and tank it...it's a heavy medium/light heavy. It's Muhammad Ali, not George Foreman. Keep in cover, poke when you can, once the fight gets close, keep moving, alpha, disengage with your mobility, then use it to re-engage from cover and from another angle with another alpha.

You are a light-cruiser, don't try to run it like a battle-cruiser.
