the build i use in all my three orions is gauss + 2erll +2srm4
oh but if you want brawler then i guess orion wouldn't really be the best choice.
thunderbolt with pulses seem to be a good choice in this case
EDIT: BTW I SHOULD ADD
that some of the orion variants has problems with using SRM, the SRM launchers are in the arms in those, and those arms aren't the strongest hardpoints to put your brawling weapons in, u know? you can put 4xsrm6 in your orion and you will have a tough chin and a big gun, but at your speed and with the hitpoints on those arms, you will be weaponless kinda sooner rather than later, it would seem as if those srm arms are meant for performing lurm trickshots - so if you can brawl with your torso gauss then that would be good, and keep some srm in the arms sure but don't make your build depend on the orion's arms!!
if you want to do srm brawling as main gun get the orion with the left torso launchers instead!
the variant i mean is the K one,
this looks like a wrecking ball! - on paper:

but yeah orions tend to feel a bit on the flimsy side, you will be ok as long as you learn not to get sniped

You are obviously a much much better pilot then I am
Just kidding
It's a matter of playstyle. I could use your 2xsrm6, 2xLPL, 0xHeatsink loadout but I don't want. Of course I could manage the heat and stop firing right in time, but without additional heat sinks it takes ages to cool down. That would actually limit my dps. I could mostly only use the AC10 during a brawl.. And a brawler is what I'm looking for. If that build is you cup of tea, be happy with it. It's just not what I would like to use. I would rather like to manage my damage output rather than my heat
Btw: Modesty is a true warriors virtue

TDR-9S 2x ERPPC, 4x MPL has been fun but not yet the high damage I'd like.
Not for me.
7 MPL was too hot and I like a bit of long range on a Mech. My 5SS is 2 ERLL in the shoulder, 3 MPL. The ERLL can snipe, ridge peek and by themselves barely overheat allowing a long range early game and a lotta firings.
Since the change, the 9S ERPPC is also too hot so it actually is similar to the 5SS but using standard LLs.

Grasshoppers are like taller Thunderbolts, if you know how to move and twist to roll damage, they tank the same and all Hoppers can use JJs. They just do not excel much because of less quirking.
UrbanMechs, 2LLs at least, the rest is your choice. Still running my Urbies, there are games I rack up 3-4 kills with dual LLs, they are like 30 ton Ravens with a 360 turret and whatever options you pack in.

My Thunderbolt 5S is built for brawling; you have the ASRM6s for knife range, and the lasers for up close - with quirks, the Large will even give you a little mid-range harassing power. It puts out decent firepower, and can fight for extended periods without overheating.
My TDR-9S is less awesome, but still does a workmanlike job of putting megajoules downrange as an ERPPC sniper. It's not a top performer since it was nerfed down out of the stratosphere a while back, but it's still viable, if on the low end of it.
For the 5SS, just stick a medium pulse laser in every spot you can, stick in AMS, and fill everything else with Double Heat Sinks. It's amazing at close range, though it does run hot.
The 5SE is more problematic. I don't have a build I'm sure I like yet, but I've gotten a decent 3LPL, 2MPL build that works fairly well - at the cost of an XL engine. I like the chassis, but I'm still trying to figure out how I want to make it work.
In any case, Thunderbolts are phenomenal mid-size brawlers. In terms of Assaults (on the Inner Sphere side) the Banshee can do all right - and although it's difficult to pilot, nothing in the game quite takes a licking and keeps on kicking like an Atlas.

I read your post on the other thunderbolt topic and adapted my 5S build a little bit accordingly. I now bring AMS and exchanged one DHS for one additional ML in the arm. better damage/heat ratio. So, I run more or less the same build now just with 2 LL and one ML, less DHS but bigger engine ( TDR-5S ). The dual LL in the torso do surprisingly well in exploiting an enemy mechs weak spot. great finisher

Will still level-up the thunderbolts and eventually try the orions tho. But for now I have to say: these were the best 10 bucks I ever spend in this game!
