Ive actually dusted my Nova off and tried running it with a gazillion small lasers. Good times.

what do the rest of you think
I think this sums up perfectly what is wrong with the vocal minority of MWO with biased demands for buffs and nerfs. "I do not own one, but I'm making an assumption that this is better than that, because I said so."

Positives generally outweigh the negatives I think on this mech - good mobility (not speed per se') with JJ and it can rip your face off up close fairly quickly with most of its prevailing loadouts (sml & med laser/mg boating combinations for the most part)... fairly short and can use cover well, etc... seems to me to have OK hitboxes... in my experience it can take a pretty high amount of punishment... and the fact that it can boat like 400 small/med weapons means that it can still do some significant damage even after losing some parts...
Downsides are that it's slow (81 base which is = to the TW) and has most of its hardpoints in arms...so lose an arm and approximately 1/2 your firepower is now laying in the dirt... and the arms being fairly low also means its can't really act as a hull down sniper type... could also see arm mounted weps as a + for brawling tho - which side of the coin you wanna look at there is up to you.
I can tell you that I get a decent amount of kills in it and that it definitely holds its own in my clan deck (MDD/TBR/NVA/SCR)... and that I have fun playing it... role wise I see it as an up close and personal slasher-type mech, I have never really tried it as a standoff platform... I just don't see it being built for that.
Only thing I would really like to see is a base speed increase. When the 50 ton mech runs as fast as the 75 ton mech, then for my $ the problem is with the 50 ton mech... not a fan of the nerf bat and love the TW to death of course...
My $.02...

Not once in my OP did I ask for the nova to be nerfed, so to the rest of you clowns who posted go somewhere else.

I believe the Nova's toughness to be somewhat illusory.
It still is the easiest mech to hit any location you want. Thing is most people simply seem to aim for the arms, knowing that will neuter it, and they are bigger targets than the ST. The arms though, got a pretty hefty HP buff, while the STs really are pretty fragile still. I find that I aim ST, Novas become a paperweight real quick.
And if you pay attention to the enemy team at range, they are slow enough to be relatively easily neutered before reaching effective range.
That said, miss one, or let one ambush you in CQB, it's harder to pick a hitbox during an in your face furball, and that is where the Nova can be downright nasty.
But catch one in the open? Meh.

It's not a very forgiving mech, you have to be more careful of where and how you commit yourself. It is better now, though, and I've been able to get out of a few dicey situations.
If you saw someone doing well in one they're either very skilled or very lucky, or both.

It's also the size of an Assault mech, so warranted.
It does have many hardpoints, located at his Knees. Of which, if you press the wrong button or hit your mouse...you've gone Supernova.
The risk VS reward is still high in this mech. It dies easily, as it always has. The hitboxes are just that bad.

The Nova really shines in short range fights, as with the ER-smalls firing 1 arm at a time, it takes quite a while to reach your heat threshold. The only real trick to it is learning the maps, and learning how to get into brawly range without getting slaughtered by the heavy long range builds that are out there.

Nova is still made of wet cardboard. But it has always shredded in hit and run close combat.

Well, the Nova could add Endo, upgrade to a 300XL (which is TT construction) and drop a JJ, he'll have identical tonnage (15.5) and lose 2 crit slots.
Keep the JumpJet, and be at an even 15 tons (good for lasers and heatsinks) but be out 3 crit slots. Many builds work around that, although some would need to lose LAAs.
So, lose 2-3 crit slots, and move 107 Kph (17 faster) at very little cost. Nova isn't very gifted in construction.
