Indeed - the new mech select UI is both ugly and difficult to use. The copious expandable lists are just a terrible idea and also need to be removed from the mech select in Private Lobbies and CW dropdeck selection in favour of a filterable grid. They also detract from that amazing "Look at all the mechs I own" feeling you get when you see a wall of mechs that are all yours.

I repeat: Private Lobbies and CW dropdeck mech selection with the expandable lists is terrible and clunky. Grid, please. Posted Image

Oh thank the gods I am not the only one who prefers the MechBay Grid!!!

To be clear, I REALLY like the interface when configuring mechs and such... but I hate the 'Select Mech' screen. Give me the MechBay Grind any day of the week!

Totally agree, my thoughts exactly. And now you can't hover your mouse over the mechs to see their stats and quirks.

Now, please ADD icons for equipped modules in the photos so we can find the things quickly. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

My only solution would be a seperated "favourites" tab that you can link 20 mechs into, keeping the old style.

I have been wishing for a favorites tab or section since they removed it from the old closed beta mechlab. I have way to many mechs these days with 8 more coming with clan wave 3.

We really need to have a list of favs, 20 sounds good.

Agreed. Much prefer the grid to the new way.

Need to be able to sort by tonnage, like the old grid mech select.

To all wishing for the grid view: you pretty much have it.

At the very top click the sort by dropdown and...

SORT BY WEIGHT CLASS

and yes, they are organized by increasing or decreasing tonnage. Open 4 sections. Done. Enjoy the very slow scroll wheel with your grid view.

there is now no longer a way to view your mechs without many clicks. old select mech screen has grid on the left and mech appearance on right. its a mech game, why do i have to go through several menus just to see my mech?

Now I'm confused, you want to view the mech as you click on them (like the old one), or you want grid tiles? I would agree that having the mech select light/med/hev/assault filters on the left as well as the rollup bars are redundant when sorted by class.

MS Paintlab FTW

And I remembered incorrectly, mechs are not sorted by weight, they are alphabetical. I'll add this to my list of issues.

Seeing the mech as you clicked on it was cooler.

the old grid just needs the clan - inner sphere buttons added then its perfect ( under the light medium...champion hero mech selection sorter) then it would be perfect

Yes, desperately! The old mech stable looked great and worked well beyond having filters. Put the mech select type filters on the old stable and it would be perfect. The mech LAB is what needed overhauling!

I am in agreement, the grid is something I am not prepared to do without. Though I was glad to see most of the improvements that this mechlab brings, the removal of the grid made navigation more confusing for me personally. I think the best solution is to return to the current mech grid and have all of the new mechlab functionality appear when 'configure' is clicked. If that is not possible here are some quick mock ups of some possible solutions:

Spoiler
This is a mock up of the new mech selection screen with check boxes at the top to switch views. The classic grid view is shown.
Spoiler
This shows a return to the mechlab 1.0 style of mech selection. A minimize button would reduce it to a small bar on the bottom of the screen.

Outside of this issue great job PGI, keep up the good work.

FYI, just added a new mockup regarding this specific screen. In includes both easy to do fixes and deeper changes that could save us hours and (hopefully) raise the user experience in a substantial way.

I agree with the OP.

The new mechlab is a huge step forward, but mech selection became a lot more tedious. Please keep the old grid layout but add the filter options to it.

Also, please include some kind of 'favorites' function.

there is also no "mouse over a mech and see what quirks it has" :'<

Many times I just want to build up a chassis after its quirks or I'm searching for a specific quirk because I know that mech has the ones I want but dont know which variant exactly. With the new UI there is no mouse over popup while selecting a mech, that makes it pretty damn annoying to find the variant due to loading every single variant (Locust i.e. has 7...) and take a closer look.

EDIT: Now I began to rename all that chassis after their quirks... @_@
