PS: Margaret Sanger was a horrible, racist person whose views would today embarrass the organization she founded, which is saying something.

No matter what, PGI will almost never do the right thing until it is forced on them. Example: A good majority of the player base knew hacking was going on in game literally since June 2012. It was reported over and over on the boards, reddit, tweets, etc. Not until the most recent videos showed up all over youtube that PGI is now; finally, acknowledging and possibly doing something about it. I dont think they owe me but should put out a ban page and what they did to get banned. This is especially true when it comes to hacks. Seriously....I have seen guys put up nearly 1k every single game for the past few years and all of a sudden after the videos for hacks show up, they are now doing average damage. So hell yeah! Name and shame and stop being a ***** about it!

Huh? I never assume it's because they were cheating, and I always assume it's because they were an *******, either in chat or whatever else. It's amazing how many people are totally unable to behave themselves with some measure of civility.

The person in question had numerous vods of questionable behavior, that was backed up by accusations from old teammates.

Also, any listing of reasons for a ban are not worth the effort for a company. Heck, I wouldn't even list banned players anywhere - it's an internal matter and not open for player input. If it's a no-name player, who cares? And if it's a high-profile player, you have PR issues such as player debates and controversy - heck, it's even hypothetically possible for banned players to sue for defamation or such, depending on the applicable laws and the player's situation.

Better just to ban them without fanfare and be done with it. I mean, if I'm banning someone, do I want to let them stir up trouble?

I can say with complete honesty: I've been on the internet and message boards very nearly for as long as they've existed, and in that time? I've never been banned. Ever. From anything.

If people do get banned, I assume they did something stupid.

you are lucky then

people who ban are usually pretty stupid

i was banned multiple times, once for quoting william blake, another time for discussing cute ribbons, once for posting a pony version of internet explorer, once for saying that i had an old acc i forgot a password of etc etc

Games like Guild Wars, H1Z1, League of Legends, Smite, etc., post either ban lists for all players or ban lists for competitive players. Evidently, getting sued isn't a big enough problem to dissuade this.

Works for me just name those banned for cheating some place.

I dont know if this is a good idea or not although after facing an aim botter in a match, maybe not this game but others I do think name and shame is the way to go.

Either way they can if they want to name and shame, nothing from stopping them.

I feel for anyone wrongfully banned I had my pay cheque taken wrongfully in real life and it cost me ALOT. Just a construction worker doing hard labour and some pencil pushers took my pay cheque, 70% of my cheque I lost everything and I was already paying my taxes every 2 weeks. Someone used my social insurance number, not my name or anything so any cheques that were written were not even in my name, all parties concerned know this but to this day I am hounded for money someone else got not even in my name, I am harrassed wrongfully and for years and the party doing the harrassing know all of this....... I cant believe it either sometimes. I could go on for two pages more at least.

Point is I feel for anyone unfairly banned, so I hope they dont make mistakes.

Given what qualifies as PGI's piss poor investigation, not to mention their shoddy enforcement, they really should be more open.

Even if PGI said why, people who still make assumptions.

I found out about what the OP is referring to earlier and went digging to find out just wtf everyone was bitching about. I came to the conclusion that it's utterly moronic. It doesn't affect you, so why get hot and bothered about it?

If you suspect someone is cheating, report them and PGI will do what they do.

You'd think this was a group of young teenagers, the amount of gossip that gets thrown around here and reddit. Not a mature gaming community.

If they're on reddit, then "mature" is not a word I would think of. ;)

Disagree...they have a reason for banning, whatever reason it was that player(s) shouldn't have been doing it. I and others I know keep their nose clean and don't get banned....simple as that

Let's be honest here, PGI has warned about cheating before.

Also, there is a very good reason lynch mobs are prosecuted for their crimes.

Heh.

Would these be the pillars Paul was talking about in closed Beta ? I was kind of hoping for Marble Doric ones

Wait until they get sued by someone with deep pockets and who likes to spend as if there is no tomorrow. Then they just might change their minds.

They need to install code that logs the cheaters and run it silently for a month; then ban them all. If they do this dribble bans, the programmers will just change the code to circumvent the detection. I am moderately sure that is a better approach. Catch and ban them all.

I won't say people are never unfairly banned, but I will say that its been my experience that people who are unfairly banned have acted inappropriately. Perhaps not deserving of a ban, but they still did something in the first place.

He reason I've never been banned is that I act according to the rules of forums I'm a part of. Not the letter of the rules (because "riding the line" will inevitably get you banned) but the spirit thereof.

Its not hard.

As to the thread subject matter - I've reviewed the various reddit threads... Definitely a valid suspicion that she was wallhacking, but we will probably never really know for sure.

I would be unsurprised to find out that's what happened, but no more than finding out that she'd sent a particularly salty email either.

*Shrug* Why individuals are banned is none of my business: it's a matter for PGI to decide between themselves and the individual.

If people are banned for cheating, or for a couple of other things like spamming blatant hate speech in-game, then as long as there's a method of appeal to act as a safeguard then I'm reasonably happy with that system.

Personally I've seen the youtube video in question and I wonder if the cheating that's alleged in it is quite as prolific as has been alleged. In all my matches since I first started in MWO back in August of 2012, I've experienced precisely ONE match where I thought the aiming ability of the enemy team, and the way in which their astonishing aim manifested itself in-game, gave rise to a belief that they were probably cheating. I won't name the unit because I can't be sure and foolishly failed to record the match in question. That match happened this year, probably around 2 months ago.

I do not think that naming and shaming people is useful. What is it supposed to achieve? Some sort of "transparency of justice?" If PGI announced one day that they'd banned 12 people for using exploits or some sort of cheat, then in this instance I'd be more than happy to take them at their word.

Meh, this whole issue appears to be seriously over-blown.

Once a cheater always a cheater.

Doesn't matter if it is life, love or school. A cheater is as a cheater does.

you are a bit too tough on them, people change. did somebody lure a piece of cheese from you (:

No, people don't change. Once they hit the age of 30 they are set in their ways.

But a cheater, well, they are always a cheater.
