I am not the best player in the world but when a FS or Spider takes a full 87 point alpha that is from 50-75m away and barely turns yellow that is really bad.

Its a dice roll hit reg works = legged or CTed doesn't work = overheat and die

A Firestarter can easily survive 5 gauss shots if the pilot can't aim. 3 to an arm before it falls off, all torsos can take a few, legs can take a few...

All of this talk of hitreg issues on specific mechs is surprisingly absent in high tier play, be it on a Firestarter or a Stormcrow. Wonder why that is...

Cus they are hacking?

Just stirrin' the pot......................

Last night I was in a match, I watched a FS9 take 5 gauss shots.
And it still lived.
The FS9 was dancing and alpha striking a Direwolf.
It shut down at 3 times, managed to kill the Dire Wolf, then turn and killed the Shadow Hawk.
I was in the Shadow Hawk's cockpit watching.
That is just ridiculous.
I understand you put microscopic hit boxes on lights to improve their survivabilty.
Or no one would play them.
Not to mention the lag shield included.
Just plain stupid.
Oh and by the way increase the range on my tag, and fix my freaking lrms.
GRRRRRR.......
Rant over.
Commence QQ.

Have you ever played a light? I find it funny that 99% of the people who complain about lights would be unable to break 300 damage actually piloting one....post your best score board and prove me wrong...

I'll hop in a trail mech and do it tonight.

You guys need to be more realistic about your aiming abilities. The firestarter is fast so its hard to hit, has a lot of armor (for a light) and arms it can shield with so it takes more hits to kill. You're used to killing super weak mechs like the locust, the walking center torso jenner and slow clan lights. Its really strange that something that provides a challenge is considered broken.

As for the "he was shut down and took 1000 ac20 shots to the face with not damage" claims, prove it! This is a daily complaint and I hear this all the time yet, despite all the people streaming and recording their games, I've never actually seen it happen. I've played the firestarter enough to know that this is ********.

Clans??? FS9's have been an issue since they were created. Its pretty much the only light mech people complain about unless the light mech is warping every where.

By the way A Firestarter is a IS mech

When did I say the firestarter was a Clan mech?

Anyways, it sounds like the players in your elo bracket need to uninstall or L2P.

Firestarter has been a problem child since it was added, much like the Raven was originally. Drivers of the Raven all claimed that we were just bad players, we needed to L2P or L2Aim, etc, much like the Firestarter drivers have been doing.

Guess what, the Raven WAS broken and PGI finally fixed it!

I have a Firestarter, the few times I've used it I've done over 300 damage easy, never died, and that was before I got ANY of the Basics on it. I don't use my Firestarter because I realize it IS broken and it's just exploiting to use one when I know full well it's broken and needs to be fixed.

I've put dual Gauss into the back of a Firestarter that was shutdown, twice in a row, didn't even remove it's back armor. I've slapped them in the face with AC20s, nothing. Blown their legs off with ease while they were running at full speed with those same weapons. So, tell me, those of you who defend the Firestarter, how exactly do you defend that the torso hitboxes aren't broken when blowing off their legs is actually fairly easy but their torsos are black holes when it comes to damage?

I think it was more the JJ's on the spider rather than hit boxes.

Nope, it was a hitbox issue, torsos, really funny sometimes to watch them take dual AC20s while standing still and just run away afterwards. Raven was the same, and now the Stormcrow and Firestarter are the problem children.

I probably wasnt around for the Spider. I do remember the Ravens being annoying as **** but no where near the level of FS9's IMO.

I still hate that the Locust is soo small that rocks can hide its ******* legs!

Yeah. I've seen similar. I've seen one stop, taking full alpha of lasers, yet the damage either spreads everywhere or gets sucked into the void. Then take it's time picking off my shoulder. If it hadn't dead stopped, I wouldn't complain and chalk it up to bad aim.

I was playing CW on my Clan account earlier and slammed a Raven and a Locust with my 6 med pulse lasers at point blank range, several times.. Did hardly any damage.

So now I'm piloting a locust just to see..
I did eventually get the LCT from the back when he overheated.. Hehe...

Amazing that theres still huge denial about hitreg problems on some mechs, including the FS9.

Posted Image
This was one of my first games in the FS9, most likely second or third but I dont remember the exact number. Wow its easymode.
Bad hitreg isnt consistent, sometimes my Firestarter explodes easily but most of the time it tanks obscene amounts of damage. You all know it, dont deny - just accept.

Regarding the "high tier play", all hope for objectivity and fairness on such topics is lost. I played other games competitively in leagues for many years and we defended all kinds of bugs that we used to our advantage. For example, nailbug, ex_interp and some _special stunts in TFC.
In addition to those things, a good deal of third party software was in use with some players. Once VAC was released, lots and lots of highly regarded players magically disappeared.

Why is it there's always a discussion on hitreg and hitboxes, but nobody ever asks what the pings were between the shooter and the target?

Just saying, the game is mostly UDP, if the player's aren't getting all the packets, that would go a long way explaining things.

Case in point: Nobody complains about Timber Wolf hitreg. Well one game a few weeks ago I was in my Grid Iron with a Gauss on Bog and while standing on one of the platforms, I was sighting a standing still TWF across the way on another platform. I nailed him 5 times, right on the nose, center mass at 400m. I was zoomed in with the Advanced Zoom module, I got a real close look. Three of those hits passed right through him, I actually saw the impacts on the wall behind him. His paper doll updated only twice. I checked the ping, I've got 30, he's got 200+.

This is the reason the best way to kill almost any mech is to just leg it.

I like to drive a 115kph Panther. I get one-shotted by gauss rifles (while moving) every few matches...

This is the problem I see more than Hitreg. Same tonnage:

Panther = easily destroyed, medium DPS profile
Firestarter = twice as hard to destroy (or so perceived), large DPS profile

IMO, the problem really stems from such a wide band of DPS profiles. If the firestarter had nearly the same DPS profile as the Panther I think you'd see complaints drop substantially. You can't have two mechs nearly identical with one light having the firepower of a heavy and the other just being meh.

You can observe the same thing in the Stormcrow vs. Wolverine. It is perceived that the mech is OP probably because it puts out just as much DPS as your 85 ton Battlemaster and can roll damage much easier.

Actually, we did complain about the Timberwolf, JJ exploit, remember? Some other Mechs, including the Firestarter, also had that issue, and that's been addressed. Timbys are no longer so hard to kill if they have JJ, and many Firestarters stopped doing the JJ trick as it doesn't work now, we can blow their legs right off when they try now, couldn't before.

Spiders, Ravens, they had actual hitbox problems, and people kept trying to say it was just bad aim, hitreg, ping, lost packets, anything but the reality, bad hitboxes. People get something that they know is broken but it allows them to be awesome, they don't want it touched and will deny there's any issues with it, it's OTHER people who are the problem. See any online game for clear examples of this over the past 20 years.

Fact is, there were hitbox issues, there seem to be hitbox issues with the SCrow and Firestarter, as both of them have, since they were released, been a constant complaint target due to them being able to absorb so much damage without dropping. Sunday night, had a SCrow that had it's back to me, I put 5 AC20 rounds into the middle of it's back, 10 ERPPC rounds, and 10 medium laser full burns. He wasn't moving, I wasn't moving, his armor didn't change at all. I wasn't the only one firing on him either, 2 other Mechs were firing at his back, and 1 was standing directly in front of him. The 1 in front died, the SCrow started to take off and I said to hell with this, blew one of his legs off, someone else took his other leg out. He was the last enemy Mech, so end of round. I had fired on 2 targets before him, 1 was a Commando who I 1 shotted with an AC20 and 2xERPPC to the left rear torso, and another was an Atlas who I hit once with my AC20 before someone else killed him. I had over 700 damage at end of round, and there's no way in hell I could possibly do THAT much damage to a single SCrow from behind without killing it long before I hit that much damage. His ping btw, was 46, mine was 75, so I don't think that really could account for the issue, and I did check pings while I was firing on his back, because that was my first thought, this guy must have a 600+ ping! Nope, 46ms ping, and his shots were hitting targets fine, so it wasn't packet loss. The amount of damage I did on him shows I was hitting, but the damage, while registering on the server, wasn't registering on the Mech, which is exactly what the Spider and Raven did before they fixed them.

It's the hitboxes, someone did to the SCrow and Firestarter what they did with the Spider and Raven before them, you'd THINK someone would learn to avoid doing that by now...

I mentioned clans because they are slow and easier to hit. I already explained why people single out the firestarter, its the only light without "**** me" taped to its ass. Honestly, I like the whole invulnerable mystic the firestarter has. People run right into danger thinking they will make it. They learn the hard way that the bugs disappear when facing an enemy that can actually aim.
