.....and that is a lot of heat to start with.

Ghost heat only triggers on the 7th C-ERML, and it's an additional 6~ish heat. So it's about 48+, not 62.

To IraqiWalker, (didn't feel the need to do the whole quote thing). I didn't do the math, but what I did do is start my stop watch from when I fire, to when the beam ends on my stormcrow prime, that has 2ERlg, 3med, and 2 srm 4. From start to finish very close to 3 sec. I didn't time the TW..but since it's the same penalty, I inferred that it's about the same.

One of three things has happened here:
1- Your stop watch is borked
2- You borked something
3- PGI borked something

In all honesty, number 3 sounds VERY possible

Modules don't mean jack. If we count the modules for the TDR, then we should count modules for the TBR as well, which ends up giving up more range advantage to the TBR actually.

You are either ignorant to the fact or purposefully omitting the fact that the TImberwolf has one less weapon module slot available to it, which is quite a significant factor, 10% range or 12% cool down.

48.72 heat is generated for firing 7 ERML. Ghost Heat begins when you fire any combination of more than 6 Clan medium or small lasers and will apply the highest penalty of the weapon types fired.

Okay. I've run around in my timberwolves post patch now. And you know what? This nerf is bullshizzle. I'm sitting there holding down my freakin triggers just waiting and waiting for my lasers to fire. When they do, it's a millisecond or so after I take my fingers off the triggers cuz' I'm running for cover and I end up shooting into the ground. I've been trying to use missiles more, but running into ghost heat issues. I've reduced my lasers down to just two Large Pulse Lasers, and added a cooldown module to them. A module up until yesterday I'd recommend no one to get because it makes your mech hotter. Now, I have to put one on just to feel like I'm not a few seconds behind the rest of the world.

Come on PGI, the joke is over. This is HONKIN' BULLSHIZZLE!!! Give me my Timberwolf back. If you want to penalize firing more than four lasers or something, fine. But I'm only running two. Used to run 4 ERML's. Now that mech is crap too.
Sigh.... You get what you pay for, unless you bought it from PGI, huh?

You know, if you actually read my post, you'd realize we were talking about range here. Reading comprehension OP.

So it looks like your machine might be the one with the hiccups. The fixes were for the burn duration, not firing delay. Check your mouse's cable.

No, that's just called ping delay. Having always had a ping of usually 100+ on any online game I play, I've just gotten used to the fact that things happen a noticable couple ticks later than I actually do them. Which in a sense, is a touch of realism when it comes to responsiveness; this really just means typical first-person shooters aren't alot of fun.

It's possible he either had some extra lag, or he's misrepresenting the fact that he has to hold the burn on-target for SO long that with 'normal' movement in and out of cover, half the damage is tracking onto buildings and walls since he's not dumb enough to just sit still and watch his laser do its burn.

Having tried my Timber Wolf I can now say wow... It's lasers suck. I did not think it would make such a difference but holy ****! Not well thought out. I am very upset with the developers for this for they ruined my favourite mech (which was not a meta build if anyone is wondering). Just garbage.

Mind posting the build (it's mainly for my own curiosity, I also want to see if alternate pods can't alleviate the problem).

It doesn't matter the build really. I've been playing CW all night in Clan Wolf as part of the event. None of my mechs are meta builds, but all have lasers on them supporting a primary weapon set. I'm getting nerfs of 15-21% depending on build. Even though none of my mechs but the SCR-Prime are laser-focused, they all suck much harder now. In a way, the 2 quirks kinda stack in such a way that it really doubles your negative if you're actually engaging enemies straight up, such as when brawling.

Ironically, the meta builds and tactics don't seem to be effected, as I said days ago they wouldn't be. Laser vomit is still perfectly effective because the downsides of the quirks aren't coming into play. I'm seeing nerfed IS and Clan mechs in large numbers doing well spamming lasers just like before. Nothing quite like seeing 6 yellow and 2 blue lines (or 8 green, 4 blue, etc) flying at you and knowing that you can't even fire your 2 yellow and 4 red back without having to run away to cool off.

Brawling on my SCRs and TBRs is more or less dead for me in CW. I may just have to slap together some meta builds to finish out this event, since they're still doing so well. Sadly, while my mech builds WERE diverse, PGIs nonsensical changes might force me toward the meta, rather than away from it.

2 Large Pulses, 2 ER mediums, 2 LRM 15s.

1.14 heat efficiency. 2.5 tonnes LRM ammo.

The laser burn time is stressing me out. It's like everything is an ER large.

Running my 4 MLaser + 4 Streak 4 TWolf tonight, and my 4MLaser + 2 Streak 6 tonight. The streaks already have long cooldowns, but the laser cool downs are just too much. Not only do I have to expose myself for longer to keep the beams on target - longer than any other mechs due to the already long beam lengths on Clan lasers, but waiting for either the Streaks or lasers to recharge/cool down is just obnoxious. I poke around the corner to shoot, surprised that my lasers won't fire. Compared to the quirked up inner sphere lasers on my IS laserboats, the IS mechs really are the easy button in the game. The only reason we were winning drops in CW this evening was skilled teams vs. pugs. If I took the same team and played inner sphere, I would have steamrolled the clans with them. I would say my guys are an average team, too. Only the poor coordination of the pug groups helped us win. Please roll back the TWolf and SCrow nerfs. Maybe just add beam duration and cooldown nerfs if you're boating lasers, like ghost heat/firing more than say, 4 medium/mpulse or 2 LLaser/LPulse makes the burn times go up and cooldown times go up. But the balanced builds, as I see my builds shouldn't be penalized.

(Or, you know, sized hardpoints? hint hint. That might bring down the alpha meta a notch.)

Are you running S-ST pods? If so, that explains a LOT. Swap at least the RT for the TBR-D if you need JJs that much. Otherwise, swap both for the D pods.

ho hum, this kind of thing is why PGI haven't had a penny out of my wallet scince the initial release of clan mechs. Balancing is fine but the constant nerfs and quirks have just got silly now. Clan mechs are supposed to be better then the IS mechs, i wonder if any of the guys at PGI have ever even heard of Battletech or read any of the source material ?

Vote with your wallets people!

No
They're
Not.

what kind of idiot still thinks that in a competitive online game one set of fighters should simply be better than everyone else, but still expects people to use the inferior ones. take that asinine mentality back to the board game where it belongs.

There's a reason why in every previous battletech and MechWarrior game IS mechs are either obsolete, or make full use of clan tech basically making them clan mechs. At least PGI is tackling the issue rather than admitting defeat and phasing IS out of the game.

There ya go. Avoiding as much of the nerf as possible. Still nerfed. Are those meta-builds? Alpha builds? I don't think so. I would say those are about as balanced as you can get. Stormcrow doesn't run as hot at the T-Wolf, but then it only has 2 streak packs. T-Wolf has 4, which gives ghost heat when alpha striking. But Alpha builds don't rely on missiles, as they are not direct fire. With the beam duration increases, holding on one location of a moving target is even harder. Much easier on IS mechs. Given the ranges at which most combat happens, the IS range difference isn't such a handicap as it might sound. Okay, Clan mechs do more damage with their lasers, but not that much more, and IS mechs can torso twist or move away easier - or just brawl as the Clan weapons recycle slower and are much hotter.

Look, I'm not saying clan tech should be superpowered, I just want it to do what it's supposed to do, and this nerf is unreasonable. This is the only case where equipping the same weapon on one mech is purposely worse than putting it on another mech. I'm not using my 2xLPL + 4xERMLaser build anymore, or my laserboat stormcrow anymore. I don't mind that, really, as they were just as deadly as the laser stalker and T-bolt still are, and I do believe that those builds are canonically ridiculous and shouldn't even be allowed. PGI should instead, as I said, penalize for boating more than a mech is designed to boat. But these nerfs hurt even balanced mechs, and that's the crime here.

Like many of us have said, the quirk changes dont really hurt the meta builds because of how they are played. If you're just going to pop in and out of cover, what does it matter how long your recovery time is? What you should have noticed is that scr and tbr builds for brawling are not doing so well. Pretty much any build with lasers that gets face time is being owned by the equivalent IS mech. And in any normal situation those clan mechs were not above and beyond anything else. Ultimately the quirk change was the wrong call.

Because these quinerfs as i call them are effecting low lever players not the meta high level players.

Try playing clan mechs before you stick your nose into things you don't know about.

Don't put down words where you pilot hasn't put their feet down.

Ya know what have fun with your 5th succession wars I hope the Inner Sphere makes Battlemechs losttech by the end..
