It's best to avoid both if possible.

By the way, do they plan on ever introducing collision detection, or is this the plan going forward?

PGI seems incapable of figuring out how to bring it back without abuse, so........

and certain goons decided to catch paul ingame and "exploit" the mechanic to much lulz....for everyone except Paul who conceived the mechanic if I remember correctly....much like his other noble contribution ghost heat....it is horribly flawed...sadly people cant abuse ghost heat for him
(I also love the 1.4 DHS)

I wonder how many more posters confuse collisions with knockdowns? Collision wasn't abused, knockdown was. PGI can simply reduce the knockdown value to zero and implement previous collision.

Need solid collisions, but knockdowns can stay gone.

also so that one day...that locust running around you doing circles on a road will fail a piloting check and smash into a wall...as it is meant to be...

IIRC, the Dragon had (by mistake) the same collision parameters (read: collision weight) as the Atlas. Couple that with the ability to mount really large engines, and there's no surprise we had "designated hitters" - Dragons with max engine, max armour, and little to no weaponry, whose sole job it was to knock down an opponent so that the rest of the team could kill it with impunity (since once knocked down, there was about 3-5 seconds where you didn't have any control over your 'mech).
It was Grief City.
Collisions+knockdowns as implemented back then was a crap mechanic and I'm glad it's gone.

If they could figure that out, I'd be on the barricades cheering. But as long as they can't, it needs to stay gone.

If an enemy has a deep red internal torso, I think you can kill them with a collision as well...I think.
The worst collision damage I have ever seen those was getting caught on terrain on Veridian Bog while JJing. With one JJ attempt, my legs were both stripped of armor and internals turned orange. That was a bit disheartening.
