Not touching anything EA. If any other company did MWO I think the mechs wouldn't look anywhere near as good (and don't you dare argue with me that old BTech models look like crap) and probably far worse down the F2P rating. The game's pretty fun right now though I agree with the lack of tutorials and a more in-depth experience for CW, other than that, I'm fine with the title is right now.

People seem to think a different company could have done better. Just look at every other MWO game ever made and look at what PGI produced. Visuals alone for the mechs wins hands down. And since this is a mechpr0n game that counts for a lot.

Around the 90s EA was fairly small and actually cares about customers. I really loved the BF1942 series ans more older games from them. Like Activision with Modern Warfare 1 (such a good ga,e), EA became bigger and bigger, takimg over multiple studios and closed it down. Milking franchises and half baked games are no common from EA.

Star wars looks promising but i bet it will be another lame port from BF4 and mashup with complete new textures but the same old stuff.

I havent touched EA, Activision, Ubisoft, the bigger cash grabbing companies for a long time. All crapware. Origin and crap isnt making better though.

I think PGI is fairy doing well, they have only chosen a wrong concept (F2P) and a terrible management.

I honestly couldn't come up with a better thread name, so there.

Anyway, I ask this because after witnessing quite a number of whiny posters complaining about how "PGI is a sham" and "we should bankrupt them" etc,etc after the recent nerfs, it got me wondering how others feel about this topic. What are your opinions?

I also have trouble figuring out what company outside of PGI would be willing to take on the prospect of holding on the the Mechwarrior franchise considering how niche it is, and the first real attempt at resurrecting it only happened over a bleeting decade after the last MW game. Could it be said that PGI saved MW from complete obscurity then, since no other company appears interested in it outside of Harmony Gold trying to milk us via "lolsuemore"?
Wouldn't a threat like this be considered actionable?

It's more an empty threat i.e "We should stop buying stuff so that PGI can go bankrupt."

Basically, an improbable action.

I think the attitude of bittervets & forum whiners is unrepresentative of the majority's satisfaction with MWO.

I disagree. MWO almost got run into the ground last year and I think most people were dissatisfied with the game at some point.

PGI has gotten a lot better though and I think even the staunchest critics of PGI recognize that.

Typos? Check

Wacky/upsetting Gaffs? Check
Mismanaging the business? Maybe

Yes. PGI is a proper holder of this IP.

Well muscle like Sony behind this game wouldnt be all bad. :) Either way the upcoming Steam launch is the big thing with this game now. They have a tutorial on the way and decals and maybe other stuff. Going to be an interesting year for this game that is for sure. So far so good even if feature additions have been slow, the excellent game play kept it going.

Is this game in the right hands? I guess the game will speak for itself by the end of the year. Dun dun dun (insert dramatic music here)

I made mistake, development hasnt been slow, feature additions have been slow... changed reply above, important difference.

They put the money up when noone else was and they've managed to keep the operation going, if they have made a big enough mistake then the company folds and the rights get sold on to someone else willing to give it a shot. That's all the "worthy" that is needed, anything else is a useless concept given the costs involved in setting up a game. The only way to prove any group as "more worthy" would be to get together an alternative offering and try to buy out the current rights. Till then accept how it works and get your head out of the clouds.

Exactly, SOE would probably even revamp the game into a persistent MMOFPS instead of this instanced CoD like gameplay. MechWarrior-side

Yep. I do indeed think they are worthy.

I think there has been many a bump in the road, but I'm quite happy with the game and the way it's going.

The secret to understanding Battletech and Mechwarrior fans, is to accept the fact that they can be both amazingly supportive and enthusiastic players, and spectacularly self centered pissy and whiny ingrates at the same time.

There will never, ever be a game that completely pleases the community. Any developer taking on a MechWarrior title, especially one that is MP only, is always going to face the challenge of answering to a passionate and devoted community that are supporters of a niche market title.

Many of us realize that this might be the last and greatest chance we have to realize our MechWarrior dreams, and take a keen interest in the direction of the game. Some are content to watch and see how things pan out, with suggestions and encouragement. Others will uncompromisingly fight tooth and nail to try and have their perfect giant robot experience realized, and will become bitter when things don't roll the way they want them to.

I'm just happy that I have a MechWarrior game that I love. I'll continue to support both it and the devs until I tire of headshotting DireWolves with my dual gauss Yager - which, I believe, will happen around the time of the eventual heat death of the universe.

Well the instanced game play is excellent. Will they use that as a building block like the Mass Effect series has done? As a player I like to explore open worlds as well, is that what the Star Map is? Sony america has a checkered past and I am not impressed at all, in fact the opposite is true mostly. Sony as a company deserves alot of respect and sets the standard in the industry almost as much as MS does in the computer operating systems. Want to know where tech is going? Watch and see where Sony is going.

Its worth mentioning Mechwarrior Online has "character creation" second to none. Literally. Thats the mechbay. Although the Pilot is completely absent still. Known issue?

Both Activision and EA became terribly greedy recently - they both will ruin MWO even more. You still don't have 30 minutes deserter debuff for leaving some terrible match? Then we are going to you!

At least I walked away with tons of awesome screenshots, the exclusive mini, and a couple cool art books....

I got the collectors edition to, I'd sacrifice it all just for a game that's still going and still being invested in.
