Where did this information come from? The Mad Cat/Timber Wolf is considered one of the most successful omnimech designs, no faults or flaws in electronics ever showed up in any sourcebook or TRO, and in TT the chance to hit the cockpit was the same as for any other design. When was it ever considered a death trap?

Yeah, the "weakness" is called "not having munch tech." The Mad Cat has a much higher BV than the Atlas. If the Atlas was made with munch tech, it could look something like this...
"Atlas IIC" ... 100 tons, 65 kph top speed, XL engine, Endo Steel, 304 armor, 17 DHS, 4x ER Medium Lasers, LRM20 Artemis IV w/ 18, SRM6 w/ 15, Gauss Rifle w/ 24, Targeting Computer, ECM ... 2,711 BV.

First, the Timber Wolf is better because of Clantech. You cannot compare Clantech to Inner Sphere, clearly see that the munch beats the non-munch, and then boast about how you will kill people like it is the pilot rather than the technology.
Second, my 5-minute "Atlas IIC" has a 2,711 BV1 to the Timber Wolf Prime's 2,252. So...

Hunson.. I do not call it Munch as you seem to want to. i call it, what it is, technology that has been tweaked over 3 centuries because it was not LOST to pointless succession wars. The clans are superior in terms of warriors and technology, because they did not waste 300 years infighting and trashing the house. They actually kept moving forward. Battle Value is a pointless marker for me. You could have a BV of such a large % over me and I could still kick you from Strana Mechty to Terra and BACK if I am at one with my gear. Skill is where the fight is won or lost, not at the shiney baubles one brings. If a mech is piloted by a superior pilot, in a lesser machine, against a crappy pilot in a superior machine, my money is on experience every, single, TIME.
Funny thing is, you just made me think of something I did on Star Wars Galaxies many years ago as a Rebel Alliance Master Pilot. I mastered the B-Wing, was one of the deadliest pilots on my server in that bird. I took on and DESTROYED, solo, an Imperial Star Destroyer in my B-Wing in less than 1 minute, many many many many times. If you have played that game, you know just how hard this is in such a 'low value' ship, over ships with better maneuverability and smaller hitboxes like an A-Wing for example. BV isnt everything. SKILL is.

2. I still smile when I think of the Pilots in JSF's or Jedi Star Fighters who feared my B-Wing. For the record, the JSF <watch SW Episode 3, its the ship Obi-wan and Skywalker pilot at the start of the movie> is far more superior to even the Imperial Tie-Interceptor and JSF and would basically be the Star Wars equiv to say a Fire Moth, to the B-Wing as a Dire Wolf for the example to make sense.

I just think it would be awesome if you could be apart of the clan invasion instead of part of one of the innersphere's houses or factions. I never really been a fan of any of the factions in the innersphere....maybe the Terran Hegemony Alliance or something.
