<blinks> the IS mechs look too humanoid. Highlander as an example or this, or this as my last IS example. Then, look at the Clan mechs, not some fluffy design to look remotely humanoid, but, to channel what a battlemech really is, a big, dangerous warmachine. Examples include:This This and This.

If I remember correctly, they were planning on having a big clan invasion event.

I like the Atlas, but, it has its weaknesses like any other mech, and when I get my Timber Wolf, I will be more than happy to illuminate them for you, from all 3 of my effective ranges <evil grin and evil petting of the ubiquitous white fluffy cat>

the part that makes me laugh is how many people want that stupid timber wolf when in cannon most pilots hated it because of how much of a death trap it was, huge cockpit canopy thats easy to hit and it was constantly plagued by electonics bugs (fire control was terrible) oh and also its a design borrowed from "exosquad" so i wonder if theres gonna be another "harmony gold incident"

Where did this information come from? The Mad Cat/Timber Wolf is considered one of the most successful omnimech designs, no faults or flaws in electronics ever showed up in any sourcebook or TRO, and in TT the chance to hit the cockpit was the same as for any other design. When was it ever considered a death trap?

The Timber Wolf is one of the FEW Heavies to FORCE Assaults to rethink making a solo engagement of a Lone Timber Wolf.

Mad Cat is one of my favorite mechs. If I remember correctly it was also the first Clan mech to be discovered by the IS. Does this mean that it should be in the game, since we are in 3049, and that's when the Mad Cat was discovered.

Yeah, the "weakness" is called "not having munch tech." The Mad Cat has a much higher BV than the Atlas. If the Atlas was made with munch tech, it could look something like this...

"Atlas IIC" ... 100 tons, 65 kph top speed, XL engine, Endo Steel, 304 armor, 17 DHS, 4x ER Medium Lasers, LRM20 Artemis IV w/ 18, SRM6 w/ 15, Gauss Rifle w/ 24, Targeting Computer, ECM ... 2,711 BV.

the TImberWolf is a machine that is just flat out more effective than the Atlas, period. It is faster, better armed and better gunned than the Atlas, and its assault brother the MK2 is just purely evil. Even the Atlas IIC cannot compete with the Timber Wolf, just does not have the range or speed.

First, the Timber Wolf is better because of Clantech. You cannot compare Clantech to Inner Sphere, clearly see that the munch beats the non-munch, and then boast about how you will kill people like it is the pilot rather than the technology.

Second, my 5-minute "Atlas IIC" has a 2,711 BV1 to the Timber Wolf Prime's 2,252. So...

1 - No definite word on what will happen | 2 - next year. Salvage is out so I imagine capturing mechs is out as well. My guess is it'll have to do with your faction's ability to acquire mechs from the clans through conflict, your rank in said faction and cash on hand. Heres to guessing.

1 - Tee hee, thats not true at all.

2 - *wink wink*

Love being apart of a team that gets to hear firsthand news before others!

Hunson.. I do not call it Munch as you seem to want to. i call it, what it is, technology that has been tweaked over 3 centuries because it was not LOST to pointless succession wars. The clans are superior in terms of warriors and technology, because they did not waste 300 years infighting and trashing the house. They actually kept moving forward. Battle Value is a pointless marker for me. You could have a BV of such a large % over me and I could still kick you from Strana Mechty to Terra and BACK if I am at one with my gear. Skill is where the fight is won or lost, not at the shiney baubles one brings. If a mech is piloted by a superior pilot, in a lesser machine, against a crappy pilot in a superior machine, my money is on experience every, single, TIME.
Funny thing is, you just made me think of something I did on Star Wars Galaxies many years ago as a Rebel Alliance Master Pilot. I mastered the B-Wing, was one of the deadliest pilots on my server in that bird. I took on and DESTROYED, solo, an Imperial Star Destroyer in my B-Wing in less than 1 minute, many many many many times. If you have played that game, you know just how hard this is in such a 'low value' ship, over ships with better maneuverability and smaller hitboxes like an A-Wing for example. BV isnt everything. SKILL is.

small edit for 2 points of clarification: 1. I mean all of the technology, not specifically the Timber Wolf over such a long time, as the T. Wolf is just under a century in age.

2. I still smile when I think of the Pilots in JSF's or Jedi Star Fighters who feared my B-Wing. For the record, the JSF <watch SW Episode 3, its the ship Obi-wan and Skywalker pilot at the start of the movie> is far more superior to even the Imperial Tie-Interceptor and JSF and would basically be the Star Wars equiv to say a Fire Moth, to the B-Wing as a Dire Wolf for the example to make sense.

Whats the word on joining one of the clans? Is that gonna be something we will be able to do? Or is it gonna be NPC type stuff. Sorry if a similar post has been put up, I skimmed through these. And I admit I am not that informed on the gameplay of it all, gonna do some more research.

I just think it would be awesome if you could be apart of the clan invasion instead of part of one of the innersphere's houses or factions. I never really been a fan of any of the factions in the innersphere....maybe the Terran Hegemony Alliance or something.

Right now, there is no word, I think Paul or Bryan hinted that, atleast at first, they are purely NPC for the shock and Awe they will bring as they first hit us, but, I think, after that, we can join them, as to how, again, no word yet.

If they do allow players to join the clans when they invade, it would be a disaster for the IS, as people desert their house in droves to join clans due to their popularity. As for me, those Clanners can go back to periphery space where they came from. (and yes, I realize how hypocritical that is when I pilot what is essentially a clan mech.)
