12 of anything is pretty effective just due to synergy.
Having beaten the Crab Rush repeatedly the biggest problem is people bringing potato decks to FW.

It isn't. Its good, but not as strong as crabs. And we've beaten you plenty of times in crabs as well. Fun matches.

It's debatable, if anything I would think 12 assassin's would be the superior plat form. It's a perfect combination of speed/firepower/tankiness. Plus the raw amount of tonnage you're trading even if you technically "lose" the wave is insane. I mean if you're trading a 40 tonner for a clan heavy or assault it can literally end the game in your favor on wave one.
Bushwackers would be good, but they are a smidgen slow. being able to go 105+(faster on the assasin) can be a make or break in closing gaps, and catching people off guard.
