The Atlas load out is directed towards a varied load out which most mechs in the BT universe carried. A mix of short med and long rang weapons however in MWO thats all gone out the window and replaced by boating and slapping on weapons pretty much any where you feel like it. The Atlas in MWLL however is another story all together its brings a sense of fear when it arrives even at range people run from it in a duel you better know what you are doing because with the amount of armor it has it can pretty much go toe too toe with any thing and come out the victor. Due too its slimmer model like the BT version it can take a hell of a lot better allowing it too soak up massive amounts of damage and dish it right back out.

༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give Armor/Heat Reduction Quirks.

* The only Atlas with heat reduction is the Boar's Head.

"Well there's you mistake. Its supposed to be hard for an Atlas to go toe to toe with a Dire. I have no interest in giving my mech perks to level the playing field."

I think we all understood you the first time.

1. very hard to go against the dire wolf
2. I have no interest in giving my mech perks to level the playing field

Go ahead will give you the last word then move on, so the community can be heard.
Last time I posted here. I was under the impression I was IN the community. If I were not, I would not be able to reply to your posts. A community is not single minded.

You say the Atlas needs buffed. I have played Atlases since Closed Beta and ALWAYS found a way to win against "the OP of the month". Not all the time, but enough to know that a good pilot would be able to win often.

I don't run from Dire Wolves or Timber Wolves I go after them. and I smack em down often enough that I know the Atlas is fine as it is.

Bishop says I like an Up Hill Battle. And he's right, It's a challenge. I like to think I can rise to any challenge. So far, I have not been beaten. In that I mean I have never had to admit "I'm Beaten" by any tactic or build. I HAVE been beaten by better players than I am... but the gear? You can have a million dollars worth of stuff, but not have a clue how to use it. You can do better with it, but it still does not equalize you with actual competence.

For one thing, the "fear" an Atlas induced was often from it's appearance. It was designed to be a towering and grotesque image to strike fear into enemy pilots. Sure, being a 100 ton assault attributes to that as well, but most of its reputation was established from its appearance, not because it could face tank any assault in the universe with ease...because it couldn't (probably why Kerensky wanted it to rely on it's looks to help in the first place). It's just too bad that the fear of scary towering 100ton evil monster look doesn't translate well into a game.

Anyway, I think the big thing with the Atlas is its loadout anyway. It has a smattering of different weapon systems and doesn't specialize (a little bit ballistic, a few missiles, a smattering of energy, etc...). I think that makes it trickier to use (instead of piloting an assault with all energy or all ballistics).

This is why people struggle more with the Atlas I think. It probably also doesn't help that the Atlas's traditional long range weapon (LRM) isn't as effective in MWO. Structure and/or armor has already been buffed to help make up for this.

In any case, the Atlas was always a good assault, but it struck fear in pilots from looks and that doesn't translate to gaming as well. It also was a vicious melee mech which also doesn't translate to MWO. Overall, I don't think the Atlas needs more structure or armor. It just needs pilots to better manage multiple fire groups to effectively apply and maintain damage. It just isn't as easy to pilot as a laser or ballistic boat assault.

Nicely said, but don't expect any help in the solo que. I have been long enough here that if your team are not willing to work together you are screwed in a Atlas. No matter how well you pilot it. Been in that situation plenty of times.

The Atlas cannot operate effective without any teammembers. It needs backup, backup which many are not very giving it in order to shine on the battlefield.

With 12vs12 it is. Period.

8vs8 and the longer TTK is a different story. It felt different.

Personally I always thought it struck fear in pilots cause the writers said it did... But that could be just me.

Although the whole heat system in this game boggles my mind, I don't feel the Atlas needs a cooling buff. If I don't Alpha, pace/time my weapons right, I never shut down. But I'm not a patient man in battle so... Yeah I'm reactivating more than I'd like.

Atlast can't really pull out to cool off. Once you're out there you're out there for good. Atlas has pretty bad sustain unless you undergun yourself.

Armor buffs similar to what the Zeus got as well as the new Highlander/Beemer/Phract got would be most welcome. The Atlas, while not bad, isn't good either. Banshee does just about everything better aside from missiles. Atlas needs something to make it stand out from the rest of the assaults, aside from being 100 tons of mediocre.

Which is why I go with the hit harder style. If there isn't any cover, I will die. But if I can break Los even for a minute around a building or a hill. I'm golden.

I mostly go with a 10 dps LBX10(x2)ASRM6(x3) these days. Any laser I put is risky due to HSR and is just a waste of heat sadly.

Can I propose tying geometry and armour points together?

Lets say all mech sizes normalized to the Hunchback.
Any mech wider than hunchback will get a geometry multiplier bonus.

Example:
Hunchback torso is 10 meters. It has 50 points of armour at centre torso.
Atlas torso is 15 meters, and also has 50 points of armour at centre torso.
But the EFFECTIVE armour of Atlas centre torso is (15/10) * 50. So if the pilot puts more armour in Atlas torso (100 points of armour) then the Effective Armour of Atlas is 150 points at centre torso.

This might help buff bigger mechs like Atlas and Awesome.
And this would solve hit box issues with slimmer mechs like Stormcrow and Firestarter.

Doesn't matter how much armor we add. People will complain they are dying to fast. Most TT games last 2 minutes of in game time. Three minutes tops.

That is number of turns times 10 seconds. Not many Mechs last longer than 30 seconds of heavy damage.

You guys gotta be out of your mind with the comments I have read. Look at the one shot kill distance with the dire wolf and you can never pull that off with an atlas from the same distance.

NGNG Sean Land even indicated that it's a one shot kill from a dire wolf in the video below. The only way you get a one shot kill with an atlas you have to grind to the location ducking and weaving for cover then hope you get close enough without being spotted. The Atlas is too slow on the battlefield just to run up on somebody and that's why it needs an armor buff.

A lot of good pilots will not take out the Atlas unless they have a reliable team, it's not a solo mech to play.

I run mine 90% of the time and almost always in the solo queue. It's not as difficult as you make it out to be to get where you need to be in order to bring the weapons to bear.

It's not like you have powerful weapons in the arms of a Atlas. What is your loadout?

2LL, AC/20, and 3SRM4. The two LL are perfect for getting folk off high ridges and lights.
