You say this like its a bad thing. In Chess they are called Pawns!

"Do you keep dying early in matches with low damage and no kills yet you still win the round with some guy dealing 800-1,000+ damage while getting 3-6 kills? Congratulations! You've been Pawned!"

Chess doesn't have quirks and faulty HSR/Lagshield.

Each piece has their own abilities and have you seen the en passant? That looks like some wonky HSR stuff to me.

All depends on the number that form up into a group. I've been on teams down by 5 who won just because the last seven were in a single group and the other team had split into small groups or solo.

Thats the problem with 12v12... one person cant make much of a difference. In 8v8 a single person could kill like 4-5 mechs on their own and turn the tide of the game even if their team was 3 down.

But in 12v12 its impossible for one person to take on the whole enemy team themselves. 12v12 changed the game from a thinking mans shooter into a mob mentality deathball shooter. You either group up and focus fire with the rest of the mob or you lose.

We really need 4v4 and 8v8 games. The less mechs in a game the more player skill actually matters.

It's a team game, for crying out loud. The individual should be subordinate to it.

Using the same logic being used by people here, 1 vs. 1 should be the one and only game available.

Except it's not a team game.

Outside of the game status at the end (W/L) every other aspect of the game is purely solo. Your stats, your winnings, your XP; purely a function of how well you did, at the EXPENSE of the rest of your team. If it was shared, maybe there would be more teamwork.

Except theres only one team tactic in 12v12: deathballing. thats it.

if 12v12 added more depth to the game it would be different. 12v12 doesnt add tactical or strategic depth to the game though, it removes it

8v8 was still the perfect mix of teamwork and individual skill. it allowed players to play how they wanted. Lights could more easily run in open and assaults could tank better because there was 2/3rds as much focus fire. And teams could afford to split up and try different tactics because individual mechs mattered more...
