Usually play my favorite - Atlas DDC brawler. Occasionally K Crab, DW or TW.

Sometimes want a change and do some LRM lobbing - in my Warhawk.

3 X LRM 15 + A and 4X MPL

Did fairly well last night (sometimes do very well- 800-1200 dmg and handful of kills). However, was getting snide remarks about being a noob using a WH for LRM's..

Yes...yes... a WH is an assault. However,, there are 2 things to consider:

1) Are you choosing to take the role of an assault mech and select LRM's as your payload? Or
2) are you choosing to play as an LRM boat and want to find a chassis that is comfortable for you.

For me it's the latter - decent armor, speed, payload room...so why not? Is there a shortage of WH's in the store for other players who wish to be pure assaults? Is there a law being broken that I'm unaware of? It performs well and can move closer to the front lines and use LoS and the 4 MPLS as well.

Since beta, have used Catapults, Stalkers, Awesome 8R, TW etc. At the moment, this works for me.

Why do some people get their panties in a bunch over this, lol?

You know exactly why people get upset.
Assaults should be up front taking damage.
Heavies should be supporting them.
Mediums should be watching the sidesand flanking.
Lights should be supporting all the above.

If you deviate from this you need to "please uninstall the game" and "L2P n00b", etc..
Do not deviate from the formula... tactics and playstyle are OP, plz nerf....
Pure sarcasm that!
Just don't be that guy expecting your PUG team to hold locks for you and cry about the support your (probably) not going to get.

I'll be grinding King Crabs soonly and there's talk of using them as LRM boats.
Horses for courses I feel.
Assaults are brawlers, but this is purely my playstyle.

No problems here! The Warhawk Scudboat is one of my highest k/d builds:

WHK-SCUD

Worthy of note, I never hide behind my team with this build, always at the frontline at around 500 - 600m range from enemy for maximum missile efficiency & auxiliary pulse laser support, so I always absorb my fair share of enemy fire. Use the left side of my mech like a shield to improve brawling capabilities, after my 8 tons of ammo are used up. When used effectively, this mech can last me through the first two rounds of ComWar & rack up to six kills.

I always suggest people take T-Comps & pulse lasers as auxiliary weapons on a Clan lrm-boat, whenever possible. Some people have told me that the T-Comp VI + 3xMPL is a waste of space, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The T-Comp gives you extra fast info when paired with Active Probe & Target Info Gathering module, so I can know immediately whether or not it's worth firing missiles at a target. They could be seconds away from getting cored by one of my allies after all. Or, they could have full armour, in which case it's more worthwhile to wait for an ally to expose some internals before I fire, or even I myself can try punch some holes in the armour with my laser array. T-Comp also gives my laser array some deadly criticals when dealing with lights. I can't even count on my fingers and toes the number of spiders & firestarters I've surprised the #### out of, when I immediately blast a leg or an arm off. I don't bother with missile modules on this guy, as I said I'm usually well within the 1000m range anyways, and increased cooldown speed would only make my lrms overheat quicker. I equip all Target Decay and MPL Range to get the most out of my weaponry.

The Warhawk is an accepted LRM boat just like the Battlemaster 1S despite them both being assaults.

My King Crab 0000 is an LRM boat. 4 LRM15s and 4 Med Pulse. Basically the same but a LOT of ammo, probably slower, standard engine.

I've heard people get mad at me but then I'm (usually) wrecking face and then they shutup. Assault is a really broad category, like Heavy, etc. And within it, each mech is very different and each model. Before clans, I used my pretty baby (!) as a scout killer. I admit I used to get mad when I'd see DDC LRM boats. But if he did okay, then fine.

Swap 1 Laser to TAG and direct fire Assualt Boat is online. Negating ECM with TAG for direct fire makes for some devastating firepower.

Ran something similar while Mastering my WH's limited space on Warhawk makes it a touch annoying to equip but works just fine.

Its a waste of a good assault.

Battlemaster 1S,Awesome 8R and Warhawk on the other hand are built for that job,why use a 100-ton mech that has a dps of an Trebuchet?

Because:

Viking

Longbow

Salamander

Also a Warhawk is a fire support sniper mech. Why do you think it comes standard with a TC? Just because its an Assault mech it doesn't mean they're ALL built to assault up close. Awesome too has its primary weapons with a minimum range. Why brawl in a mech or fight from the front with a handy cap minimum range? Its just single minded thinking.

4xLRM15/2xERLL/8 tons/clan probe battle I just walked from with 900 damage, no kills (odd that..probably that weird little trebuchet who spent the whole match under my skirt and finished with 5kills) enough XP to finish off that LAST 21.5K module slot.
advance sensor/target decay/ERLL range modules

alpha the missiles if you're only getting locks for 5 seconds, chain if they're out in the open, or fire 2 pairs if you have multiple targets and are trying to repel invaders

So, yes. LRM warhawk is good and after 71 battles combined in all three variants, keeping the B specifically for that torso missile hard point, I can say the BEST thing you can do with this is/are the missile boat builds.

4ERPPC..no, ballistic this, that, no..torsos are spindly weak.
Tried the SRM boats...again, torsos and arms pop off this thing.
Tried the 3xLRM15/energy. Tried the 2xLRM20/2xLRM15, no. Tried the 4xLRM15/4MPL(or 4ML or 4SMPL)
its horrible as a brawler.
Its pretty much a horrible clan mech! Crippled by a torso you can't do anything with, hardpoints that are not flexible, no engine choice, no endo, no ferrous armor...THIS Is what it does, and well thankfully.
Its an assault, that can boat missiles, and snipe, AND at 71+ can hustle to or from danger.
No more than I'd load up a dire with missiles...or a crow with ballistics...this is the clans dam fine LRM boat.

just my .02 worth, your mileage may vary.

Tactics, you must stay with the group. I like to be around 600-700 from the enemy, and keep close to mediums and heavies. You keep the enemies head down with constant single fire salvo's allowing your group to advance.
If you call out "lock targets please" I will leg you. Nothing says inexperience faster than that stupid request, why not call out "please leg and core mechs for me"? Line of sight and target decay are your friends. Skip the tag unless you run CW.

Lights will eat you alive. If you wander off, you'll die, if you push ahead, you'll die, if you dont watch the minimap, you'll die, if you do not pay attention to your group and they leave, you'll die, this mech runs hot as hell, if you over heat while standing on that ridge lerming away, you'll die, if you constantly launch every time a red triangle appears for one second, you'll be out of ammo, and die. 2ERL are not enough to wipe the map.\
The LRM's keep them away, the LRM's allow you to whack an unseen fleeing enemy, ONE salvo of LRM's dumbfired between buildings can flush out enemy who think you got a lock somehow.

I think it is funny and ironic when people call LRM Boaters "Noobs" and "Learn to Play".

If the complainers were NOT noobs and had LEARNED HOW TO PLAY, they would NOT have died to an LRM Boat.

The good thing about the Warhawk is that it can do everything:

Full Lurm like you do,
for half the Lurm you get a full Laser Vomit to boot,
long range fire support with 4x Lrg Pulse or 4x Erppc
Brawling with a big Autocannon Srms and lasers
Or a nice Jack of all trades like what i run in CW: 2x Lrg Pulse 3x ERMed 3xStreak6 CAP

And for every playstyle you get decent quirks like ERPPC velocity / lrm srm spread / lbx spread / uac jam chance, etc...

Every time I hear "Wait for the assaults" I wonder how many are actually sporting lrms or are setup as snipers. Why wait for the assaults when they're likely to passively set up far from the main battle? A sad state indeed.

Wannabe famous? Learn to drive that WHK like a warrior and leave the lrms to the cats and crows.

Actually you can switch one of the LRM15 for an LRM20, giving you an LRM50. It helps to prevent ghost heat because of different reloading times, in the heat of a battle you might forget about this.

alot of people forget, assaults are not there for tanking damage, they are for assaulting, there is a HUGE difference, The assault mech should rarely be the first mech into the battle due to their lack of mobility making it just about impossible for them to retreat if they walk into a bad situation.

As far as the warhawk goes, ive used an LRM 45+artemis with 5 medium pulse lasers for a long time, it is quite frankly the single best setup the warhawk can get and is at its best burst damage around the 350m mark. This general setup can very easily rack up 800 damage or more and doesnt even need to be within line of sight to accumulate it.

Id also say its one of the best clan mechs overall, unlike most assaults the warhawk boasts extremely good manouverability in its prime variant

Warhawks are actually one of the commonly accepted LRM assault mechs. If anyone tells you you're being a noob or whatever, they don't know what their talking about. Warhawks are pretty flexible in their builds, and LRMs are perfectly viable especially since you at least have backup lazors that can do some solid damage

Yup the warhawk b is one of the best lurmboats in the game, its only marginally less good than the stalker in this regard, and any one trolling you for taking one out as a lrm platform is the noob! ;)

I was referring to the King Crab, mind you.

And "muh lore" is a shoddy excuse now that core gameplay has steered away from it.

You will get better results in a Hunchback 4J,Treb 7M,Awesome 8R,Battlemaster 1S and numerous other mechs actually built for the job.

Hey,
the Warhawk is my first assault mech since I started in the Beta.
It feels pretty strong with PPC aud Gauss, but the only build that provides me with good scores in most games, is this one:

Warhawk-B: 3x LRM 15 2x LPL
2,78 K/D rate in 40 matches
489 DMG/Game
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...31ad6fccf4def53

Best score up to now:

I dont give a shayte about the treb and hunchie with their fancy pans quirks

My whk has 4 lrm 10w, tag, one LPL and 3 Mpl. 1260 missiles. Say what you want. Its an insanely awesome mech. In a single cw match i took out 6 mechs and dealt 1800 damage with it. When the LRMs were depleted, i still jad My laser arsenal. With sufficient DHS to keep them firing.

The Warhawk is an outstanding Lrm capable assault. And worthy of using it

@ChillBill, It depends on different factors.

Part of the issue is design such as the original MWO LRM Boat, LRM80-100 Stalker with nothing else. Extremely slow, no backup weapons, highly vulnerable. Some people like me remember those times and dread seeing someone do it again. Another is the Awesome-8R Quad LRM15, I ran it and it is not for everyone with only 2-3 MLs if you get jumped by Lights plus bad turning making it hard to keep up. Now I have seen a guy recently who ran an interesting 8R using 2LLs and 2LRM15s, he seems to do well.

Part is where you are and what you are doing. You have those who take an Atlas DC and turn that into an LRM boat sitting in the back when not only could they be doing some tanking, their ECM can help the team at least in the mid range if not up front. I also still see today peolpe firing LRMs beyond max range having missile explode in the air or not knowing the maps and timing so they shoot loads of missiles into terrain. I even have opponents who still target me after I am under cover, I jsut sit there thinking how great it is they are wasting a lock and missile flights on me.

I even saw one bad one last night. I tried to give the guy a nice comment about his loadout, he gave me an attitude like some here talk about doing when they play LRM boat assault. Thing is, this guy had a Stalker LRM50, 2 LRM10 & 2 LRM15 nothing else. I was running a stock pod Nova-A, only 2 Energy hardpoints. He claimed he did better than me. End of match, I had over 300 damage, he had about 80.

It all depends on what you define as a LRM Boat and how you use it. Some builds called LRM boats just plain stink and if all you do is sit in the back, well.....
