Or maybe we could someday convince PGI to finally advance the #$%& timeline, because it's so anti-fun to keep it locked down. :\

And rework ECM/LRM already.
PGI balancing team moves slower than tortoises when it comes to weapon balance.

Add SRM2's and IS Small Lazors to that list. :\
Oh, and a SSRM redesign would be really really appreciated.

How would it make the game inaccessible to casuals? Anyone should be able to mount flamers and not have to deal with them being 99% useless.

I agree on those two, but how though?
IMO, SRM2s and Small Lasers are already DPS and heat efficient when compared with their tonnage. SL has range issue but if we buff the range more, then it will start to compete with ML. (perhaps lower the duration of SLs even more?) Same deal with SRM2. If its DPS is buffed, then SRM4 is gonna go out of phase, since SRM2 is already more accurate than SRM4, with only 25% less DPS while weighing half its tonnage.
Then there is the AC10. It sits in an awkward position between AC5(8 tons) and AC20(14 tons). By all accounts, AC10 should be 11 tons since it sits in the middle of the two: 14 - 8 = 6 / 2 = 3. However, the TT purists will have a field day with that notion.

Weight change in weapons and equipments would open up sooo many balancing options. Stuff like Command Console is still useless post buff.

They wouldn't do any damage, but they would make them laugh so hard they couldn't shoot straight.

For the SRM2, my favored idea is a pretty significant spread reduction. It has a puny alpha, so why not high precision? A faster cooldown would be silly and make it into a glorified machine gun, so that doesn't leave many other options...
For the SL, it's not as straightforward. I've wondered how they would be at their original heat level of 1 per shot. I've toyed around with increasing their damage to 3.5 instead. Jman I think suggested a modest range boost. Yeonne suggested a cooldown reduction. Maybe test all 4 of those in the PTS at the same time to see which one works out best.
I've also had ponderings about the AC/10...what we know is that PGI will never change the tonnage though. We have to find a way to make it worth that tonnage instead.
The AC/10's issue, IMO, is that it tries to be both a midrange gun and a brawly gun but without excelling at either, so I think PGI should decide to push it further in one of those directions. Maybe push it more towards midrange/skirmishy, because the AC/20 has brawling covered pretty well for just 2 tons more...
Something like a velocity bump would help its precision in midrange fights.

More mid-weight ballistics like TwentyOne said would also be great.

No fun being allowed is the only real holdup. There's actually a canon Zeus variant (ZEU-6Y) that has a stock Blazer and a Blazer quirk for it (Improved Cooling Jacket), and it's already available in the timeline! But PGI chose not to add it for some odd reason, even though this was our best opportunity to get it!
Insert sadface here.
