Its new, and its scary. :D

Need the old mech selection mainpage back, and visible Mechbay counter, and its golden.

Hell no... I'll come half way, make the mainpage Favorites page. (I admit, the selection window is too small. BUT due to handly sort tools finding mechs is actually faster for me)
Wall of mechs types can then favorite each and every mech, rest of us favorite the dozen or so they have fully fitted and like to drive/grind.

Edited your post for clarity.

SOME said they liked the wall of mechs better. Some have said they like the new method better. (BTW, I have never needed more than 15-20 seconds between matches to swap mechs in the new system.....and that's if I'm not 100% sure which I want to take. If I know, it's closer to 5 seconds. Way too long, indeed). Perhaps MORE like the new way? Hard to say since such a small percentage bother to post in the first place, and people are more likely to post what they dislike than for what they do like.

But you really can't make a claim like "SOME PLAYERS" said they liked this...and you didn't listen to US. What makes you think you are in the majority? And if you aren't, no offense, but why SHOULD they listen?

Honestly, while I like the new method, I got no bones with the old either. But I found your statement....... interesting.
I hated the Wall Of Mechs. That was my biggest complaint about the UI2.0 mechlab (followed closely by the Wall Of Engines). That both of these are gone makes my heart sing.

With that said, I do wish I could see an overview of all my mechs at once. I dearly love the Clan/IS filters, but I miss having a way to quickly scan all my mechs. I like to keep functioning builds on everything, but now and then pilfer engines and whatnot.

But, I'm much happier with the new way than The Wall.

But you had almost the same mech select in the previous UI. Why did the wall bother you so much when you could have used that? Granted, now the IS/CLAN addition is great, but still, nobody forced u to use the wall.

{sigh} Sounds like SOME people don't know what the meaning of SOME means. No need for edit. If you read everything I typed, along with some of the other post from other players, and not just did selective reading, you would have seen me say "some players LIKE the new layout." Obviously I was talking about people like you. And we can speculate till the end of time about who dose and dose not like the new layout, but what's that got to do with the price of butter? I'm asking for the option to pick and not have something you don't like forced on you. What's wrong with that? If you like it, that's fine, you don't mine digging through unnecessary layers for your mechs. But not everyone is like you sir. If we were then this topic would not exist. So far, players I have talked to do not like the "Select Mech" way to find their mechs and prefer the previous layout. And please don't try to tell me it's just as fast as the wall of mechs. It used to take ONE click and you're done.

And why should PGI listen?! Dude, you clearly don't have a business selling to the public...or maybe you did and it failed for some reason. Not listening to the people who you make your money from is the best way to go out of business. gg

1) it wasn't accessible directly from the mechlab.
2) it didn't have the Clan/IS filter. That's very important to me as I have so bloody many mechs in both factions. Even sorting The Wall by weight class, I'd still have to scroll through pages of mechs to find what I wanted.

How the hell can you defend this POS?

expand the quirks so you can like you know check out one of the MOST critical aspects of building your mech, BLOCKS THE LEFT LEG OF YOUR MECH IN THE EXPANDED VIEW.

OMFG, look at the real estate available and they managed to block half the mech with this ??? Are you kidding me? Are you seriously saying that this is acceptable? You do know that you know windows has managed to allow you to move and resize their gui since , i dunno, it first came out ? and PGI in 2015 still cannot?

you know what , NM, i take it all back, I have a car to sell you. It is seriously missing some important stuff like a rear view mirror and some wheels etc but hell you seem to an extremely low expectation of service so it would be fine for you..

I told them I liked the new selection method better. Which customer do they try to please? There is a pseudo form of the old select screen still there, just sort it by Class instead of Chassis and now your heavies display in a tiled mech mode.

but that takes a whole nother Click! That adds like....1.5 seconds to things! It's so intrusive!

the biggest issue... non scaling ui. Either up, or down. want to downsample your resolution? Enjoy SUPER TINY TEXT OF DOOM! Don't have a monitor that supports 1080p? Get dicked on getting to use expanded view.

Secondary biggest issue, Mech Select dropdown menu's... I hate it. I want my grid view back, with a toggle that let's me choose between IS, or CLAN, and weightclasses, that's it, just don't take away my grid view and I'd be happy with what we have now... but the lack of grid view is driving me absolutely bonkers.

Quirks are now the most crucial part of a mech eh? That right there tells volumes about what is really wrong with MWO atm.

Also...it blocks your left leg? OMG! Because the quirk list is all impòrtant, and you can't open it, read it, then close it and stuff ammo in that leg after!!!!!

First World Problems much?

I got no issue if they were enabled for both. Just tickles me that people need pictures now for everything. Words are bad, lol.

Although I feel bad for lower resolution users... I am completely ecstatic about the new mech lab.
Other than not being able to find a mech and mechbay count I have had no problems navigating around and working on mechs.

Before the select mech screen had no use and I did not use it. Now it actually has a purpose so I don't mind it.

I prefer looking at a glance to decide what I want to play Bishop. It's easier for me to look at a grid of my mechs [of which I have A TON... since you know, founder and all.] And select which one I want, I have doubles of some prime's, or CN9's, or HBK's. so it's easier to look on the grid to see which is which. Ect. Ect.

Clearly you love it, and if you could, you'd marry this new UI bishop, and hey, that's fine. But frankly, I'm not sold on it. Does it give a TON of information? Yes [assuming you can use expanded view] Is it an asset to the hardcore battletech fan who plays this game? Yes.

Is it good for the new player? No. A new player will be absolutely bombarded with information they don't understand how to process... and that's NOT a good thing.

This guy nailed it.

Although people not beiing able to see the expanded view when it was perfectly viewable in the PTS, is something that should be sorted. Don't effect me and I'm using a VERY old monitor (Cathode ray baby!!) but it needs to be fixed.

As I said I get having both. But for an example? Thanks to PGIs "generosity" I have 2 each of the Loyalty Atlas, King Crab, Centurion, etc. Visually the tiles told me nothing about which was which (unless I renamed them manually, something most new players wont do, and adds an extra step, one of the complaints here), and I would either have to remember which tile was which or manually select configure, then hit details.

For me, that was a heck of a lot slower than the current.

As I said, I would like to see it support both, and perhaps if enough people contact russ in an adult manner, he won't get stubborn and defensive about it, and maybe in a couple of patches it can be added. Maybe. But it's really a matter of personal preference and choice of aesthetics over functionality. Even if it takes an extra click and half a second for some mechs, it also shaves that time off finding others. That's why I say people are being a little over the top about it.

So far, I'm liking the new lab better than the last one, but not as much as the original. I've only toyed around with it for one night so far, so that opinion may change over time.

After spending about 120 seconds figuring out where everything is, i like it. THAT 120 seconds is the ONLY slowdown that I have over this.
New mech select screen in practice works great, had a faster time switching between mechs last night when i needed to. Building a mech, same.

I know new things can be scary for some people tho. Still, WAY too much QQing on the forums over it as far as I can tell.

Whenever you make a change to something, some people will like the new version, some will prefer the old.

I posted earlier about this but on reflection I really do think that with only a few modifications to the new select screen almost everyone will be happy:
  • persistent filters/views, so that you can expand everything and have it stay that way if that's your preference
  • some control over the size of the mech viewing area (i.e. if you have a large monitor, be able show more rows/columns in the grid view of mechs)
  • a few bits of additional info in the side pane or in an additional, optional side pane (equipped cockpit items, quirks)
  • make the filters switches toggles (so you can show just clan owned mechs, inner sphere+clan owned mechs, inner sphere+clan owned mechs AND trials, as you prefer -- and again, make these toggles persistent)
  • (a personal request) add a "show invalid mechs" filter toggle as well
I think with these few adjustments people who like the new mech select experience will still get it, and people who like to be able to look at eeeeverything will be able to do that too. After that, I think most arguments will be about the colour of the curtains...
