I prefer looking at a glance to decide what I want to play Bishop. It's easier for me to look at a grid of my mechs [of which I have A TON... since you know, founder and all.] And select which one I want, I have doubles of some prime's, or CN9's, or HBK's. so it's easier to look on the grid to see which is which. Ect. Ect.
Clearly you love it, and if you could, you'd marry this new UI bishop, and hey, that's fine. But frankly, I'm not sold on it. Does it give a TON of information? Yes [assuming you can use expanded view] Is it an asset to the hardcore battletech fan who plays this game? Yes.
Is it good for the new player? No. A new player will be absolutely bombarded with information they don't understand how to process... and that's NOT a good thing.
As I said I get having both. But for an example? Thanks to PGIs "generosity" I have 2 each of the Loyalty Atlas, King Crab, Centurion, etc. Visually the tiles told me nothing about which was which (unless I renamed them manually, something most new players wont do, and adds an extra step, one of the complaints here), and I would either have to remember which tile was which or manually select configure, then hit details.
For me, that was a heck of a lot slower than the current.
As I said, I would like to see it support both, and perhaps if enough people contact russ in an adult manner, he won't get stubborn and defensive about it, and maybe in a couple of patches it can be added. Maybe. But it's really a matter of personal preference and choice of aesthetics over functionality. Even if it takes an extra click and half a second for some mechs, it also shaves that time off finding others. That's why I say people are being a little over the top about it.
