I don't actually care how good or bad the mechlab is. The reason being that it won't allow me to try theory builds with parts I don't have spare, so I use smurfy instead and only have to use the actual lab briefly to put the final build together once.

What I do need to work quickly is selecting a mech and finding and applying the modules for it, because I do that much more often.

I would have thought PGI would be keen to allow simulated builds, since you could build something, drop in the training grounds with it and then be offered the option to save the mech by buying any parts it needs with C-bills or MC.

Smurfy's layout is the best.

I wonder if he got compensated for that since the UI just hit in game. Bet he didn't.

But i still prefer Smurfy over this one.

I fed back maturely and sensibly on the public test, losing the full grid view for selecting your 'mech is a deal breaker for me. Even if I hadn't been mature and sensible my feedback would have been just as justified and just as relevant regardless of if someone on the forums disapproved of my style.

It's just another in a long line of easily avoided PGI screw ups, and I'm bored of them now. I just requested refunds for all my outstanding pre-orders.

The mech selection screen is absolutely abysmal.

it's ugly, but fast, organized and functional. Would like to be able to choose the tablet view, but it's hardly a big deal. It's the same mech selection we have been using in CW and Private Lobbies for how long now?

I would like the drag and drop function of items to be smoother in expanded view. Can't change a item from one part to another. Just refuses too often. have to unmount and then drag it into new location.

I really like the tooltip/hoover info functions when over items though. Much more detailed usefull info.

Actually, you can. I swapped ammo just so. But like Smurfy, and the old mechlab, there appears to be sweet spots, or they won't "take".

Feedback thread was full of them. People didn't want the overview removed.

PGI did removed the overview.

Wat?

It's less bad than before, I'll give it that. Still quite a ways from qualifying as "good," however...

Sad to say, I doubt it will ever be "good" to your standards. At least as long as it says PGI.

Can't please everyone, what some don't like i do like and vice versa, but over all it's a huge huge improvement over the 2.0. I have flashback of the time i loved to make/tweak mechs in the game instead of the web.

Thanks Obama

Obama is Canadian now? Or didn't buy you a Hi Res Monitor? ;)

Actually, I get your complaint, just find that last part a bit odd, but for me? Bush, Obama? Politics in general? A bunch of suckers getting taken by the Special Interest groups, either way.

There's absolutely no reason to cram your mech selection into a tiny box like that and make it even more annoying by not having all your mechs show up at once, F- grade there. Also, the mech selection screen in CW and private lobbies gets an F- for the same reasons.

All of the info in the current mech selection screen could've been easily added to the proper mech selection screen where you don't have to scroll and click 5x as much, but no of course PGI has to make it a gigantic pain in the ass just to look through and select mechs.

cool so you don't like the Aesthetics. Believe it or not, there are those who do. They are probably accountant IRL, but I won't hold that against them. Regardless, it actually impacts the functionality not at all, except possibly making it faster to be organized. Would it be nice to have the option between? Sure. To claim the whole UI is a fail, and grab the lynchmob over it, especially when the Mechlab itself is 100x better? Kinda overdramatic.

Actually what I don't like is the functionality of the mech selection screen because it's garbage, but since you mention the aesthetics they're also pretty bad.

That is a HUGE load of crap, needing to scroll and click through menus every single god damn time just to select 1 mech is a catastrophic fail. Compare this to seeing all of your mechs presented to you at once and clicking one button to configure it, it does have an impact on functionality and it makes the functionality dogshit.

I didn't say the whole UI is a failure by the way because I'm not complaining about every single thing, and I do think the new expanded layout view is pretty good, but the mech selection screen is ass.

As I said smoother, better implementation. Just doesn't work too often enough making it simpler to just unmount and then remount in new location. Seems you need to put stuff in "black" locations for it to work not the "gray" locations.

And otherwise I liked the wall off mechs, mech selection. Faster too choose and pick mech for battle that way.
Noticed some bugs but they'll fix them as time goes. when changing mech you allways end up with the expanded view even if you had the modules selected on the previous mech. need to click another option and then back to get the proper menu again.

sorry..I have over 130 mechs. At no time were all my mechs presented at once.

Just because you seem to take offense at reading, or something, and now are making it personal because I *gasp* disagree with you, that's a you issue. Me? I find it super fast, super easy. Technically I click two more times, but clicking has nothing to do with speed.

You don't like it? Great. Your prerogative. But yeah, some of us DO find it faster and easier. Maybe not for changing one >Zeus to the Next, but it sure is faster for me to switch from a Zeus to my Urbie, or to find the modules or engines to swap around.

Also, sad news, apparently the Expanded view will never be scaled down for 1600*900, despite it being usable in 1400*900 on the Public Test Server...

Well, thanks Russ.

The whole "Thanks Obama" thing is a joke; people blame things on him that he couldn't have possibly had anything to do with.

Well, at least now we know that they don't make UI decisions around buying a lot of mechs.

I'm going to be the rebel here.

*I like the new Mech Select screen*

That's right, I said it.

Scrolling? Scrolling is for halfwits.

I've got a hundred odd mechs, I never scrolled before though. Now, it's even better.

I CAN FILTER THE MECH SELECT SCREEN BY IS OR CLAN. AT LAST. Weight class too! (I did that before, though, or I'd have to scroll forever to select mechs)

I'm so damn happy.

So happy.

it's slower than the old version, confuses "organized" with "micromanaged" and works much more slowly than the previous design. it's a terrible design to cling to and they should have been working to move the tiled design into lobbies instead this whole time.

which is funny because tiles are usually an awful choice of interface, but this is pretty much exactly what they're for.
