Enf-4P Is So Fun!

The ENF-4P is like a Yen-Lo-Wang on crack! When I first saw the specs I was disappointed it could not run jump jets, but after playing it my guess is that was a game balance move because it would just be too maneuverable to carry that AC20.
Here is how I ran the 4P. Once I have double basics unlocked (only a couple thousand XP away!) I am thinking of changing it a bit. I am going to either get rid of the extra DHS and add a 4th ton of ammo or drop the engine to and XL280. While working to speed tweak 97kph was plenty fast enough. I will have to try the 280 to see how different it feels running at 99kph and the difference the engine rating will cause in twisting. I doubt it will be noticeable.
So if you are looking for a fun medium with three extremely fun variants Enforcers are a great way to go!

That being said it seems less focused on the AC20 since its ballistic weapon quirks are smaller than the other similar mediums but compensated by bigger armor/structure buffs (85 extra hitpoints....)
I still think it should of had access to jump jets with diminished quirks because it would have made it more unique but that's just me.

You're also right that the pitch is better on the ENF, only 5 degrees but still better.

The pitch is better the cockpit seems to let you see a little more down low like that then the Cent's.
That build seems fun! Is this the Extra variant? Or one of the original 3 tho?

My loadout.
I actually really appreciate how slow the AC20 fires as compared to how fast it fires in the Hunchback. Its good fire control and I'm much more deliberate with how I place my shots. The extra armor buffs really make this thing shine, its just fast enough to get in and out of a fight and really lay some hurt on some enemies. Runs a tad warm, but nothing that can't be managed.

The 4P I'm coveting, but will have to wait until July to buy one from the gift store. Several guys from my unit have them and really like them. I'm jealous. They are pint sized mediums and the 4P looks to do what the YLW does, but maybe better.
July cant come soon enough!

That is a good question. I will still run my from time to time just because it was one of my favorite mechs in the novels. Kai Allard Liao made that thing sing. Although one thing that has always bothered me is there is no hatchet or triple strength myomer in MWO, which in the current time frame the YLW had been refitted with.

I'm trying it. I just happen to have an xl265 lying around! That extra ammo will rock. It seems like 95% of the time with 3 tons and abut 85% of the time with 4 tons I completely run out of ammo and still haven't lost the arm. So then I use it as a shield arm! LOL

I'll try to be clear because I felt like I was going mad. I started with this build:
ENF-4P - 4 ML, AC20
I was frustrated with a lot of heat issues, my fault, I should fire less often, but it was really annoying to have so much of a problem firing 4 Mediums and the AC/20.

I switched to this build after wanting to see if maybe I could salvage the mech in my eyes:
ENF-4P - 2 ML, AC20
Considering I am using an XL280 I expected BETTER response and feeling of speed than my YEN-LO-WANG. I found the opposite, while my Yen felt more agile, speedy and responsive. The Enforcer felt light years slower and less responsive. I am chalking most of issues up to mech effiencies not being totally unlocked. But man, I took out my elited Yen one match and everything seemed so much smoother than the Enforcer.
I want to like it, but I guess I need to max out the XP on it first before I can really say if I love the mech or not.

Having the 4 MLs for me though is a bonus. Especially if I can hold them on target for the full duration, which seems to be happening a lot lately.

The extra firepower is totally a bonus, I was really excited to have a bit more firepower on a 50-ton platform that does well with an XL engine. I was very disappointed to feel such a difference in the chassis operation. I'll plug through to get double basics tonight and see how I feel about the mech once it has its full potential unlocked.

First round I built her with 2 LPL, 2 ML, 2 MG. Was like ... meh...!!!!
2nd through last round was XL300, AC20, 3MPL, 21 round ammo, and averaged over 450 damage with multiple kills most rounds.
That AC20 is just so good on this chassis. I used modules for the MPL because I wanted to sparingly fire off the AC20 rounds. Like always, patience and positioning is key with any medium IS chassis.
But I did well, won more than I lost, and really contributed a high level to my team.
I like the 4P.

it will obviously compare to a YLW. Thats the most obvious, so i will run them down for people. Note: I bought and mastered YLW in open beta.
Speed: Pretty comparable. Enforcer has a higher ceiling, but does so at cost of ammo, firepower, or heat. Usually, I would say heat- no point running an AC20 without enough ammo, and people are going to put 4 ML in, because they can. In general think people will see the new Enforcer running maybe 5-10 KPH faster then a YLW, but also running hotter. IMO, I love this, as it makes the skill cieling higher at the same time. Expect to see lots of overheating bads when the thing comes out for c-bills.
Agility: Not the same as speed, but because it partly is based on engine rating, it is related. YLW has some monster twist quirks. it needs them more then the Enforcer. Partly, because the YLW requires ue of the left arm for defense. Enforcer rolls dmg better across all 3 torsos. YLW has no lower arm actuator. Enforcer does. NET RESULT: kind of a wash. YLW can certainly twist to recieve fire wherever it decides to. Enforcer cant, but really it rolls dmg pretty easy anyway. YLW can Zombie. This would be a bigger deal like a year and a half ago. nowdays a 2ML stick is only a threat for the last 30 seconds of a match when the leftovers are all cored already. Otherwise, a zombie dies from a 70 point alpha strike just like anything else.
Engines: Enfrcer can run an XL. this is where some of the speed comes from, and the somewhat comparable agility. YLW, I mean you can, but seems ill advised unless some thing has changed on Centurians that I dont know about. Again, allows a higher skill ceiling, more speed and firepower but XL penalty.
Firepower: Enforcer can mount two extra ML, and all the heat that includes, but nothing in CT. So no zombie, and another reason to XL the thing. HOWEVER, there is some room for argument if you are grand master supreme at dmg spread and sword and board, losing the right side on enfrcer means you lost 20 dmg, but you still have 20 dmg in lasers. Same for left. IMO, this lowers the ceiling for overall match scores, but i think some players would prefer that strategy- slower and more controled dmg spread. YLW, dat AC20. it is pret y much life though. Lose that arm and you get to pew pew ten dmg till someone gets annoyed. The difference between 2 and 4 ML? One is a complete loadout on some lights, and the other isnt when considering firepower.
tactics: Same, I mean, flank and gank, fringe skirmisher looking for those unwary enemy pilots for those dastardly back shots and srprz alpha blasts into their face from around a corner. Both excel at this, provided you put that XL in the enforcer. STD engine enfrcer IMO would play more like that support medium style, hang around the big boys and defend them and focus their targets.
OVERALL: YLW, its the classic. it has a lower ceiling IMO, but likely a higher starting point. So it is easier to get in and figure out, partly because of loadout limitations- but put another way, it is streamlined into this "style", a well oiled mech destruction machine rocking that AC20. Less prone to overheats then the enforcer, for sure, and cheaper to actually build mostly because STD engine. Enforcer, it is going to find it's crowd. te ceiling is higher for skill, heat is more of an issue, the 4 ML arent all in one location(arm/torso) so convergence is a factor(arm lock removes a good deal of the "ease of aiming" the ac20) and in general you will need to know how to play ninja better then the YLW because a DWF alpha/gauss splat will end you if it hits a ST. Match score however, has a higher potential because of the higher firepower.
One other thing- YLW does better when in complete control of its location vs the enemy team. You get a few mechs on the wrong side of you, preeeetty hard to protect that arm. Enforcer rolls dmg rather then arm shielding, so it can handle it slightly better. You still dont want to lose that arm, but IMO the arm hitbox isnt quite as prominent on Enforcer as the centurian, prolly cause the enforcer is so rolly polly pudgie pie round vs the slim and mean Centurian profile.
Also, don't forget the YLW hero status for c-bills.
In the end, both will have a place, and while similar they offer enough differences the new enforcer doesnt obsolete the YLW out of the gate. If you have the skill, the Enforcer will surpass performance of a YLW. But it is a steep curve considering the heat/XL/convergence hurdles to overcome.
