But the joystick gurus seem to be elsewhere...

My question is about setting up joysticks, I've searched around and found alot of writings by Loc Nar regarding Zero Order Absolute controls, but cant find anything on how to properly set that up.

Just in case my terminology is off, basically I'm seeking how to set up a joystick to have 1 for 1 inputs, if I move the stick half way to the right, my torso twist to half travel. If I move the stick to 75% to the left, my torso twists to 75% to the left, full stop on the stick = full twist, etc etc.

If there is a thread or document with instructions on how to do this, or an XML string already available, please help a fellow Mechwarrior out, and share it on this thread.

Thanks in advance!

you should post the type of stick you are using, i just set mine with the ingame controller settings but some people use 'autohotkey' a 3rd part program and your stick might have its own supported program like TARGET for thrustmaster.

Thank you for the reply, I'm running twin T16000m and I bound them from within MWO thus far.

I currently have the left stick bound to the legs and the right stick to the torso (twist and pitch), but I dont like how the twist and pitch is a relative movement, where I move the stick to the right and the torso traverses until stick is centered, then torso stays where it's at. I want it so that when I put the stick 50% to the right, the torso twists and stops at 50%, I let go of the stick (springs back to center) and the torso returns to center.

How can I set it up to control in this fashion?

Is that even possible with the control system? Near as I can tell its a pressure on, pressure off set up.

I don't have a lot of joystic experience, but its basically just midi and macros - my guess is that you are going to have to set up some macros with some programming statements.

From what I've read on these forums, I think the proper term is Zero Order Absolute controls, and PGI has incorporated it in, it’s just a matter of how do I go about binding it?

If your talking about 99% of sticks on the market your absolutely correct. what the OP is discussing is a mouse like zero order stick.

Something along the likes of the holy grail Steel battalion(dual Gimbal), but able to run on a modern system. I know that someone on the forums has hand made a zero order stick as well.

I wish Razor didn't back out of the custom stick they were developing for MWO :(, but unless you make one or mod a Steel Battalion stick bro, I am afraid you are not going to have much luck with this game.

They t-1600 needs some scripts to get rid of some bad dead zoning. Ill try to find them for you, but at least its zero order. (do not enable analog joystick support, as that's for first order controllers).

^^^^ what he said.

If you mean running 98% of the joysticks to aim and fire with/ move your torso you would be right. I have tried to use several Non, zero order sticks that are cheaper, and aiming and hitting a target is beyond hard with them. However, I have several flight sticks that I have modded, taken apart and cut the shaft and attached the stick in a horizontal position, just like a throttle stick and use it for leg movement/foward and back/ and turning my legs. The one I am using now is a Logitech 3D pro, and I have 6 buttons to work with on my left hand right on the stick, and I have the middle toggle button that has 4 buttons that can be programed to my liking. Also have 6 more buttons on the base of the flight stick.

I use a perixx MX2000II gaming mouse for aiming and shooting/torso movement. With this set up, I find that I have just enough buttons to play my idle load outs and I mean just enough. I can't even imagine going back to a keyboard setup over what I am using right now, IMO, big disadvantage. I would love to invest into a good Zero order stick, and use a true throttle stick for forward/reverse, and use foot peddles for left and right leg movement, and aim/torso twist with the Zero order stick. It really is to bad this is not really supported in this game, as I want to make a simpit at some point, and this would be my ideal setup for such a thing.

I've been playing MWO with M/Kbd since June of 2012. And I don't disagree on your assessment. I'm a casual player and just want to enjoy playing, M/Kbd just doesn't give me the enjoyment I'm hoping for. And what Reign is referring to is what I am seeking.

Here is some quick reading to describe what Zero Order Absolute controls is: http://mwomercs.com/...ls-demystified/

Although wishful thinking, as well as CIG already has something in the works, but it would be nice if PGI partnered with CIG and approached Razor to resurrect the Mek-Fu/Artemis.

I tried using a logitech force 3d pro a while back, didn't work too well.

Funny enough, A gamecube controller with a usb adapter worked perfectly....just a little bit janky to control.

Keyboard and 2button mouse is what I used for years, now I have a 4 button mouse and things are crazy!

Don't mean you any frustration, but I have concluded that joysticks aren't as easy to aim and fire with, even those special joysticks that are like a keyboard and mouse...just use a keyboard and mouse.

In the 90s I played Mechwarrior with a Keyboard and Mouse occasionally going to a Joystick AND MOUSE. For precise aim mice work better than most joysticks so I only ever used the joystick for movement.

For shooting and aiming it sucks..... for movement of the legs...turning, and throttle it works like a charm. ;)

So does anyone have or know of any up-to-date instructions or guides on setting up a joystick as Absolute Zero Order control?
