Why not let Alex run wild and make an all new Mech chassis?

Unseen, Reseen, lawsuits, Harmony Gold, ect, ect.

OK, even I'm sick to death of that situation that I don't want anything to do with it.

I would actually prefer to let Alex Inglasis have a free hand and come up with some new Mechs that fill similar roles, like a twin PPC heavy mech.

Im sure they intend to let him do this eventualy, but for canon's sake and for the games sake i think their going to start off with trademark mechs and ones that people will immediatly recognise.
(they hinted at this somewhere but i realy dont feel like finding it, thanks in advance if someone actualy knows where it is or posts it for me.)

Why don't we make all the fans favorite mechs first, and then do pet projects later? Sound good?

There's no need for new mechs. I'm sure you can find a variant among the existing ones that can fill any role.

Simply put, because there are already waaaay too many cannon 'mechs as is. Also, the kind of magic he does to some of these 'mechs make them practically new, anyway.

There is mention of the unseen in the developer Q&A1. It still doesn't really say "yes" or "no" but from the tone of the answers I'm suspecting they just won't be in the game.

Oh HELL no. There are several hundred mech chassis between the IS and Clan, we don't need more additions to the canon, hell, MW4 did more than enough damage with its new designs, we don't need any more.

There are, from what I can tell, 254 different IS chassis published in Technical Readouts. I can see off hand a few holes in this list, too, so there are actually more this includes the "unseen" or "reseen", whever you want to call them; it does not consider variants to be different unless they have a mark number, I.E. The Enforcer III is distinct from the Enforcer.

There are plenty of canon designs. Get all of them into the game first, then start worrying about 'new' designs.

EDIT: identified that I meant 254 IS chassis, I did not count Clan chassis yet.

EDIT 2: about 140 canon Clan Mechs. That's almost 400 chasis to bring out (though naturally several of both sets are post-3050 chassis).

Besides, there's a twin PPC mech in that weight range we're all waiting for... Hatamoto Chi. It debuted in 3040.

What is most important to me is that the Mech designs are modern, functional, and look reasonably attractive. As long as there are no terribad 70s style mars space-invader designs like I often see while browsing through the SARNA database it's all good. So far PGI seems to be putting all the right touches on the Mech designs: functional and pretty.

And I see no problem at all with new Mechs from PGI, I am sure they can come up with some brilliant designs contrary to what many of the Battletech fundamentalists think. I am also sure that they will introduce new Mechs if/when the game establishes itself in the near future.

I like the idea. It gives Alex a chance to make a permanent mark on Battletech in the same vein Mektek did with the canonized Diemos (which I thought was a great looking 'Mech).

He seems to be an able artist. On most of his "interpretations" I think I can agree on. I think most able artist are even doing some art in their leisure time so maybe he is already drawing a new Marauder...

*dangerous terrain Alex dangerous terrain* .....

why create something new if what we have has not yet been converted he can have fun with remaking old designs I think the "new" can be done be dedicated amateurs (and no amateur does not mean bad):

Actually, I think it's impossible to stop any art dude from 'running wild'. I'm willing to bet that Alex already has a megaton of designs stashed away, just waiting for a moment like this. Realistically speaking, all the Unseens are gonna haunt this game whenever HG decides to take a stab at it. The only lasting longterm solution that I'm seeing right now is to get rid of HG completely. Legally of course. They claim certain rights for the Unseen, so let them have the old stuff. I'm sure Alex can improve on them as he did with the Centurion, Catapult and Atlas. Letting him 'run wild' as you put it is a win-win situation, if you consider all things. Even so, I have seen other artists in this forum making moves into that direction and if I read our man right, he is well aware of the competiton and more than willing to excel.

ok my 3 cents:
well as long as it keeps the intended functionality of the unseens design,ie archers lrm support role w/the armer to backit up/its feel of doing what its intended to who cares if it looks just the same?!
i want a locust for its speed and small size, and its verients more then anything else as those are what makes it a locust most!
if it wines up looking a little like a jenner soo what i can still play it in this game and look at the old art work in any of my source books no biggy for me.

This is the sort of thing I would like to see for a cash store mech if there are any, as long as the hardpoints are balanced of course. I would never want to see someone have to pay real dollars to play their favourite mech but a div designed mech doesn't have that problem.

Redesigning the old mech designs makes them practically new anyway.

btw some twin PPC mechs:

Thug (80t)
Hatamoto-Chi (80t)
Crab CRB-30 (50t)
Blackjack BJ-3 (45t)
Ostsol OTL-4F (60t)

etc.

How deep is Catalysts involvement? They could always get the blessing to create a new canon mech.
