@OP: And this is why I don't participate. You don't have to have the perfect match, you have to have 10 perfect matches. Since the tournament lasts a whole weekend, people are just playing endlessly to get the kind of matches that only happen once in a while for most people. It comes down to 50% skill and 50% willingness to just sit in your underwear a whole weekend, shooting robots and eating delivery pizza while drinking Gatorade.

<sigh>

I stand corrected. 33% skill, 33% willingness to waste a weekend and 33% having other friends on the internet who help you win a robot shooting contest to get that 2 dollar reward.

And if you participate or not you get the joy of all the bad behavior these stupid tourneys bring.

4 and trying to break into the top 3 now.

Still soloing.

Total I've done 19 matches today. (for the entire event so far too)

I'm going to need like 2 more great games for the #3 spot.

For #1.... I'm going to need Perfect Matches.
Keep in mind 3 or 4 of my matches are 5 kill or more games.

How are you guys checking your status to see where you are on the leaderboard if you are below top 50?

FTFY ;)

(regarding trolling in a commando)

LOL, yes that's for sure!

Ending the match with 3/4k and 5-600 dmg in a commando.... I wonder my face and smile are like the (in)famous troll face! :D

Why get the oxide when you can get the.huggin?
Why take the ilya when you can take an ecm phat with better quirks?

Oxide aside, because it's all about the Benjamins.

Edit, for anyone that has helped me get here to #3, via pugging in the solo ques.

You guys rock. Lets see if we can get to #2 and then #1!

higher alpha potential, rather useful for those who can actually aim, and thus kill your DPS chugging Huginn.

Yes you do need 10 matches with:

.: 900+ damage done
.: 2+ solo kills
.: 5+ most damage dealt
.: 4+ killing blow, 8+ assists

Winning & surviving are good bonus points, if you lose the match but get an extra kill that would make up for the loss.

This would net you about 350 per match. Get 10 of these to get your 3500 points.

Focus on solo matches, weak pilots on your side mean weak pilots on their side too. Kill weak passive pilots last!

My credentials (if its important to you):

Well that's not true, is it? Only solo matches count for Tournaments.

I find that assumption "willingness to spend entire weekend in front of the computer" to be false as well, but I completely understand why you made that assumption. I had the same assumption too! I even tried it for a few hours. The results weren't very good.

The best matches were those when you've had a good day of activity after jogging, talking a drive and walk with the wife, after a game of frisbee, and so on. It puts your mind in a different position, you play the game happy and you focus better. You focus on the more important things instead of finding other people's flaws or how this and that could have gone better if that guy had done this. No these things will get you stressed out and you won't be able to focus and you won't be able to play well and you will be blaming people for their flaws and just get you frustrated as you prepare for the next match and looking for other players names in the Drop List that could hamper your game.

Get rested, get in a good mood. And you will be playing at the top of your game.

p/s I don't deny that someone in their underware could have got top scores too.. still.

p/s Apparently you are correct Group fights do count for points in this Tournament. In previous Tournaments only solo matches count.

Same applies to pvp in other games too, or most anything for that matter.
Get good and relaxed first. take frequent breaks.

still won't account for the MM/Elo system MWO uses. I've basically been on (approximate) 20 up/20 down cycles in this game since Elo was introduced. Only way to somewhat mitigate it, has been to pick low population times during the week, as it it seems early day USA time has weaker competition in general than prime time USA time. So sometimes I have broken streaks that way. Usually I just have to switch weight classes, and run the affected weight class in small doses to avoid frustration, until the Elo YoYo reverse trajectory.

I find it the reverse actually.
Most of the derps load up on prime time. I prefer earlier play, at least on the weekends. Prime time is usually when I start running into TDRs that have 2 LRM 15s and GRs, with XL engines for example.

My proposal on how to fix this. It has garnered exactly zero attention.

Flat out not true. I can vouch for many of the guys you see on the top of leaderboard events - I run into them in solo queue very frequently, esp. when I'm also competing.

Manage to claw my way to 26th, but dropped back down to 30th this morning. What I really wanted was the Commando stute, but I doubt I'll make it into 10th or better.
