Ive been playing forever on a crappy desktop with a graphics emulator, that will only get 8fps on the lowest settings.(whay even play, right.). Im upgrading soon and have $500 to spend, The rig Im looking at has an AMD FX 6300 hexcore, 3.5 Mhz, 8 G DDR3, and a Nvidea GTX 750 ti card. How much of a FPS jump can I expect?

Except a big fat no on that duel core. There are New recent PC games that refuse to even launch on duel core PC's. Need to add another 100$ to that to get an entry level I5.

what's your resolution? with that rig you will get ... ugh around 50-60 at medium, possibly high, with 1920*1080

i have 45-60 with low settings on that resolution with gtx 750 (not ti) and amd quadracore 3.4 ghz

mwo is a resource greedy game

dual core is a big no for this game, not with pgi quality optimization, also you forget to add a cooler

You've apparently stumbled in from a general gaming forum. Most games (including most modern AAA titles) will launch with a dual core and have no problems running on them (especially the Haswell-based ones) because games are not generally CPU-bound. Also, OP said nothing about playing other games.

  • Got a case, or a HDD we can recycle?
  • Can you name any other games coming out within the next two years we should worry about?
  • How hot does you place get, worst-case scenario?

My wife plays WOW and would like that to improve, most all the other games I play are off of GOG so no worries there. This is my one vice. If I get 50-60 on low or med qual, Id be super happy. Ive been playing on the lowest res and prob still will.

You can definitely bump up the resolution and settings with the proposed build by Letto above. Pretty sure it allows for 40-60fps on medium settings at 1920x1080 (as long as you're willing to overclock the CPU in that build - it's overclockability is the reason for choosing it).

I don't know why I thought I'd trust this guys current PSU.

And what make y'all think this gent is into overclocking?

We think he's into overclocking because we hate people that aren't into overclocking so everybody must conform to what we like. You know, or we can set you up with a time to talk to cousin Vinny.

I was pretty sure we had established quite firmly that MWO likes IPC and clock speed more than the amount of cores (at least 8 cores performs no better than 6 cores, and I think there's no difference between 6 and 4 either when we're talking about Haswell chips + MWO).

Yeah: Haswell Cores are Best Cores, but two vs. three Modules @ ~4.7GHZ? Four @ 5GHz?

Pretty sure the Pentium K would have won a few months back; now it would be close. Maybe still the pentium just about...Because FX CPU's suck for single core performance.

Im not overclocking anything. I chose the 750ti card cause its Maxwell design is quite efficient. other than that. I haven't put that much thought into it. im not building a rig. im buying one premade and slapping a card in it. the price is 500 delivered to my front door. it should be here today! and only one of you actually answered my question.

Quick story: I built a new rig 12 months ago, with a FX8350 and a GTX760, and I only got 20fps while in a brawl. Fast forward to 2 months ago, when I got fed up and swapped in a 4690K, and kept the GTX760. Boom! 70+fps.

They didn't answer your specific question because they knew better. In MWO, Intel > AMD.

I wish you good luck with your build. You'll probably need it.

Not to steal Goose's thunder (love me some science!), but the sys specs caught my eye - it just so happens I have a machine sitting around with a very similar build, so....OFF TO SCIENCE! (I personally despise the guessing game - why not see how an ACTUAL machine performs eh?)

The difference is...I enjoy overclocking. So, here's my FX-6300 running at 4.7 GHz - which I've found to be necessary in MWO to even remotely compete with Intel/Haswell CPUs. You want to know how much of a difference you can expect? Well, here's an example of what your system *could* be capable of. And no, I don't really feel like testing it at stock settings - at least not right now :)

Here's a frametime capture of a multiplayer round on Frozen City Night. Somewhat of a best-case scenario, that map always seems to run a little smoother for me. Most frames are under that magic 16.7 ms mark (corresponds to 60fps, IIRC), so it's quite playable. Max framerate hit 91 FPS, but the majority of frames were right at 59, with a few spikes down to a minimum of 43.

Which is good. It shows that the changes PGI have made have had an effect. But he has no plans to overclock so he won't achieve that per core performance mark.

Maybe if you had stated you had already brought it; seeing as the OP stated you were looking at it people have given you better options.

Build>Prebuilt=Better Quality, Likely Cheaper & Proudness to say this is the Computer You Built!
Big Mistake buying a Prebuilt, Bigger Mistake going AMD instead of Intel.
Example of a $500 Intel Prebuilt vs Build:
