I used to make sure to carry one when piloting a 'mech with a Gauss Rifle but nowadays I don't bother anymore because I dislike being tunnel vision'ed and more often than not, 2x magnification just suffices for most purposes. Mind you that I play with 12.5" screen (old 2570p Elitebook) and I think people playing with more than 24" monitor must be pretty happy with their screen size to ditch the adv. zoom module.

I do still carry one however, for my Jäger and King Crab because the ability to hit accurately with their dual Gauss Rifles means a lot.

So what do you think about the adv. zoom module? When do you use it?

It was the first module I bought and the first module I retired. I've decided that if something is so far away that I need to use a zoom module to hit it accurately, then I'm not dealing full damage to it anyways. Typically a waste of a module slot, in my opinion.

When I have room for it.

Radar deprivation takes first slot always for me.

I use it at long range with low DPI where your ret and the weapon effect can actually block out what you are shooting. Or I might use it to verify what I'm really seeing in cluttered terrain.

Under 600m though most of the time I find it faster to just use the 2x if trading at that range. But then again I'm not someone that needs radar dep on everything so thats +1 free slot that can be used for a zoom or whatever fits the role the mech is made to play.

I ♡ adv zoom. I have an origin 17x 17. What ever screen size. It makes me squint a lot. Using the adv zoom releaves the tension in my eyes for sure.

It's my module of choice for any mech carrying a weapon system with more than 400m of effective range.

Yeah, I find it to be mandatory for my dual gauss mechs and PPC boats such as the AWS-8Q and WHK-PRIME.

Being able to use the scroll wheel on my mouse to zoom in and out makes the Advanced Zoom a lot less risky to use than when I had to use the keyboard.

I use the advanced zoom module for seeing the cockpit pixels to line up head shots at around 600-700 meters and to increase the size of hit boxes to hold my cross hairs on.

This is a terrible attitude to have. Since the entire way MWO is won is by doing more damage to the enemy team than they do to your team. Any time you can damage an enemy mech and arnt damaged in return its a good thing. Even if its only a little damage.

I have issues hitting things at ranges beyond 500 meters, I often make sure to carry 1 enhance zoom on most range builds.

Depends on the build, I get good use out of it with some mechs with long range weapon systems

Usually more trouble than its worth for me. Having Radar Derp/Seismic/Target info is just better.

When the enemy is at long range with a cluttered dark background behind them it's a usefull module to have.
Take Forest Colony for example. When sniping early on in the match the zoom module is vital.

I always take Radar Dero first, it is live saver. Advanced Zoom I will test with Range Modul for my Dual Gauus builds

It's mandatory on my AWS-9M, along with Seismic. If it had one more mech module slot, I would throw in radar deprivation as well.

Advanced zoom on any mech that can fire 400m or more.
Radar derp comes in second
Seismic comes in third

I have 8 or 9 Advanced zooms in use.

its not funny, that all the rest modules (10+) are totaly not worth it. bad balance.

Target Info gathering comes first for me over even Radar Dep. Seismic is okay too I guess.
Zoom is a situational thing to have on mechs that can benefit from it and when I'm too cheap to shell out cbills for one of the others.
