I really like this idea, being a huge music fan. Who knows, maybe DarkSParcs (sp?) will want to get in on this. When you get the station solidified, please let me know?

I'll definitely keep the community updated. I'm hammering out some bugs with airtime right now. It's the scheduler that allows me to say "Play NGNG Podcast 5 at 6pm, then play x songs for the next hour, then play a 30 sec jingle, etc.

Hopefully I'll have a lot of this migrated and sorted out by next week. Though it helps to have people sample it and tell me hot or cold ;)

Compatibility with VLC!! I'm sold!

Love how you are already planning to do IC News.

Please have some In-Universe Jingles, as that would be icing on the cake for me.

Windows Media Player just sits there. I went by your directions, and you have to right-click in the bars on top of the WMP window, not just anywhere. Am I missing something?

That's the plan ;)

I was able to reproduce your problem. I actually switched to ogg vorbis because it's free (MP3 encoding requires a license and doesn't pass metadata in a way vlc or winamp recognizes by default). Microsoft doesn't like to acknowledge the open source crowd, so they didn't bother adding free .ogg codecs.

The good news is that there is a super easy fix:

Go to the xiph.org website and download the Directshow filters here and simply install them. Once you're finished, open media player and open the url as before (except you have to press play to start the music).

However, I don't really recommend WMP because it is terrible at streaming data and is a bit buggy in general.

Hope that helps!

Nice!

I have a streaming music internet radio station used for role playing and general fantasy ambiance. It uses Winamp streaming client from a little pc under my desk at home. I have it set for 64kbps stereo so its easy on my bandwidth and still sounds good. Im running about 200 music tracks from movies like Lord of the Rings and Gladiator, groups like Dead Can Dance, and game sound tracks like from Age of Conan and others. Fun, easy, and free.

That's all licensed music. You can actually get in some pretty serious trouble for making a live stream out of it :/

Thank you for this. I've never really had a reason to use my internet radio. Now I do. You're my hero right now.

It's less than 5 minutes from beginning to end, assuming you aren't starting vlc or winamp 0.o.

I added a list of artists to the main post though.

You mentioned browser support isn't final, and I found that I did have to refresh after each song in firefox - in chrome, though, it cycles fine. Keep up the great work, we're loving all the excellent community work here. It's inspiring to see.

Thanks for all the positive feedback! It's also good to see the developers this involved in the community. I think it goes a long way to prove their dedication to the game and to the players.

Keep up the good work guys!
