If it he had an ERPPC, I would have let him play... But then again when you powered down you sealed your fate by not typing a single thing to your team... Your team was right to rat you out.

I had PPC, 2xML, 5xLRM5; and not a second to explain why I shut down. I was focused to survive and fight and did not expect anything like that.

I found General Chat to be overflowing with spam / threats / tantrums, so I just decided to intentionally disable it for good. I wish I hadn't felt the need to do that honestly. I remember it being so much friendlier in Closed Beta.

I sometimes wonder if I would like it if the Solo Que for Assault / Conquest / Skirmish modes, and ONLY the Solo Que, disabled General Chat & ALL dead player chat (voice included). Perhaps the dead could still communicate, but only with other dead players. Not a clue how PGI feels about it.

Whatever, he is still a lamer in my book.

-reorganizes lances for no reason
-hides and shoots lurms all match until he is the only one left
-shuts down to waste time
-comes and whines on the forums about how he was such a hero and his team betrayed him

I honestly don't really care, but I certainly would not take his side in this case.

You do not have to take my side. I am also here to understand my failures and make amends.

Here are my arguments with all honesty. I was not trying to annoy anyone, do something very silly on purpose, or play dishonestly.

- I tried to organize teams so that all clans can be in the same lances (I was separated with my clan mate: he was in Charlie, and I was in Bravo). I waited enough before someone shuffles the groups. No one did, so I took over to do that. I did make a couple of inept moves by exchanging myself by mistake with my teammate in Charlie lance and misplacing one member from a premade team into a separate team, but then I tried to move him back, the timer ran out. I admit that, and it was an honest mistake. I apologize for that. But even if I did not touch and shuffle anyone, premade teams would be left split up...

- I used PPC, MLs, and LRM. I did not hide somewhere all of the match.

- I shut down only for a few seconds before I got revealed trying to kill the rest;

- I was not "whining". Check my original post. I was wondering if I or someone else was wrong. Did I accuse anyone of something? If I am wrong, I will accept it and change my behavior.

It came to me as a shock when someone started typing my coordinates 2 or 3 times to the enemy team, then someone in the in-game chat decided to remind me how cowardly and silly I am when I actually was not trying to ruin the gameplay or run away (or hide) and avoid any fights. (This paragraph is not an accusation. It is just the reason wherefore I have created this topic).

This happened to me on a map our team would've won. Last guy hurt, powers down. They call his location, even though what would've happened is the turrets of the base could kill the remaining baddies because they're too damaged to survive a full-on assault.

We lost, thanks to them wanting to call out someone.

To summarize, then:
* Non-participation is against the ToS.
* Team Treason (calling out a team member's position) is also against the ToS.
* Powering down is not against the ToS.
* Communicating to your team mates what you're doing is not against the ToS.

Seems to me this whole thing could have been avoided by the OP telling his team what he was planning to do.

If powering down was against the ToS, they wouldn't have the button. People that call out powered down players trying to get an edge are guilty imo of team treason. They should be publicly humiliated and shamed, but allowed to keep playing. Public opinion is the best stick that exists to make people shape up.

Here's something from a similar discussion in another thread...

In the solo queue, matches cannot go on longer than 15 minutes. When you drop into a solo match, you should expect the match to go 15 minutes. That way, everyone gets to play their game the way they want to play and no one goes away disappointed. The never-say-die warriors can fight it out to the bitter end against desperate odds and enjoy themselves, and the sorry skrubs who died in the first five minutes can spectate and maybe learn something.

If you get gibbed within the first five minutes of play, don't worry about what the last hopelessly outnumbered guy on your team is doing. Don't worry about them wasting your precious time. Instead, you really need to spend that remaining 10 minutes reflecting on how you totally f*cked up and contributed to your team's embarrassing loss. Because when you get past all the "AFKs at the end are just wasting everyone's time" noise, it's your fault you're not playing at the end of the match. It's your fault your team lost. It's you who wasted your teammates' time.

Maybe that "AFK" is powering down for a few minutes to see if the enemy will fan out to find them; they might have a better chance to pick them off one at a time. Or maybe that is a real AFK, just hiding out to protect their KDR. That's lame, I agree. But don't betray them anyway. Instead, shut up, be patient, and see if the enemy finds them on their own. If they don't, you may have just found a nifty hiding spot that you can use to ambush people when the odds are stacked against you, provided some skrub who already tossed the match for you doesn't sell you out from beyond the grave.

Either way, if you watched that last player do their thing instead of betraying them so you can hurry up and get killed in the first five of your next match (thereby contributing to that embarrassing steamroll loss as well -bonus points if you come to the forums crying about your losing streak and the broken matchmaker) you might learn something and become a better player.

...So that's pretty much how I feel about that.

Edited for clarity

Take a spider with full jump jets and 1 ERLL, take 1 shot and proceed to go hide.

Hey, you did your part. You engaged, did damage, and participated as defined in the ToS. 100% legit.

I've seen this several times. In a match that's developed in to a steamroller 10-1 then hiding and powering down achieves absolutely nothing except pointlessly prolonging a game whose outcome is a certainty. If it's a much closer match with say 1 v 2 mechs remaining then being sneaky is seen as being much more acceptable.

Personally I'm not above being cunning but no matter what the odds if I'm the last remaining mech I will always fight. Several times I've taken a couple of the remaining enemy mechs with me.

Sick of seeing these threads that solve nothing. The self important will make the rules up as they go along unless PGI enforces the rules.

I don't know how many threads about team treason have gone down her the past years but its a f-ton no doubt.

This is no longer about how the rules are interpreted or who is right or wrong but instead its about PGI treating the balance of the player population like mushrooms.

PGI does not give a s*** about gameplay. All they care about is sales while making a half assed game and forcing the players to search the internet for answers.

I know it's obvious to many what the rules are. They are very clear cut. But if PGI cannot school the morons in a timely fashion or have a DEV come on these threads to clarify who is being a moron they just make it a riot out there.

I don't blame the self important dead players anymore. We know at least 10% of any given population has socio/psychopathic tendencies so those who think they have a right to team treason and justify it will always exist.

PGI has to be responsible enough to counter it.

Cool bro. Russ is on twitter, you go tell him you don't give a ^^^^ about the rules you agreed to when you installed. I'm sure he'll find it as amusing as you do.

Wanted to add: I agree with others that dead players should only be able to speak to other dead players. That would eliminate the need for any arguments like this thread and also avoid giving any alive players unfair SA advantages.

Fair enough - you've apologized, and maybe it was all a mistaken. That happens. If I gave away your location in that match (I honestly don't remember), I also apologize. Fair is fair - nobody was exactly on "good behavior" that game. There were a lot of assumptions, mistakes, and frustrations as we can all now see.

Here's the thing: The internet is is HORRIBLE for conveying what is going through a person's mind and what their intentions are. In my experiences, almost everyone who starts rearranging lances at match start is intentionally trolling players. What usually happens then is somebody requests to be moved back in their group, they get cursed out by the guy who moved everyone around, that person curses back, and the whole game is basically wrecked from there.

Sadly, it is often ASSUMED intent that is responded too. By rearranging the lances and then shutting down at match end, you looked like a trouble-making troll, which is why people gave away your location. In retrospect, I can see how you could have been trying to help, buggered up the lances, tried to fix it, buggered it up again, and so on. I can also see how a failed shut-down ambush could have led to you simply dying.

Long story short; No, this is NOT how most games go. It took a unique set of circumstances for people to be angry enough to give away your location. I rarely, if ever, do that, except on obvious AFK's and disconnects.

Anyway, I hope this helps explain why this happened from the viewpoint of somebody else on the same team. No hard feelings, since it looks like you didn't mean to make trouble.

Or he could have communicated his intentions. Maybe he just messed up, but when somebody spends a whole minute shuffling lances around like crazy, then powers down while claiming to be "hiding with honor," it's easy to come to certain conclusions about his behavior and intentions.

But, whatever - he's apologized for his actions, I apologized if I did reveal his locations, and I think we've all seen (yet again) how crystal clear communication is needed on the internet. Otherwise, feelings get hurt, more assumptions are made, and we end up with 6-page long forum posts about the problems caused by poor communication.

Not sure how long you been playing but on Group drops it's the 2man lance, the one who often suffers the split in order to fullfill all lances.

By just taking command and moving you to your group mate, you ended doing the very same thing you wished to alleviate, in the end you was splitting the ppl from their launching groups into unknow ppl for no good reason.

Lord Perversor, I did know that. The other premade probably had one guy not from their clan in their team; thus, I messed it up.
All right. I see my mistakes now, and I shall try not to repeat them again!
Thanks, guys!

lunatic just a little rule of thumb so to speak
.NEVER move team members around without asking in group cue. people rely on the different color of their lance for quick reference
.reporting team members position to the enemy is NEVER allowed even if they are AFK or disco's especially since there is a rejoin button. now.

Powering down is a legitimate tactic to kill more people and catch one person alone by themselves. Noobs on your team will always want to give away your position. Bad dead players blame you for their own actions and their deaths.

If someone turns traitor on your team and is giving away information to get you killed, report them.

We had a match where the outcome was not in our favor. As the last 'Mech, I found a sweet spot where my LRMs could reach people below me, and people above me could not see me well. I powered down, and then 1 person in my team revealed my position. The other one called me "duh", "coward", and the other one kept shouting out my position. Eventually, the enemy came from the side, where I was more vulnerable, thanks to the coordinates.
Is that a normal behavior? Was I doing something wrong? Is Power Down button there for a reason?!

Yes it's normal.

Stop powering down like a **** and fight.
