I know C.A.S.E. is usually for ammos but was wondering if it also works with Gauss Rifle.
More than often when the Gauss is hit on my Grid Iron the explosion that follows kill me.

It contains the explosion to one body part, but the explosion still happens no matter what.

I think there might also be a bug where it doesn't even contain the explosion as expected?

I remeber that they fixed the Case Guass interaction and yes - now Case leads gauss explosions away from the CT. That still means, when you use an Xl you die, because the gauss still takes your sidetorso.

Case just prevents excess ammo/gauss explosion damage from transferring to the CT. But the location where it explodes still takes the full damage. So case is useless with an IS XL engine.

However clan mechs have case built-in to every location for free, including their arms/legs. So a clan mech with a gauss rifle in its arm that explodes wont transfer damage to its side torso. Clan mechs also benefit from case in their side torsos since a single side torso destruction wont destroy a clan mech.

So case benefits clan mechs the most.

It was definitely bugged and damage transfer still happened with the rifle but don't know if they fixed it. I have a slightly dated screenie showing internal damage transfer (with external still intact) from a gauss popping.

Fixed from when I tested two days ago.

Clam arm CASE, in this case.

It does contain the explosion.

But IS mechs using Gauss in the arm, will still take massive internal crit on the adjacent torso because you can't stick CASE in that arm, and using Gauss in an XL occupied torso is a death sentence.

Clan mechs have a pretty significant advantage to using GAUSS anywhere they want, because of full body CASE, they never get adjacent critical damages, only the section that contained the Gauss will be destroyed once the Gauss explodes.

IMO, if you can put Gauss + CASE in a torso, it should contain or vent the explosion for 1/3 of normal gauss explosion damage, that is how I would do it anyway.
Ammo would autoeject from the section with CASE as well with 0 internal damage if it were up to me.

Case only works on mechs with std engines . It would only work if the weapon is in the side.

If you run your grid with a std and a case in the same side it will still blow out your side but will stop the damage transfer to your ct.

Another way to help is to put as much gauss ammo in the same place as the weapon for a crit buffer.

I guess everyone must be running the same XL build... I think I'll stick to it and just be more careful.

this. you wanna put as much gauss ammo as you can in the same location as the rifle. because gauss ammo doesnt explode and can absorb critical hits that would otherwise explode the gauss rifle.

also arm actuators can buffer crits as well. which makes arms the best location for gauss on clan mechs.

Gonna necro this thread, because I don't want to make a new one. Does C.A.S.E. currently stop GR explosion from spreading to CT?
Tried to google it, but every damn discussion (like this one too) switches to "Don't use it with XL" after a few posts, and most people forget what the original question was. I've had a long break, so I'm out of the loop. Please indulge me Posted Image

Mcgral18 answered your question above based on his testing.

BTW, Clan 'Mechs which can put GRs on the arms are the best, such as the Mad Cat Mk. II Posted Image

Sadly C.A.S.E. with an IS-XL engine with a Gauss Rifle explosion in a torso is more or less a waste of 1/2t and one crit space. As when you take three engine hits, you go down. In TT (Table Top) it was still useful, as the Mech could still be salvaged so long as the CT was not totally destroyed.

It's not that sad for IS because CASE still has limited uses, such as on this: MAL-1P

Yep. I'm building the Mauler too. Trying to build the IS version of my 2xPPC 2xGauss DW. Having a hard time doing it, I really miss those 10tons :) However, CASE is a must , since those rifles really go out with a bang...I just hope that CASE it really vents the explosion.

Wow that is hilarious. Almost like automated thread response. In my experience running my ebj with Gauss in right st, case helps(which makes CLAM OP rofl) but still experience damage in CT when my St pops. IS can't really speak for as I don't run any Gauss builds.

It's actually possible if you don't mind it going as slow as your DW: MAL-1P

Good example of a smart use of CASE. Even with the maximal crit-buffering from the half-ton Gauss ammo bins, the rifle can still be hit, and comes increasingly likely to as you spend ammo. With CASE you'll remain in the fight at least with at least another guass rifle and possibie 2xLL on top of that.

I take a similar approach in my SHD-GD which I occasionally run in Faction Play.

Is there a reason for using 1/2 ammos instead of full? I thought the 1/2 was only for when the last full don't have enough place to fit so you pack with 1/2.
