I'm not declaring whether I want or don't want this mechanic to remain, but what I do think is that it would be funny to remove it for the SINGLE purpose of trolling Graven and nothing else.

As I understand the OP, he's asking for a nerf to Gauss critting? I really don't think that's needed.

1) With the recent nerfs, Gauss isn't used frequently now. It's become a specialist's weapon, and I rarely see it in-game. I've counted three, dual-Gauss Mechs in-game last week. That was at the end of several hours of play too.

2) There's plenty of examples in the books where Gauss Mechs one-shotted other Mechs through their cockpit. Given the amount of Lore that's been stripped away from this game already, I'd like to keep the Gauss-to-the-cockpit one-shot. It's kind of a classic BattleTech death. Shoot, if I recall correctly, that's how Peter Steiner-Davion finished off Nondi Steiner on Tharkad.

3) If you stand still long enough to let someone dual-Gauss you to the face, then you kind of asked for it. Stupidity on some pilots' parts does not necessitate a game-wide nerf for everyone else.

My experience with insta-gibbing has been that it doesn't normally happen in 1v1 or even 1v2. It happens when you have several Mechs focusing on you. To that end, nerfing the crit mechanics doesn't strike me as being particularly effective at reducing insta-gibbing.

Frankly, I'd advise that everyone sits tight and waits to see what PGI has in store for us with the Power Draw mechanic. That's either going to fix everything or break everything. No sense in trying to fine-tune crits until we see what Power Draw does to the game.

...As for AC/35s, they really aren't that dangerous. For Mech's Sake, have some situational awareness and mobility. The same folks that stand still and allow other pilots to cockpit them are the same ones that let others arty them. *Facepalm*

and yet, for all those factors...how often does it happen?

I Imagine you must have a whole library of Headshot screencaps to show us the truth of this plague?

If so, by all means, feel free. I have somewhere north of 20k matches. And yes, even when Gauss was even easier to use, did team drop against comp teams like LORDs (back when that meant something), etc, and I can't recall 5 times I dies to an instant headshot. Heck I can't recall a dozen total head kills, period.

So unless I'm leading an exceptionally charmed life, you are complaining (still, since this thread is near a year old) about something that rarely EVER happens.

Bloody hell, want to reduce the damage on AC20s too, so my BoomJager can't headshot ya? Or increase the beam durations on MPLs, so my AC20/2xMPL YLW can't do it anymore?

So, you'd allow one shots from EVERY OTHER weapon in the game OTHER THAN gauss, with all it's already over the top nerfs?

Yeesh, kind of specific hatred of gauss there, eh?

Yet again, you don't seem to be reading. Also, note the date. I still think it would be a good idea for balance, but it's not like PP FLD is never not going to be the most efficient way to Crit things.

I do have a handful of videos, one against the infamous Villz. Oh, that was sweet. Fresh, 18 armour Whale instantly brought down.
PeaceDove has since been nerfed for Gauss (20%=>10% cooldown)


They are hard to get, yes. But, much like the old Strikes, I don't like the RNGeesus instagib.
You want to put 33 damage on my face manually? Feel free. But you let RNGeesus fondly my face?
I don't take kindly to that.

Yeah, really... While I get the sentiment behind this, and I fully understand McGral's pint, this is just so damned rare it's not a problem.

(Note: I'd laugh SO DAMNED HARD if this ended up happening in the tournament finals)

I'm nowhere near Bishop's 20k matches, with just 8k or so myself... And I'd say I've been headshot killed maybe, and I'm being very generous here, a dozen times. That's including artillery, and regular fire as well, not just dual Gauss and/or oneshots.

Death via headshot, for me at least, is so rare that it's a very stand out occurrence that ends with my congratulating the guy who did it and laughing about it.

This is a non-problem, that doesn't need fixing. In the big list of "Things that need to be worked on in MWO" (and yeah, it's a big list) this is so far down that it'd never be seen.

This is, at best, an amusing curiosity.


With that said, I'd support changing it solely to troll Graven, as per Fup above.

I joined in 2011, and can only recall about 3 or 4 headshot kills from Gauss since i started playing the game. I've only been headshot about 6 or 7 times total, and that includes from lasers and such. Hardly a plague!

He's definitely just whining. This thread needs to be one-shotted over to Jettisoned, lol.

I've got over 13k matches, and I've died to a headshot less than a dozen times. I've landed maybe four insta-kill headshots during fights (not AFK or in heat shutdown). Against moving targets or past point blank range it's just pure luck.

way back when we had jumbo cockpits like early on in CB, I could see people getting a lot saltier, and feel it was somewhat justified (pulled 3 headshot kills in one match with YLW, but since one was a Cataphract, another a Catapult, with their OLD Head Hitboxes.... not super brag worthy.....) but even then it seemed to happen so rarely (even though Centies have a decent size head hitbox, and my K2 sure did) that it wasn't anything I ever recall finding noteworthy enough to get upset about it.

Heck, Didn't even get one shot in my glowing red eye Atlas. (which probably WAS luck... though probably also because I started moving instantly on every map, even the old headshot factory of Forest Colony, where one shotting Atlas eyes was apparently a big thing.

Personally I feel PGI should INCREASE the size of the cockpit hitboxes.

I've been playing pretty regularly since closed beta, and I only have like 180 headshots to my name, most of them airstrikes finishing off a cockpit that was already down to internals.

Headshots are so freaking rare in this game, and damn near impossible to intentionally get against any players that are not 100% total noobs, that PGI either needs to increase the size of the hitboxes, or remove them entirely, along with removing the stupid achievements like Guillotine that would take a normal player an entire lifetime to achieve.

It's a first person shooter. Cockpit/headshots SHOULD at least be "feasible," and not just wasted damage.
It's in TT.
It's in the lore.
It's been in every other MW game.

Seriously, if anybody thinks headshots are an issue in this game, they need to actually TRY to get Guillotine. I absolutely guarantee that you will quickly realize how stupidly hard and next to impossible most cockpit shots are in this game.
