Eh, I'm one of those folks excited about Star Citizen... but its more 'cautious' optimism. The funding effort over there is for development, as the game will not be apparently any type of 'f2p' thing, but a premium type game once its done. The funding efforts of both these games are definitely different.
I haven't put any money down on SC personally since I'm more interested in the Single-Player game (when that's done), which is advertised by Chris to be a return to the storytelling/space-sim combo like Wing Commander, but with the optional dynamic universe like Privateer with multiplayer. The other aspect that interests me is supposedly being able to create private dedicated servers when the full the game is released - meaning a server host can tweak settings, force difficulty options (like first person only), add mods, make players start out with the same ships (or have access to any of them, etc.).
One of the few positive aspects left I can think of being a retired founder from MWO, is being very wary of crowdfunded games these days and actually researching who is making it and what the end product is supposed to be like. I had hoped for some sort of grand MW5 game, with tons of options, without even knowing it was going to be the "f2p"-grind-variety which annoy me to high-heaven these days.
