There are titles that you can show off in game as well as in your forum profile.

That is true, but it's not quite what I meant. You can show off Title A which comes with Achievement 1, but not all the Achievements have titles and you can't show people a page of your achievements. Also you can only show off one at a time and, like a lot of things around here...., it's not always apparent to newcomers either how to get them, how to set them, or what they relate to.

While I may not agree with the content, the idea is firm. the game definitely needs more achievements, and I'd rather they not just tack them on. So the game needs more game, and then more tiers and platforms for excelling and then rewards.

Call of Duty: Black Ops had an interesting mini-achievement system: Merc Contracts. If I remember correctly, you had to use in-game currency to buy a contract for some particular small set of events (headshots, explosive kills, x kills with a particular weapon etc.). Each one had a short-term timer (some were # of matches, others were # of minutes) and you had until the contract expired to make the small achievement. Succeed and you got a minor payout of in-game currency. Fail and you lost the money used to buy the contract in the first place.

It wasn't grand, but it did lead to some short-term streaks of non-meta play, even if only temporarily. It also felt a little like I was actually accepting a challenge that was within grasp in the next 4, 8, 12 or 24 hours (not 10,000 assists).

the problem isn't that there's not enough achievements - the problem is that each chassis should be able to unlock their own achievements instead of having 1 set of achievements for all of your mechs

i'v played close to 6000 games and i havn't unlocked an achievement since a month or 2 after they were introduced

That sounds nice. In MWO it could be simple daily contracts such as killing an IS/Clan/Light/Assault mech and the payout could be something like 100K C-Bills.
