Cicada: Not too bad. Actually, it's probably the only one that I'd say was done somewhat well out of the bunch.
Centurion Update: Drastic improvement . . . however the dinky barrels are still pretty pathetic, honestly. Still, I suppose it's something. Seriously, can't we just get the old arm back, with some udates?
Dragon: Not bad, however the missile tubes seem like a cop-out over doing real dynamic geometry. I think a big opportunity for fixing the snout was missed.
Awesome: What-the-hell is this CRAP!?! That's a terrible cop-out. The missile tubes aren't bad, but everything else . . . just . . . why? They're so dinky, tiny, and pathetic looking. What is making this thing weigh 80 tons? It's certainly not the mass of the weapon systems, looking at how they display on the mech. Those dinky little PPC-nipples look like small lasers with a camera lens.
Commando: My poor, poor little Commando. You could have done awesome things with this mech, made the torso missile tubes like the Panther's, or actually fan them out in a fashion similar to what it had . . . instead . . . it gets missile tube Popeye chest hair?!? It doesn't even mesh with the mech, it just looks shoddily thrown on there. The arm hardpoints aren't much better . . . they're just tacked on generic crap that doesn't even mesh with the mech geometry. You could have taken one from the Kintaro (one that actually has good dynamic geometry), and made the Commando incredible. Instead you give us cheaply thrown together generic cop-out crap.
Honestly, this is pretty pathetic looking, overall. Why? Who in their right mind thought this utter crap looked good? I don't think I'll be driving my Commandos ever again.
New mechs with their dynamic geometry aren't bad looking, and I'd say many are pretty well done. However, all the older mechs that have received an "update" just look like crap, now. The only exception to this is the Atlas. That actually turned out pretty nice. However, instead of throwing craptastic generic geometry onto the mech and calling it a day, the artists had actually taken the time to make the dynamic weapons look unique, and good, by using the art assets the mech had started with.
If you needed to go back and just flat-out redo the mechs, then tell us that's what you need to do, and have Alex start from scratch on reconcepting them and building the mechs out. I'd rather have waited a good long time on getting proper dynamic geometry for these mechs, by seeing them completely rebuilt, then having this crap thrown in our face. It's pathetic.
I'm thoroughly disappointed. I don't think my Commandos will ever be leaving the garage again (unless the Death's Knell isn't completely mangled . . . I might drive that); and I'm very happy that I never invested heavily into Awesomes or Dragons.
The rest of the patch better be frigging amazing . . . because this facet sucks.
