Don't get me wrong. It's awesome that it happened. It just makes me sad whenever I look at a Commando or Dragon. Especially if either of them has a CT Missile rack, or in the case of the Dragon, ANY Empty Hardpoints, because those unsightly "empty hardpoint" black ports just ruin the aesthetics of a weapon that is supposedly designed and built to it's configuration. In BT Lore, Mechs did NOT have interchangeable LEGO parts that they could swap out willy nilly. Omni Tech Did, but they had restrictions like locked hardware. But Battlemechs had a specific Template, and everything was mounted to fit. You didn't have empty ports. But, it is what it is.

Good luck to anyone that buys into this..... event. But this Whale is done. Just not enough blubber left to keep burning on the pyre.

That is not completely true. There are plenty of instances where a mech had its weapons load changed out, either because of pilot choice, or necessity because the "stock" weapon was not available, so the mech was modified to carry the available weaponry.

To use a totally canon example, Yen Lo Wang was a CN9-A which was first modified in the "Warrior Trilogy" books to carry an AC-20 in the place of its stock AC-10 and LRMS. Yen Lo Wang was further modified during the "Blood of Kerensky Trilogy" to have Endo Steel, MASC, and a Gauss Rifle. Granted, these changes required a major mech bay to do, but the original mods to Yen Lo Wang were performed in a Mech garage on Solaris. The Endo/MASC/Gauss mod was done in the Mech bays on Outreach.

Omni Tech DID make it easy to change out modules in the field, but ALL mechs could be modified.

Even Phoenix Hawks Inception let you change your Mech's loadout at the Mech'it lube. And the first Mercs? Fuggedaboutit! You want a Dragon with JJ? Done deal.

kinda upset that I worked hard on the last Hero event trying to get a Warhorn and placed 23rd in the IV-FOUR standings, which in this event would have gotten me one. Doesnt seem fair to me.

Totally agreed. Im mean, THUNDER (ballistics), BOLT (PPC etc). Its totally legal PGI, to add varity. Follow the lore as much as possible, but c'mon... I hoped kinda for an dual AC 10 or AC 20 option for this... Top Dog.

Yep. Top Dog is nothing more than a recolored TDR-5SS really. Very disappointing.

Shame your the only one around here with his head on half way straight. Silly lore fan, we can't have nice things becuase then why would you need to buy 12 different varriants of the same chasis? Put the loadout you want on the mech you bought instead of having to buy a new mech with fixed hardpoints that only exists to encourage people to spend more money on a free game. Stupid **** like this is why I frequently feel the need to tell PGI, their moderators and anyone who supports their ignorat asses to choke on a bag of {Richard Cameron}. Good thing they moderate our thoughts around here because they sure as hell don't want anyone to know what we realy think.

If these mechs were actually good this would be a fun and interesting event because I think most would buy and play. The rewards are fairly decent as well. Unfortunately, these 2 chassis have some of the best (best quirked) variants for their weight class already, so it is disappointing to get 2 new mechs that are beat out in every way by mechs that already are out for c-bills by a long shot. A c-bill boost is nice, but when you can get more damage/kills/assists/etc. in a different variant, that c-bill boost doesn't even make up for the difference. Sad because I was hoping the 5S-T would be replacing the 5SS as my main mech. Let me know when the hot fix is out giving the top dog some energy quirks.

It has one, +5% Energy Range. I run mine with an LPL in the Arm and 8 SPLs. good heat efficiency, and it's got the armor to close. About the only thing i ever have big problems with are Dire Wolves.. but then those whales can mow through most things short of another Dire wolf or a King Crab anyways.

It utterly murders anything below its weight class in short order. probably my fave kill thusfar was a Grid Iron who i believe wet himself when i showed up beside him on alpine and proceeded to disassemble him torso by torso, while the six gauss rounds he shot into me pretty much just got soaked by armor. good times.

I'm going to guess you have never played a 5SS with 7MPL, have you? Its almost identical to the build you posted, 42 alpha vs 43 of your build, almost identical heat eff (not counting any quirks), except the 50% boosted MPL get about 3x the range of your SPL, the 15% heat gen makes it 15% more heat efficient, and the 15% weapon cooldown brings the DPS just shy of the top dog. Though because its more heat eff it can actually dish out more dmg over time.
You do get some armor quirks but what use are those armor quirks when your max range with module on your SPL is 253M, where the 5SS has 704M? I guess you have 1 LPL but you're only dishing out 11 dmg with that and I will bet you're taking in way more than that. Lets not forget 5SS gets L/R torso structure quirks too so its not like the top dog has THAT much more armor.
Anyway, try the 5SS, you will be blown away how much better it is.

First off it is not just a nice gesture. Its a sale. Sales are designed to sell things and make a profit. Perhaps Canadia is a magical land devoid of true Capitalists, but market research might go a long way in determining which mechs will/wont make money. I even happen to like both mech varriants, but add to the equation a quirk list that is worse than every other chasis in an attempt not to incite the p2w cries and you get a rather lame rollout for another couple of hero mechs. Considering PGI will probably try to sell a hero varriant of every single mech they make, it gets a little hard to get excited about spending money on a mech that wont even be as good as the ones I can buy for free... Just sounds like another poorly planned sale... Wonder where anyone could have gotten that idea? I even like a lot of the events/sale things they've done recently, but it feels like we've been dazzled by some fancy PR firm over the last few months and now we're being handed back over to the same old bs mech sales department thats been cranking out the mechs, but couldn't fix the game to save their lives... Perhaps putting sales on the back burner for a few months and focusing on fixing the game would go a long way to expanding the player base, but what do I know.

Yeah Sorry but with No quirks to compare it with the Ones I already own (All of them T-Bolts) I dont see why Id spend the money on it. and as mentioned The Piant Job sucks. Im really wondering where some of thse paint schems come from. These are Killing Machines..and Heros should be even more so...The pattern on the Top Dog nad the Quarentine are garbage plain and simple. How about something Mean looking that is gonna chew your face off? and No you dont have to go Insane with the Quirks But with no Jump Jets..and such...and Nothing really advantageous except some of the Nice hard points..I cant see Paying for it.

Im a Loyal Supporter but hell I dont even know what the Resitance II War horn sounds like..Yet they want me to Buy it ..too! .Nopes. Ill wait till Ican Win it or get it waay cheap.

Okay this PUPPY was interested in the TOP DOG....but...now I feel MEHHH about it.

Could have worked more on the ARTWORK instead of using a Mountain Camo....the HELL SLINGER for example has an excellent Camo Pattern.

This monster truck looks awesome....please take note.

A built in WARHORN...THAT GROWLS AND BARKS would have made the mech worth buying IMO.
Heck...Have that WARHORN play a portion of the song, "HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW"

https://youtu.be/fC5Yf9rmKto

on a side note I am still pushing for a 16 WEAPON ATLAS MECH

I'm still wondering why PGI hasn't taken the bait and released the Piranha. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Piranha
It would have all of the light pilots ROFLing and they can do whatever event they see fit due to the name. As for this event...I'm currently sitting at #11 Quarantine and I think I'll stay there. I value the warhorn more than another empty mechbay or a mech I will never use.

Hmm...nowhere does it say that the rewards are cumulative. Either way, grinding for a mechbay when I already have 15 sitting empty from the last 50% sale...not worth it.
