The Onion IIC will have 42.5 tons of equipment with a Clan XL300, Endo, and FF. If you use a bigger engine, of course you get less dakka but you get more maneuverability (and you'll still have plenty of firepower anyways).
With a XL325 you'll have 39 tons to spend, and with a XL350 you'll have 36 tons.

The problem isn't the free tonnage, that part is great, the problem is the ****** hard points they both have.
All over the place and no variant truly focuses 1 type of weapon.

Well, that's the price of having fully opened up Battlemech customization.
Even then, you can still get by if you try to build around it... You can for example use Gauss in the Highlander's RA, and put 3 Clan LPL in the LT, with 12 extra DHS to keep them pretty cool (53% heat efficiency in Smurfy terms). Not exactly sword-and-board hardpoints but still viable.
The Onion IIC 4th variant can do 2 Gauss in the RT and have a Clan MPL in each arm, but that might be sorta fragile.

Sure I agree, but this package wont buy itself on "maybe this will work".

On the page it says STD engines
It's clan tech; not being able to swap the engines
Or did I miss something?

Well you could wait and use them instead of posting a baseless pronouncement? They may indeed be terrible, or could be amazing versions of those chassis. Point is, we won't know until they're released.

Who cares if they don't focus one type of weapon? It's trivial to use 2-3 types of weapons effectively, after all.
The HGN, for example, can run things like 2LPL, Gauss, a(L/S)RM's. That's not bad.

You're making the assumption that there are only two types of mechs:
-IS Mechs
-Clan Mechs
This assumption is wrong. There are actually FOUR types of mechs:
-IS Battlemechs
-IS Omnimechs
-Clan Battlemechs
-Clan Omnimechs
Right now, we have IS Battlemechs and Clan Omnimechs. The Origins IIC pack contains our first Clan Battlemechs.

If you can't turn 42 tons of equipment into an asskicker on a chassis that can jump - and might even jump well, come the 7th - then I don't know what to tell you. No you can't quintuple-AC/20, but I see several Highlander variants that will be positively disgusting. One of them comes with dual cUAC/10 in a single arm. I am highly considering piloting the Gehenna out of it if I go in for this pack, and normally I hate assault 'Mechs.

Russ has been on record - as of now, anyways - as stating that Clan BattleMechs will work on the same construction rules as IS BattleMechs. I.e. anything-goes full factory refits.

Each of those chassis are magnitudes better than their InnerSphere counterparts.

The problem I have is the pics.
The Orion IIC looks wider than the IS Orion. It looks like that later Mech Perseus, I had the minis for the IS Orion and Perseus, the Perseus was frickin' huge.
The Highlander, just look at the size of that honking gun arm and then there are Assault Jump Jets that might be fixed next month.

Indeed thus customizable.
Though I do not see much needing done on the Jenner.
The Hunchback is a challenge having 2 blinders on to the IS Hunchback 1.
