Because e-peen comparisons, probably. I wouldn't want it visible*. Not for my own sake, mind you, but because I imagine that sort of information could be used for less than savoury purposes:
  • Discounting people's opinions because their KDR doesn't pass some arbitrary threshold.
  • Telling people they aren't qualified to comment on mechs because they suck in them, or don't own them.
  • Claiming X mech isn't overpowered, only to have it discovered that your KDR in it is significantly higher than in other mechs.
  • Being ridiculed for piloting 'FOTM' mechs only.
  • Being ridiculed for piloting known missile boats.
  • Being excluded from units based on your stats.
  • Getting hackusations if your KDR is particularly high.
Or, worse than most...

People considering your opinion to have more weight because you have a high KDR.

There are already some pretty spectacular trolls getting about on the forums - imagine arming them with statistics to twist to their own vile agendas.

* having said all this, i'd love to be able to get my hands on everyone's stats... in the name of SCIENCE of course.

With visible stats the e-peen measuring would be off the charts.

You can go to mechstats and see player stats there. However only a very small portion of the community has uploaded their stats to that site.

Showing off stats for everyone to see would surely be misused and violated by the most devious and cruel net trolls all around.

"Says you, with your sub-3.0 KDR. What do you know?"

Like that, you mean? Yeah.

Eh, waitaminute... Did I just self-proclaim as a "most devious and cruel net troll"? Bummer :)

I have also started sharing my stats on mechstats.com, although after a cursory glance it appears there are only about 60 pilots with games played in the last 90 days, and less than 300 with stats shared at all.

Well, I almost have all of Kiiyor's list covered...
Bring it on 1ntern3t Tr011zzz!!! U cant handle my .46 overall KDR!!
Mostly due to those 850 matches in a KFX with .22 KDR, which I am totaaallly qualified to comment on how easy that god arm falls off!!
Also watch me pilot that TOOOOOOOOTTAAAAAAALLLLY NON-OP LRMBAOT HBK-4J (which I can only barely manage to get close to a 1.0 KDR with)! (tag included!)
...Also anyone have room in their unit 4 me since I will get booted soon!?!! K THX!! :P

ok thanks to all who answered friendly to my question.
the reason i asked was if possible i rewrite my 1 click signature generator and make it public for all players.
but with login data needed, that make no sense.

to the ppl with the e-peen answers, im a girl :P

Things like k/d and w/l work, but pretty much all the weapon statistics are entirely broken.

Most of the forum warriors' newbness would be exposed if stats were visible. I think I saw one in particular recently post about being 500 Wins or Deaths under .500, yet it constantly posts know-it-all info.

There's a lot of this happening here. People with 1.0KDRs giving tons of advice, balance suggestions from people who can't even aim straight...

Thank god I'm 200 wins over .500 so I can continue to post know-it-all info.

Edit: And my KDR is over 1.0! I can contine giving tons of advice, balance suggestions. Hell, I might even be able to aim straight!

That one is successful does not imply that one has good understanding - only that he is successful.

This isn't real life. To be successful in MWO relies on you understanding the game. It's why when all of the aimbotters were banned none of them were notable players. They obviously had perfect aim, but were terrible at the game and performed poorly regardless.
