MWO as we all know, is a piloting simulation game, where we get to drive large stompy machines (refuse to call them robots, a mech is not a robot dammit!). In the table top game where this all comes from, there are several factors that could harm your pilot, which could be just as dangerous as 50 gauss rifles hitting your CT. Being a simulation game, it would bring a new layer of depth to the game if tiny pilot inside our large stompy machine could also take damage from certain sitiations such as:
  • overheating of the mech for too long (heat stroke) - also effectively reducing the alpha strike everything until is dead, by harming not only your machine but ur pilot as well.
  • shots to the cockpit
  • falling down (if it ever returns)
I beleive that in this way a new layer of of immersion could be added by reminding us, "HEY! It's not only this giant metal thingy im in, im inside of it, i have to watch out for myself!"

its an intresting idea, a pilot condition layer would be a pretty cool addition to the game not only for emerision factors but also adding new layers of skill to the game. i would suggest you flesh out the idea a little more and put up a vote on the features suggestion fourm :)

While i would love to see psr's added to this game, I don't trust PGI to not over do it, then nerf it to oblivion, then try to fix it with a rebalance pass at a future date.

i think that if you get headshotted in cw, you should be perma-dead even if you have mechs left.

hostile environments should kill the player if life support is critted. for example on manifold or terra therma. some environments would kill the player faster than others. possibly giving them time to make their last minute or two of life count, like doing a suicide run.

let the pilot drinks a glass of brandy to celebrate each enemy mech destroyed and so the more you kill, the more erratic your mech moves
if you accidentally kill a teammate you being saddened drink 2 glasses at once

I think it would promote more skilled play. Players would need to be better with their heat management and if knockdowns came back then that would promote better movement skills.

Anything that reminds me that i'm a guy in a huge walker, not a guy in a suit is a welcome addition for me.

Best I have seen in a long time among alot of great ideas.

Mechwarrior needs to add a pilot character everyone knows, but this additon to the sim is an excellent idea.

I would agree. But too often the self proclaimed Church of Skill players cry against anything that adds actual tangible skill to the game. You sir, are a bit of an oddity in that you tend to be pretty open and reasonable.

In TT the pilot never took damage from heat, regardless of the heat level of the mech ... UNLESS the life support system was critted out.

I would rather see ALL heat effects available in the TT game be implemented here.

There are so many things that could be done.

If arm actuators are hit it makes the response of weapons in that arm sporadic/ slow to converge.
If a shoulder actuator is hit it freezes the arm in the position it was at the moment it was hit.
If a leg actuator is hit your movement is reduced and your cockpit jerks a bit (and the faster you go the worse it gets)
If a hip is hit you take a massive speed reduction (like half).
If a gyro is hit your mech wobbles/jerks a bit as you move (and upon landing from a jump) and you get recoil effects when you fire ballistic (and maybe missiles).
If an engine is hit you get a small increased heat buildup.
If an engine is hit twice you get a large increased heat buildup.
Side torso engine crits should be destructible.
Your speed should be reduced when you get to a certain heat threshold.
Your HUD should stark flaking out a bit as you get hotter still.
You should suffer possible ammo explosions if you keep pushing it yet further.
You should have possible engine shutdowns high up on the scale before the hard shutdown at max limit (which is what the override SHOULD be used for ... and the shutdown at the top of the heat scale CAN'T be overridden).

I wouldn't mind seeing a single one implemented on a patch and then go for a week or two to see how it does and get feedback and tweak as needed and when it looks good implement the next. Etc.

Right now this game doesn't FEEL like a mech sim, in part because there are few effects we are used to seeing from titles that are far older which did have them.

All I can think of is the resulting LBX/SRM meta. Killing as fast as possible is the name of the game, and if you add a new way to get kills faster than people will look for ways to exploit it.

No, I'd just prefer if you stop making things up about me/my team/my friends/people who you know nothing about.

Pgi likes the minimal human references since it is good for maturity ratings and penetrating more conservative markets. I do like the idea of at least having the option of bloody vision once head armor is breached.
