I can attack what you want like you do what we want. Here I go...

What you want is just fluff for numbers and fluff meaning behind mech sales that we already have.

Am I doing it right?

Hardly...the difference is the simple things I brought up would actually bring immersion with gameplay features that had a function and purpose. Like: Hey I have CB and I have to repair this mech or it can't be fielded for battle. Or hey my mechanic is only level 3 but if I get him to level 10 I can save 25% off all my future repair bills. Or hey if my unit takes this planet we get a huge discount in purchasing that mech.

Walking around a mech bay looking at a mech serves no function other than admiring the art. Which might be nice a once or twice thing but I would never consider that a gameplay feature.

Function and purpose > Fluff.

Ya the fluff crowd dont know anything. Story, features, and atmosphere, or as the trolls call it "fluff" is what will make Fallout 4 a billion during its life time. Im not making that number up, its probly fairly accurate.

In fact I would like to know what fallout 3 made including New Vegas and the 6 or 8 expansion packs. Fallout 3 had second rate combat mechanics(well maybe not second rate but its been improved none stop since fallout 3 first came out, so it needed alot of work) and no one noticed or even cared. That they have been improving it is great though.

Repair and rearm will just drive more new people away.

This is a PVE fluff thread you've voiced your stance now we will get back on topic of discussing fluff while knowing you don't care. Ok? Ok.

If you have seen the intro to the Doom 4 reveal that is how you should "suit up" in your hanger before launching match maker. While I hate Destiny it beats the spinning yellow circle that should be replaced with a short drop ship scene a la derpstiny.

I have so many ideas but should be asleep...

Anything more eye-friendly than what we have now would be nice..they got the Smurfy-style mechbay right, then went and ruined the rest of the UI. I always hated and avoided the drop-down menu version of 'Select Mech', and enjoyed seeing them lined up in the bay as actual pictures, and the ability to spin my mech and see it from other angles...now I'm forced to use the garbage drop-downs, and basically give two shits what my mech looks like anymore, because I barely ever see it myself.

Hopefully paint and camo sales drop off as a result, and they get the picture.

Basically, true.

Some part of me has a horrible feeling that this new, low TTK mode is going to stick around. E-sports people don't want a grueling brawl, or slower-paced battles where mistakes are not immediately fatal or where the prey has a chance to escape. It's all about twitch reflexes and getting the jump on the other guy and making sure he has no chance to fight back. It may be "e-sports" and "like real war," but it is miserably boring and not fun at all unless you happen to be really, really good at that crap and have nothing else to do with your life.

Sadly, if they can make more money via e-sports than the current crowd - possibly because they are running out of iconic mechs to sell for real money - than expect nothing but e-sports, short TTK, and zero effort made to make the game play more fun or appealing to new players. CoD with mech skins... and they probably never will get around to putting an ounce of Lore in the game... .Ugh!

Thats a pretty narrow perspective you have there Sir.

8. Create a "news feed" served in game via virtual TV maybe, it will give more depth to what should be a rich BT universe. Right now, I am sorry to say, this universe feels flat and one-dimensional.

Sorry if this post is a little strange, I am on damn meds. Probably should just go play :(

Cheers!

You would think that if they set a couple of artists to it, banging out cosmetic items for an improved mechbay like you describe, that they could sell them CHEAP, and sell them by the bucket load. A buck an item, have literally hundreds of items such as trophies/plaques that represent the badge system they use currently, mech parts, a spot to store images video from a players favorite battle/win, or many other things.

They could bring in the cash, without the gouge, and players could personalize their space.

Quoting myself here, but just for contentuities sake, but how many here agree with me that they could probably hire one new staffer, or re-position someone, who could pump this stuff out and easily pay for their salary and then some?

As someone said, items between $0.50 and $2 max, and I think it would crack open some wallets. Once cracked, those wallets are easier to access later.....

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. There is a lot of room for improvement. The present mechbay system is not one I enjoy interfacing with. I hate to pile on the complain-train, but it is the weakest part of this game. As a player who has invested a little bit into this game, being able to see and show off Mechs would be welcomed.

I tried Eve Online for a couple of hours. Seemed like a very steep learning curve even with its simple ship stats.

Thanks mate, Pain is worse than i would have guessed, and i had knee reconstruction and other broken bones before. All self-inflicted too :P

If i could use an MWO metaphor - the ammo in the right torso exploded causing critical damage. Lost 2 components.

HECK YES!

Texture overlays:
  • Damaged/scarred: like the misery, but with that overlay over existing colours and textures.
  • Chrome
  • Shiny
  • Matte
  • Pearlescent! Two tone!
  • Old (faded colours, paint worn away near joints)
  • Bandit/pirate: welded plates of different colours.
Decals:
  • Really, if they were priced well and relatively freeform, I can imagine forking out a lot of cash to individualize my mechs.
  • Submittable unit decals:
    • The Unit votes on it? A premium is paid to cover the cost of PGI vetting the decal.
More colours:
  • I would pay a PREMIUM to be able to select my own RGB values.
Unique mech geometry.

I know they have discussed it before, but imagine if you could select an overall 'look' for a mech, or individual components:
  • Primitive: exposed wires and ammo belts, etc.
  • Royal: pennants and flags hanging from weapon mounts, etc.
  • Prorotype: extra glowy bits and odd little bits and pieces of geometry.
  • Bandit: chains and rust, maybe a commando head on a pike.
  • Different cockpit shapes or colours.
  • Extra bits of armour plate, or customizable existing plates (imagine the blinkers on the Jager with holes added for better vision, etc)
  • Command: extra aerials, dishes and communication equipment.
  • OR - different fists/hand actuators/battle fists etc.
Different cockpit styles

(basically an expansion on cockpit items):
  • Different types of monitors, etc.
  • Ejection toggles
  • Exposed wires
  • Damaged equipment.
Unique hangars:
  • Field hangars, in different locations. Frozen, desert etc.
  • Unit hangars:
    • Imagine if a unit hangar rendered some of the mechs of online members. When they dropped into battle, they would fall through the floor like the Atlas in the teaser video. WITNESS ME
  • Hangar decorations!
    • Pennants, flags, maybe support vehicles, a bed, prefab buildings, PEOPLE WALKING AROUND, a bar, command table, piles of junk etc.
  • Different hangar styles:
    • High tech
    • Low tech
    • Space!
    • Cave
    • House barracks
    • Dropship
      • In combat/space/landed/crash landed etc
  • A city/base under attack
    • Like river city, but with more smoke and dakka, and techs feverishly working on your mech.
A customizable polaroid:
  • Pay once to unlock the polaroid, then upload your own local picture so only you can see it.
Basically, I believe that customization would be a phenomenal way for PGI to bring in the extra cash. Some of it would be easy (different animated backgrounds etc), while other stuff would likely require some pretty crazy development time and resources.

Maybe PGI could make a broad outline of mech geometry stuff that they would like to see, and free up the designers and animators to just go nuts every now and again if they ever managed to find themselves with some free time (or maybe even have a half friday thing like we have at my business, where you're allowed to work on whatever you want).

Edit, wait, was this what you were even talking about? Eh, i've been up for 40 hours now.

Also, how did you break your ribs? I once broke mine in an impromptu parkour performance. My last words were quite literally almost "HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS"

This may or may not have been what the OP had in mind but if PGI implemented these things it'd be awesome (and they'd make lots of money)

We need a personal hanger to outfit with cosmectics and to walk, see and feel your mech from both ground level.

as a thought WoT does two garages, one for premium and one for free play as a perk..

Perversely I prefer the free play grubby looking one

I think I've spent as much time watching that circle of life/death/insanity spin around more than actually playing a CW match.

That fetish along with those circles in challenges to "count" stuff is actually pretty annoying.
