Regardless, HG WILL come calling with a complaint. It's just a matter of what the results will be.
I don't think Microsoft is going to be standing by to help Catalyst, because they're getting a license from Topps, not MS. Microsoft also got sick and tired enough of the constant HG berating (from my understanding, I could be wrong) that they ended up making MechWarrior 4 and MechCommander 2 Open Source; and ostensibly mothballed the IP for the forseeable future . . . until PGI came along.
I also don't think Topps is going out of its way to send lawyers out preemptively to HG for the purposes of preventing any complaint brief being filed in court. Something is going to happen, it's just a matter of whatever Catalyst has up its sleeve will actually be enough to stop the incessant HG legal onslaught.
On the other hand, if this turns out well for Catalyst, then maybe I'll finally get a Wasp in MWO. That'd make me pretty happy.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Also remember, any mechs we get for MWO are going to be unique to MWO. They have a pretty strong tendency to bastardize any and all artworks related a mech being concepted and also add a unique MWO flair to it. Just look at non unseen/reseen mechs that have been done for MWO, like the Centurion, Commando, Dragon, Atlas, Crab, King Crab, Black Knight, Mad Cat, and pretty much every other non-Phoenix mech that's in game or concepted. They are recognizable for what they are, but they're not straight out of the TROs.
Take it for what it's worth, but even if we do get the HG unseens (I really want my Wasp, and I probably wouldn't mind a Crusader, depending on how the missiles look) they're not going to be "straight from the TRO" versions of the mechs. They'll have a PGI/MWO flair to them. Honestly, I'd be really happy with that, because I do (mostly) like the MWO aesthetics of the mechs.

This part right here. I think everyone knows that's likely to happen, it's just the degree of PGI flair/bastardization that will be the problem.
The Stinger/Wasp/Valkyrie can't really be messed with that badly due to their hardpoints. It's when we get into stuff like the Ost-Series, Phoenix Hawk, Rifleman, Crusader, Archer, Warhammer, Marauder and Longbow that things could get especially ugly.
I think most people would be most concerned with the Warhammer and Marauder. If PGI isn't extra-ordinarily careful with those two, it could very well discourage people from buying into it at all, even at the Wasp/Stinger level.
The Warhammer/Marauder are probably the two most iconic mechs in the whole BT/MW franchise. Screw those up and it likely won't be pretty.

It's a bit late, but i threw this together.
I really do feel, that the biggest problem with the current battlemaster is its cockpit.
I love most of Alex's redesigns, but i'm very disappointed that he cut-out the most iconic feature of the Battlemaster.
Very disappointed.

I don't think ANYONE likes what those guys do.
The "dynamic weapon geometry" on the vast majority of mechs looks like absolute TRASH. with squares for lasers, Xs everywhere, short, stubby AND skinny PPCs and Autocannons, mind-blowingly stupid missile placements, the list goes on.
Whoever is responsible for them, needs to get his/her **** together, already

In fact, I might just make a Warhammer build on my Hellbringer in celebration.

Battlemaster in front with i believe an Ontos Heavy Tank and Pegasus Hovertank behind. Grey Death Armor featured.
Yep. That heavy tank there is definitely an Ontos. The turret array of 8 medium lasers is a dead giveaway.
Oh, and as for the rest of that announcement... Somebody catch me, I think I'm going to faint! I'm almost afraid to get my hopes up, but I have to believe CGL would not do this if they didn't honestly believe they could tell any HG lawyers to go play in heavy traffic.

Why would the Rifleman IIC get them any more notice than the Warhammer and Marauder?
VMI designed it, for one, and it's Unseen only in that anything that was out of house designed, or remotely related to the Macross designs, were yanked.

I would THROW MY MONEY ON THEIR FACES if they gave me:
- A Phoenix Hawk
- A Warhammer
- A Marauder

Yes. Somebody did say Rifleman.
I apologize in advance.
I felt genuinely bad doing this. I don't understand how PGI can do this on a daily basis. They must be sociopaths or something. No empathy or remorse or shame.

Relatively sure, given the history of Battletech and HG, that CGL knew this going in. And thus, I highly doubt we would be seeing it at this stage if they had not already planned for that eventuality, or didn't know something we don't know. Like perhaps HG is broke after the Hasbro fiasco? (we can always hope) Or there was some finding or wording in the legalese after the last bout that CGL decided they could exploit.
