I think you might want to go look at the post I made about the possible variants and what they could do to them. There's actually a lot of great things that can happen to these mechs, especially when you look at possible hardpoints. I think some of your stigmas and nostalgia of what these mechs did in TT might be skewing you on the possibilities of these chassis in MWO. You'll notice that many of the mechs potential hardpoints are just as flexibile (if not more so . . . look at the Crusader), then you're giving them credit for in your post.
Granted, it's a few pages back already, so I'll just quote it for you:
Well thanks, sometimes I do not have the time to read through all of a topic (26 pages in a few days!) though on certain issues I try.
However just looking at a few of what you did, seems you have not looked at what has been done in game.
The Locust pretty much has done every amount of hardpoints of the type listed. Doesn't matter what location they are in, Locusts can turn fast enough to negate arm placement advantages. Engine cap is not gonna mean much since at least one JJ will be mounted resulting in a smaller engine than a 190XL or smaller weapons than Locusts pack. All Wasps & Stingers bring to the 20 ton category is a 20 ton with JJ, not a big deal. More than stock JJ makes no difference, a Panther with 8JJ seems no different than with 4JJ, tried both.
The Valkyrie OTOH brings a 30 tonner with Missiles, something the 30 tonners (Spider & UrbanMech) lack.
Phoenix Hawk, Blackjack already has all Energy and Energy & Ballisitic variants with a smaller profile and good arm weapon placement, speed will not matter when you are a bigger target.
Since you mention the Crusader, anything it can do, an existing 65 tonner can already do.
Catapult - Energy & Missile
JagerMech - Energy & Ballistic, excellent arm placement for weapons
Thunderbolt - used primarily for all Energy, 2 have shoulder mounts
The Crusaders flexibility in having all 3 weapon types is no big deal and its size is pretty darn big compared to the squat T-Bolt.
I go down the rest of the list and see what I said.
Surprised no one is asking if PGI will try doing Quads aka Scorpion & Goliath.
