The two biggest in their weight class for each side.

Which one would you pick, what do you fear the most from the other in a 1v1 or a team game?

Theory crafts away, GO!

Oh please. The Timberwolf is WAY better than the Orion. Real question is how will it compare to the Black Knight when that drops?

The Orion may have 2 additional tons of IS+A (quirks) but...I don't think it's a very threatening robot.

Doesn't pack the right hardpoints for the current game. Being able to take 1 extra hit to either ST doesn't mean very much.

No need for theory crafting. The Timbie is just hands down the better mech.

The Orion needs an XL to run anything but the smallest LRM/SRM packs and anything above Medium Lasers, but with such huge side torsos, it gets popped almost instantly.

The Orion has the agility of a bag of hammers. It may beat aTimberwolf in a brawl, Orion has some pretty brawler capable builds if you use an XL. But that's an XL... you'd want a standard to stand half a chance
Unfortunately the Orion is going to get left even further behind when the black knight drops...

The Orion has one advantage only over the timber. It is cheaper. Nothing else

Orion will be bad either way. Extremly vulnerable CT, few hardpoints, low slung arms, bad arm convergence, very little shielding capability of arms OR STs. Otherwise a Black Knight will be utterly crushed by the timber and half the clan heavies either way. IS laserboat, lol.

This is actually a mech you might as well try to throw a 40/50% quirk at and see what sticks. The torso quirks are probably the biggest joke. Can't believe a mech with such an incredibly bad CT gets ST armor quirks.

Because nomather how bad the CT is you always lose a side torso before anything else even with the quirks. It's worse than a hunchy before the quirkening. My VA however has that BOOM YOU JUST DIED alpha strike but i need to get inside 150m and 100 is ideal, and THAT'S not ideal lol.

The only instance I would take the Orion is in a close range brawl. If you build an Orion right (AC20, SRM 4 or 6, all MPL) You can get a very threatening low heat alpha. 3-4 can be delivered as fast as weapon cooldown before any overheat. I would consider this superior in the particular instance of open close range brawling against hot clan mechs. Even then, it would require a lot more finesse to pilot the Orion and protect the AC20.

this is a joke thread right? The Orion is pretty much worthless and is one of the worst mechs in the game. The Timberwolf is arguably the best mech in the game pound for pound. If that answers your question.

There seems to be some confusion about whether we're talking about the Orion or the Orion IIC. Since OP said "theory crafts away", I'm guessing he means the Orion IIC.

You can theory craft on both of them :-)

Um, the Orion IIC is better than the Orion. Full stop. Clan XL will allow for better tonnage usage than the IS version.

The Orion is totally inferior to the Timberwolf, for pretty much everything.

The Timberwolf preemptively has the edge over the Orion IIC, barring some unknown quirk that allows it to suck much less than it does right now.

Timberwolf is, by and large considered the better mech by the community.

The Orion CAN be a threatening mech, but is best used in a city enviornment utilizing a "Pocket Atlas" build. Or by attempting to outrange the Timby with Gauss/ERPPC.

Now if we were talking from a pure stock configuration, I'd say the Timby pretty much wins hands down no matter what. But a good pilot, with a good grasp of tactics, with a favorable map, could relatively easy outduel a timby.

But really, it's a matter of opinion. And the Onion is something of a fridge in size. Kinda hard to miss.
